ቀ/ qä: The 19th letter in
the Geez alphabet according to the Abugida system; its name is Qof; its number
is one hundred. When it represents a numeral, Qä (፻) is called hundred (ምእት/ məʾət). Furthermore, without abandoning its value as a
hundred, after Qʷä (ቈ) and Ḫʷä (ኈ), it becomes a numeral for 10,000, pertaining
to thousand (šiʾəḥ). This indicates its progression, such as Ḫʷä900 (ኈ፱፻), Qʷä10,000 (ቈ፲፻), and hundredhundred (እ፻፻), as it goes; observe the Abugida numerals.
ቀሓሚ/ qäḥämi: (ሚት ምያን ያት፤ ሐምት) One who picks or gathers; picker; gatherer; say
raw.
ቀሕቅሖ ሖት/ qäḥəqəḥo hot: (ቀሕቅሐ ይቀሐቅሕ ይቀሕቅሕ። ዐረ ቀሕቀሐ። ሱር ቃሕቃሕ) To crumble; to crush;
to pulverize; to call with the finger of charity; or instead of saying soandso,
to say ah or ugh; to point with the finger; to say take and bring; during
prayer or at the table. Its root and source is ቆቅሐ/ Qoqḥä; it agrees with ቈቍዐ/ Qʷäqʷä; ʿዐ/ A and ሐ/ Ḥa are inherited. “ወእመ ቦ ዘትፈቅድ በውስተ ማእድ ኢትንብብ፤ ቀሕቅሕ።” And if there is something you permit at the table, do not say it; Qäḥqəḥ.
“አልቦ ዘይትናገር፤ አላ ይቀሕቅሑ” There is no one who
does not speak; rather, they point (ሥር: ጳኩ).
ቀለም/ qäläm: Color [1]: (ማት፤ አቅላም) hue; liquid type; application
for dyeing. “ቀለመ ኀጺን።” Writing in red color and in black color. “ከመ ቀለመ ጸሓፊ።” Without color. “ጸሐፍ ስምየ በረቀ መርዓ፤ ገቢረከ ፋሲለደስ ለዘኮንኩ ኃጥአ፤ ደመከ ቀለመ ወዐፅመከ ብርዐ” Write my name in the wedding veil; your
deeds, Fasiledes, for which I was a sinner; your blood is the ink, and your
bones the pen: (አቡሻ: ፵፮። ስንክ: ታኅ፳፪። ድጓ).
[2]: (ዐረብ። ጽር ካላሞስ። ዕብ ቃኔ) Pen; ink holder; dipping device made of wood or iron; or
that which the writer carves, an open hollow reed, like a reed, etc. “ቀለመ ኀጺን።” Iron pen. “ከመ ቀለመ ጸሓፊ።” Like a writer's pen. “በማየ ሕመት ወበቀለም” With ink water and ink: (ኤር፲፯: ፩። መዝ: ፵፬። ፫ዮሐ: ፲፫).

: Learning; knowledge; obtained from books or teachers. (ሙሾ፤ የተማሪ እናት፤ ልጇን ዳግም ግራኝ ቴ ስላቃጠለባት) “ይማርልኝ ብዬ በጌ ምድር ሰድጄ፤ ቀለም ገባው አሉ እሳት ኾነ ልጄ።” I sent him to the land
of Ge so he could learn; they said he absorbed ink, my child became fire. (የተማሪ እኅት፤ ሊቅ ወንድሟ ሙቶ ሲቀበር) “ዐፈር መልሱ እንጂ ደንጊያ ለምናችኹ፤ የቀለም ቀንድ ነው ትሰብሩታላችኹ።” Return
soil, why are you asking for stones; its an ink horn, youll break it.
ቀለምጤዳ/ qälämṭedā: (ጽር ክሊማቲዳ) Grapevine wood; its
trunk, its vine; its cut, fallen, and dried branch, its twig. Those with
knowledge of herbs call it Euphorbia: (ዳን፫: ፳፪። ስንክ: ሐም፭). Instead of ቀለምጤዳ/ Kelemteda, it says አቅላሚዶ/ Aklamidon; its a mistake: (መጽ: ምስ).
ቀለምሲስ/ qälämsīs: A partial name; Abuqelemsis.
ቀለምጺጽ/ qälämṣiṣ: (ጺጸ ቀለም) ጺጽ/ Tsits comes from ጻጹት/ Tsatsut. Fire spark; splinter. Fire from the bottom of a
griddle; flash. ጺጽ/ Tsits: its fire, its
spark, its trouble; ቀለም/ Kelem: its shadow,
its pain. “ቃለ ቀለምጺጽ” Word of Kelemtsits: (ጥበ፪ ፪። ፫: ፲፱).
ቀለንቶን/ qälänton: (ጽር ካሌንዴ) Beginning; beginning
of the month; new moon. “ወበወርኀ ሮሜ ቅድመ ዕሥራ ወሰመንቱ ቀለንቶን” And in the Roman month, before the
twentyeighth Kelenton: (ተረ: ቄር፳፭).
ቀለጰ ቀልጰጰ/ qäläṭä qälṭäṭä: (ዐረ ቁለብ። ቀለበ) Bit; stung; swallowed; swallowed up; of
aquatic animals. Seized; took; tore, ripped apart; broke, scattered; of
terrestrial animals. “በህየኒ እኤዝዞ ለከይሲ ወይቀልጶሙ።” At that moment, I

easy; light; small, little. My burden is light. “ደለዎ ወኮነ ቀሊለ እምኵሉ ማያተ አፍራቅያ።” It descended and
became lighter than all the waters of Africa. “ቀሊልኑ በኀቤክሙ አስተፅብሶተ ሰብእ” Is it a light thing for you to weary men: (ማቴ፲፩: ፴። ዮሴፍ። ኢሳ፯: ፲፫).
: Fast; swift; hasty. “ደመና ቀሊል።” Light cloud. “አኮ ለቀሊላን ረዊጽ። ቀሊላት እገሪሁ።” Not for the swift is the
race. “ቀላለ ኮነት ሕይወትየ” His feet are swift. “ቀላለ ኮነት ሕይወትየ” My life has become swift:
(ኢሳ፲፱: ፩። መክ፱: ፲፩። ፪ነገ: ፪: ፲፰። ኢዮ፯: ፮).
ቀሊል ሎት/ qälīl
lot: (ቀለ ይቀልል ይቅልል። ዕብ ቃላል። ሱር ቃል። ዐረ ቀለ) To become light; to
be less; from a scale or balance. “አበሳ ዘኢይቀልል እምዝኩ።” The word fool comes from this. “አበሳ ዘኢይቀልል እምዝኩ።” Sin that is not lighter than this. “ምንት ይቀልል እምብሂ።” What is lighter than this. “ትቀልል ሲኦል እምኔሃ” Sheol is lighter than
her: (አፈ: ተ፳፯። ማቴ፱: ፭። ሢራ፳፰: ፳፩). See ቀልቀለ/ Qelqelen; its a hybrid of this. To hasten; to be swift; to
be a fast runner. “ይቀሉ እምንስር።” They are swifter than eagles. “ይቀልል ሩጸቶሙ እምነፋስ።” Their running is
swifter than the wind. “ኅሊና ይቀልል ወይሰርር እምኵሉ ክንፍ” The mind is swifter and flies beyond all
wings: (፪ነገ: ፩: ፳፫። ቀሌ። አፈ: ተ፳፪). Instead of ቀለ/ qele, it says ተቀለለ/ teqelele; its a mistake. “ይትቀለሉ እምኀጢአቶሙ።” May they be lightened from their sins. “ይትቀለሉ እምጻዕር” May they be lightened from their labor: (ሱቱ: ዕዝ፯። ኪዳ).
ቀሊም ሞት/ qälīm mot: (ቀለመ ይቀልም ይቅልም) To darken, to stain, to smear; to defile, to pollute; to immerse, to
dip in ink; to smear; to thicken; of words, of clothes. “ሀበነ ከመ ንጽሐፍ ወጸግወነ ከመ ንቅልም” Give us that we may write and help us
that we may darken: (አረጋ: ድ፩).
ቀሊስ ሶት/ qälīs sot: (ቀለሰ ይቀልስ ይቅልስ። ዕብ ቃሌስ፤ ሣቀ ተሣለቀ) To bend over; to
stoop; to become thin; to hunch over.
ቀሊብ ቦት/ qälīb bot: (ቀለበ ይቀልብ ይቅልብ። ዐረብ) To turn over; to
catch and receive by turning and focusing; to overturn, to pour out, to pile up;
to overcome, to conquer; to be superior. see ቀለጰ/ Qelepe; it is a twin of this. “ምንት የዐጽብ እምዘይቀልብ ብዙኀ አስይፍተ” What is astonishing
from that which turns over many swords: (አፈ: ተ፲፮). The word ቀለብ/ qeleb comes from both ቀለበ/ qelebe and ቀለጰ/ qelepe.
ቀሊዕ ዖት/ qäliʿ ot: (ቀልዐ ይቀልዕ ይቅላዕ። ዐረ ቀለዐ። ዕብ ቃላዕ) To strip; to uncover;
to reveal, to remove; to take off; of clothes, of curtains; of books. “ኦ ብእሲቶ ለምንት ትቀልዒ ግልባቤ ርእስኪ እንዘ ትሥሕቂ።” O woman, why do you
uncover the covering of your head while you laugh. “አዘዘ ይቅልዑ ግልባቤ ገጻ።” He ordered them to uncover the covering of his face. “አዘዘ ከመ ይቅላዕ ልብሶ።” He commanded that his garment be taken off. “ኀፍረት ቀሊዕ መጽሐፍ ለዘኢየአምር ሆህያተ” Shame on him who uncovers a book for one who does not know letters: (አፈ: ተ፲፭። ስንክ: ኅዳ፲፮። ታኅ፲። መጽ: ምስ). To hit; to strike; to
aim; to throw; of a ball, of a sling. To fling; to shoot; to throw far; of
stones, of arrows.
ቀሊው ዎት/ qäliwotot: (ቀለወ ይቀሉ ይቅሉ። ዕብ ቃላህ። ዐረ ቀላ) To roast; to fry; to
sauté; to parch; to scorch. “ቀሊወከ” Qeliweke: (መ: ፈ). Instead of ቀለወ/ qelewe, it says ቈለወ/ qolewe; ቈ/ qo is Amharic.
ቀሊድ/ qälīd: (ቀለደ። ዐረብ) To draw; to collect; water. To joke; to be a
joker. To pluck the eyebrows; to pluck and split the eyebrows; a disease of the
spleen.
ቀላሚ/ qälämi: (ሚት ምያን ያት) One who darkens; one
who stains; a smearer, a writer; an ink applier.
ቀላቂል/ qäläqīl: (ትግሬ) Lowland field; a
flat plain; the bottom of a gorge; the foot of a mountain.
ቀላዒ/ qälāʿi: (ዒት ዕያን ያት) One who uncovers; one
who takes off; a revealer, a remover. “እግዚ ለብርሃነ ልብየ ቀላዔ ግላ” God, revealer of the darkness of my heart: (ጥበ: ጠቢ).
ቀላውትሞኖስ/ qäläwətmonos: (ጽር ክላፍትሞኖስ) Weeping; lamentation. Hebrew,
however, says mulberry trees; mulberry is a silk tree: (፪ሳሙ: ፭: ፳፫). ቈላተ ብካይም/ Qolate bikayim is like this. ባካ ብካኢም/ Baka bikaim tree. ብኪ ቤኪ / Bki beki is called weeping; because of this,
they mistook it.
ቀላይ/ qälāy: (ያት) deep; profound; abyss; of the sea, of
springs. “ቀላየ ባሕር።” Deep sea. “ቀላያተ አፍላግ።” Deep springs. “ቀላያተ ማያት” Deep waters: (ኢሳ፶፩: ፲። ኢዮ፳፰: ፲፩። መዝ: ፸፮).
ቀልቀል/ qälqäl:
(ላት) Cliff; mountain; peak; mountain
range. “ርእሰ ቀልቀል።” Top of a cliff. “ከመ ዘማእከለ ቀልቀል ታንሶሱ።” From the middle of the cliff, they were carried away. “ኢትንበር ደወለ ቀልቀል ምስለ ጸላኢከ ከመ ኢያጽ ድፍከ” Do not sit at the foot of a cliff with your
enemy so that he does not push you down: (፪ዜና: ፳፭: ፲፪: ፲፪። ሢራ፱: ፲፫። መጽ: ምስ). Euphorbia; ቈለቈል/ Qoleqol comes from this; it signifies a tree of the
lowlands and slopes.
ቀልቅሎ ሎት/ qälqəlo
lot: (ቀልቀለ ይቀለቅል ይቀልቅል። ዐረብ። ዕብ ቂልቃል) To shake; to mix, to
mingle; to stir, to shake; to demolish, to destroy, to shake off; to destroy,
to spoil.
ቀልብ/ qälbə: Thought, desire; beauty,
charm; patronage, being loved, honored; being called father, father. Like ቀልባም/ qelbam (thoughtful) and ቀልበ ቢስ/ qelbe bis
(thoughtless).
ቀልይ ዮት/ qälyi
yot: (ቀለየ ይቀሊ ይቅሊ። ቀለወ) To sink, to hollow out; to be deep, profound. “ይቀሊ እምቀላየ ቀላያት ወይትሌዐል እመልዕልተ ሉዓሌ” It sinks deeper than the depths of depths and rises above
the heights of the highest: (መጽ: ምስ).
: To know deeply; to rebuke, to reprimand; to reproach, to
accuse; to judge, to testify; of the heart, of the mind. “ይቀልየከ ልብከ።” Your heart rebukes you. “ሊተሰ ፈድፋደ ያሐዝነኒ ወያቴክዘኒ ወይቀልየኒ ልብየ” Indeed, my heart greatly

ቀልደድ/ qäldäd:
Eyebrow; eyelid; the lip of the eye or its hollow, its pool; its mucous
membrane being filled as with water. “ፀይንኽ ይፍሰስ እንዲሉ።” Like may your eye flow. “ቀልደደ ዐይን” Qelded eye: (አርጋ: ፪).
ቀልድ ቀላድ/ qäldə
qälād: (ዐማርኛ) . Jester; one who throws jokes.
ቀልፎንያ/ qälfonyā:
(ሮማይ ኮሎፎንያ) Resin; like incense; fragrant, flammable;
adhesive. “ቃር ወፒሳ ወተይ ወቅጥራን ወሰብዐቱ ልጥር እምነ ቀልፎንያ” Tar, pitch, and seven
lutir from colophony: (ስንክ: ሐም፭).
ቀመራዊ/ qämärāwi:
Monthly; of the month. “ወርኅ ቀመራዊ።” Monthly month. “ኍልቍ ቀመራዊ ወፀሓያዊ” Monthly and solar calculation: (አቡሻ: ፰ና: ፴፩).
ቀመር/ qämär [1]:
(ራት፤ አቅማር) Curtain, covering; space, structure; wall,
table. “ዘሰቀሎ ለሰማይ ከመ ቀመር ዘእንበለ ዐምድ” Who stretched out the heavens like a curtain without pillars: (ቅዳ። ኢሳ፵: ፳፪).
: Section; chapter; number, calculation; number category. “አቅማር በእንተ አኅብሮ ቃላት፤ ቀመር ቀዳማዊ።” Aqmar about the joining
of words; first category. “አንቲ ውእቱ ዳግሚት ቀመር።” You are the second category. “ቀመረ ዐረብ።” Arabic category. “ዐውደ ቀመሩ ለወርኅ።” The circle of its month.
“ናሁ ኀልቀ ቀመርነ ዘተውህቦ ለአዳም ፯፻ ዓመት” Behold, our category given to Adam for 700 years is

ቀሚሕ ሖት/ qämīḥ
hot: (ቀምሐ ይቀምሕ ይቅማሕ። ሰምረ፤ ፈረየ) To produce; to be
productive; to bear fruit, to carry; to flourish; of crops, of plants. To be
plucked, to be torn.
ቀሚል ሎት/ qämīl
lot: (ቀመለ ይቀምል ይቅምል። ዕብ ቃማል፤ የብሰ መጽለወ) To examine closely; to
scrutinize; to look back and forth, to turn over. “ወይቀምላ ለምድረ ግብጽ ከመ ይቀምል ኖላዊ አልባሲሁ።” And he will examine
the land of Egypt as a shepherd examines his garments. “ወረከበቶ እንዘ ይቀምል ጸጕሮ” And he found her examining her hair: (ኤር፵፫: ፲፪። ገድ: ተክ).
ቀሚስ/ qämīl lot [1]: ቀምየሰ/ Qemiyese.

church garments, a shirt, and a mitre, and a fiqare, and a crown. “ወሶበ ፈቀደ ከመ ይልበስ ቀሚሰ፤ ይነጽር ለእመ ኮነ ነዊኀ አው ኀጺረ” And when he wants to
wear a shirt, he looks to see if it is long or short: (ዮሴፍ። ቄድር። ቅዳ).
ቀማይስ/ qämāyīs:
(ሳት) Shirts. “ለብሱ ልብሰ ኀጺን እምታሕተ ቀማይሳቲሆሙ” They wore iron armor under their
shirts: (ዮሴፍ። ገድ: አዳ).
ቀምሐ/ qäməḥa:
Qama geteme; ቀሐመ/ qehamme.
ቀምሕ/ qäməḥ: (ዐረ፤ ስንዴ። ዕብ ቄማሕ፤ ዶቄት) Fruit particle; produce; spike, cluster; bud;
what the Tuesday creation produces, each according to its name and kind. “ፍጡነ ትበልዕ ቀምሓ።” You will eat fruit quickly. “ትጸግቡ እምነ ቀምሕየ።” You will be satisfied
with my produce. “ይተክሉ ወይነ ወይበልዑ ቀምሖ” They will plant vines and eat its produce: (ሢራ፮: ፲፱። ፳፬: ፲፱። ኢሳ፷፭: ፳፩).
: Seed; plant, spice; tree, wood; all that is sown and
planted and produces. “ዐቃቢሁ ለቀምሕ ይሬኢ ፍሬሁ።” The keeper of the produce sees its fruit. “ዕፀወ ቀምሕ።” Trees of produce. “ልገተ ዐቃቤ ቀምሕ” The gift of the keeper
of produce: (ሢራ፳፯: ፮። ነሐ፱: ፳፭። ኢሳ፩: ፰).
ቀምሮ ሮት/ qämro
rot: (ቀመረ ይቄምር ይቀምር። ዕብ ቃማር፤ ሸፈነ) To prepare, to arrange; to count, to think; to
classify. To spread out, to veil; to separate, to divide; to arrange in measure
and number. “ዘዐውደ ፀሓይ ወወርኅ ከመ እንተ መጽሔት ቀመረ።” That which the circle of the sun and moon measured like a scroll. “እዴሁ ለልዑል ይቄምሮ።” The hands of the Most High arrange it.
“አኮ በዕፅ ትሰውቆን ወትቄምሮን” Not with wood do you hide and arrange
us: (መጽ: ምስ። ሢራ፵፫: ፲፪። ገድ: ላሊ).
ቀምጠራ/ qämṭärā:
(ዐረ ቀመጥር። ዕብ ቃምጣር) Box; small chest; bag;
for clothes, for money. See the meaning of ያስክሬን/ yaskeren; it is the same as this. “በእንተ አስክሬን ወቀምጠራ ዘሙዳየ ምጿት።” About yaskeren and qemtera of the treasury. “ወኮነ ሰራቄ ብሩር ዘውስተ ቀምጠራ፤ ዘአስክሬነ እግዚኡ” And he became a thief
of the silver in the qemtera; of his lords yaskeren: (ዮሐ፲፫: ፳፱። መጽ: ምስ).
ቀምጠራት ቀማጥር/ qämṭärāt qämaṭrə: Boxes; small chests. “እለ ይትፌሥሑ በብዝኀ ዕንቆሙ ክቡር ወኪያሁ ዕንቈ የዐቅቡ ውስተ ቀምጠራት ዝጊሖሙ ጽኑዐ” Those who rejoice in the abundance of their precious stones and keep
those stones in their strongly locked qemterat: (ተረ: ቄር፳፪).
ቀምጠወ/ qämṭäwe:
(ተቀ ግ) Arranged; smoothed; piled up; piled up; turning
over, cultivating, breaking and crushing its shoots and branches. The book,
however, says አቀምጠወ /
aqemtewe;
it does not seem right. “አኮኑ አቀምጢዎ ገራህቶ ሶቤሃ ይዘርዕ” Is it not that he arranged its furrows

ቀምጦ ጦት/ qämṭo

Sweetened; ቀሰመ/ qesseme.
ቀሰመ/ qäsäme [1]:
Leqeme; ቀሢም ቀሠመ/ qesim qesseme.
[2]: (ዕብ ቃሳም። ሱር ቅሳም) Divined; soothsayer; guessed, cast lots. The book,
however, says አስተቃሰመ/ asteqaseme instead of ቀሰመ/ qesseme; making the doer
into a causer; a translators mistake. “በከመ ሐሰበ ወአስተቃሰመ ለአማስኖቶሙ።” As he planned and
divined for their destruction. “አስተቃስሚ ሊተ” Divine for me: (አስቴ፱: ፳፬። ፩ነገ: ፳፰: ፰).
ቀሠፋይ/ qäsäfāy:
Outer; that which is outer. “ይፍልጥ መንጦላዕት ውሳጤ ወቀሠፋየ” He will divide the
inner and outer veil: (ዘፀ፳፮: ፴፫).
ቀሡታት/ qäṣätāt:
Qesawit; jugs. “ቀሡታተ ይጽዐን በአንበሳ።” Qesutat loaded by a lion. “ቀሣውቲሆሙ” Their qesawit: (ዘፀ፳፮: ፴፫).
ቀሡት/ qäṣät [1]:
(ዕብ ቄሤት) Ink container; inkpot; ink holder; a type of
jar and jug. Jar; jug; earthenware; water container; pottery. “ቀሡተ ጸሓፊ።” Writers qesut. “ቀሡተ ልሕኵት።” Qesut of mortar. “ስተይ ማየ እምቀሡትከ” Drink water from your

mot: (ቀሠመ ይቀሥም ይቅሥም። ቀጠፈ) To gather; to pick, to glean, to cut, to harvest; to bundle; to
collect, to gather vegetables. “በከመ ይቀሥምዎ ለዘይት ከማሁ ይቀሥምዎሙ።” As they gather oil, so they will
gather them. “ከመ ዘየአርር ድኅረ ዘይቀሥም።” Like one who gleans
after the harvester. “ቅሥም አስካሎ ለዐጸደ ወይን።” Gather the grapes of
the vineyard. “ቀሠምነ ለከ ስምዐ እመጻሕፍት” We have gathered for you news from the
books: (ኢሳ፳፬: ፲፫። ሢራ፴: ፳፭። ራእ፲፬: ፲፱። መጽ: ምስ).
ቀሲሳን ቀሳውስት/ qäsīsān qäsäwəstə: Priests; elders. “ትሢም ቀሲሳነ።” You appoint priests. “ይጸውዕ ቀሳውስተ” He calls the elders: (ቲቶ፩: ፭። ያዕ፭: ፲፬). It says priest instead of bishop; a
translators mistake. “ምስለ ቀሳውስት ወዲያቆናት” With elders and deacons: (ፊልጵ፩: ፩).
ቀሲስ/ qäsīs: (ዐረ ቀሲስ። ሱር ቃሺሻ) Priest; elder. “ቀሲስ ወዲያቆን።” Priest and deacon. “እምነ ቀሲስ” From a priest: (ቅዳ። ፪ዮሐ: ፩).
ቀሲስ ሶት/ qäsīs
sot: (ቀሰ፤ ቀሰሰ ይቀስስ ይቅስስ። ዕብ ቅሻሽ። ሱር ቃሽ) To age; to become
old; to become dirty; to be dirty; to pick up dirt; to gather, to collect. To
become a priest; to be ordained as a priest. “ምሥዋዒሆሙ በኀበ ቀሰሱ ወዛቆኑ” Their sacrifices
where they became old and decrepit: (ቀኖ: ኒቅ: ፸፱).
ቀሢጥ ጦት/ qäṣiṭ
ṭot: (ቀሠጠ ይቀሥጥ ይቅሥጥ። ዐረ ‹ ቀሸ ጠ) To steal; to lift, to raise; to steal, to
hide; to deceive, to cut off. “ቀሢጠ ንዋየ ባዕድ።” He stole the property
of another. “ዘይቀሥጥ እምቤተ እግዚ።” He who steals from the house of God. “ቀሠጡ መንፈቀ ሤጡ።” They stole half of their price. “ከመ ትቅሥጦሙ በተሳልሞ ፀሮሙ” That you may deceive them by greeting their enemies: (መቃ። ቀሌ። ግብ፭: ፪። የሴፍ).
ቀሢፍ ፎት/ qäṣif
fot: (ቀሠፈ ይቀሥፍ ይቅሥፍ፤ ቀጠፈ። ዐረ ቀጸፈ) To cut off; to chop off, to prune; to cut,
to shorten; to shorten; of plants, of crops, of children. To remove, to uncover;
to strip; to throw away naked; to flog. To flog; to beat; to hit; to punish; to
rebuke, to reprimand. “ዘይቀሥፍ ብዕራይሁ።” He who cuts off his oxen. “ይቀሥፎሙ ለአሕዛብ።” He will cut off the nations. “ቀሠፍከኒ ወተቀሠፍኩ።” You have cut me off, and I have been cut off. “እግዚኦ በመዐትከ ኢትቅሥፈኒ” O Lord, do not punish
me in your wrath: (ሢራ፴፰: ፳፭። ራእ፲፱: ፲፭። ኤር፳: ፮። መዝ: ፮። ኢሳ፲፩: ፬).
ቀሣሚ/ qäṣāmi:
(ሚት ምያን ያት፤ ሣም ሠምት) One who gathers, one
who picks; a picker, a cutter. “አድኅነኒ እምቀሣሜ ወይን አመ ያሌዕል ማዕጸዶ።” Save me from the grape gatherer when he raises his
sickle. “ሶበ ቦኡ ቀሣም ላዕሌከ” When gatherers come upon you: (ደራሲ። ዐብድ: ፭).
ቀሳሚ/ qäsāmi:
(ሚት ምያን ያት) One who sweetens, a
sweetener; a cook in the kitchen.
ቀሣጢ/ qäṣāṭ'i:
(ጢት ጥያን ያት፤ ሠጥ) thief, one who cuts off; deceiver. “ሰራቂ ወቀሣጢ ዘአንበሩ ብየ” A thief and deceiver who set against me: (አዋል).
ቀሣፊ/ qäṣāfi:
(ፊት ፍያን ያት) One who whips; a
whipper; a punisher. “ኀበ ቀሣፌሁ” To his whipper: (ኢሳ፱: ፲፱).
ቀስ/ qäs [1]: Priest; ቀሲስ ቀሰ/ qesis qese.
[2]: (ትግ ቀሽ) This also; priest. “አባ ገሪማ ቀስ ዘመደራ።” Aba Gerima qes of
Medera. “ወይቤልዎ ቀስ ወመኳንንት ለአባ ሊባኖስ።” And the priests and nobles said to Aba Libanos. “ለእመ ሰረቀ አክሊሮስ ዘውእቱ ቀይሰ ገበዝ ንዋያተ ምሥዋዕ” If Akliros, who is a
qeyis, the treasurer, stole the altar vessels: (መዋሥ። ፈ: መ: ፲፯: ፮).
ቀሥም/ qäsəm: (ብ አቅሣም) Harvest of plants,
crops; the time when fruits are gathered; months of gathering and cutting. “የኀብር ቀሥም ምስለ ማእረር” Harvest time together with the reaper: (ዓሞ፱: ፲፫። ዘሌ፳፮: ፭። መሳ፰: ፪).
: Fruit; bud; grape; that which has been gathered and cut. “በመዋዕለ ማእረረ ቀሥም።” In the days of the
reapers harvest. “አቅሣመ ዐጸድ።” Harvests of gardens. “ይሴፈዉ ቀሥሞ” They measure its harvest:
(ሢራ፳፬: ፳፯። ሥር ጳኵ። ማር: ይሥ፲፭: ፩).
ቀስም/ qäsəm: (ማት) Divination; sorcery; chance, guess; trick; false
prophecy. The book, however, says መቅስም መቅሰም መቃስም/ meqsim, meqsem, meqasim instead of “ቀስም” qesim; all are mistakes; it doesnt seem right. “ሰብአ መቅስም።” People of divination.
“በለዐም ዘመቅስም።” Balaam of divination. “ሕልም ወሰገል ወመቃስም ከንቱ ኵሎሙ” Dreams, soothsayers,
and divinations are all vain: (፩ነገ: ፪። ኢያ፲፫: ፳፪። ሢራ፴፩: ፭).
ቀስም ቅስም/ qäsəm
qəsəm: Spices; taste; sweetness;
seasoning; of spices, of stew. “ዘእንበለ ቀስም።” Without spice. “ወኢይብላዕ ቀስመ” And he shall not eat spice: (ቀሌ። ቄድር).
ቀስሞ ሞት/ qäsmo
mot: (ቀሰመ ይቄስም ይቀስም። አው ቀሲም፤ ቀሰመ ይቀስም ይቅስም። ዐረ ቀሰመ፤ ከፈለ) To flavor; to season; to measure; to spice; to
combine together; to match; to flavor. “በምንት ይቄስምዎ።” With what do they flavor it. “ለቀሲመ ልሳንየ” To flavor my tongue: (ማር፬: ፴። አርጋ). It is a house that
sanctified when it waited; that killed when it loosened; therefore, it goes in
two ways.
ቀስተወ/ qästäwe:
made a bow; resembled a bow; bent. Encircled; defended; pulled, drew; shot;
his arrows with a bow. “ወቦአ ወቀስተወ ፍጽመ፤ ኢዮአብ” And he came and fully

a bow. “በቀስታመ ኀይሉ አድከሞ ለአርዌ ርኩስ።” With the strength of his staff, he exhausted the unclean beast. “በትርከ ወቀስታምከ።” Your rod and your staff. “ገሠጽኮ ለዮናስ በቀስታመ ባሕር” I rebuked Jonah with the staff of the sea: (ድጓ። መዝ: ፳፪። ቅኔ).
ቀስታዊ/ qästāwi:
Bow maker; archer, bowman; shooter; thrower.
ቀሥት/ qäsət [1]:
ቀስት/ qest.
[2]: (ዕብ ቄሼት። ሱር ቂሽታ። ዐረ ቀውስ) bow; curved; bent; weapon. “ቀስት ጠዋይ።” Bow maker. “ቀስተ ብርት፤ ቀስተ ደመና።” Steel bow; rainbow. “ቀስተ እግዚአብሔር” Bow of God: (ሆሴ፯: ፲፭። መዝ: ፲፯። ሕዝ፩: ፳፰። ኩፋ: ፮).
ቀሥፍ/ Qesif:
Qisif;
outside; countryside; rural area; land outside the city; open wilderness
outside the house; field. “ይቁሙ ቅሥፈ እቱተ።” “Let those things stand in the field. “አይሁድ እለ ተዘርዉ ውስተ ኵሉ በሓውርተ ቀሥፍ።” Jews who were scattered
everywhere in the journey of the field. “ይነብር ጽመ ቅሥፈ” He lived a dry field: (ቀሌ። አስቴ፱: ፲፱። መሳ፫: ፳፬).
ቀረብ/ qäsəf: (ብ አቅራብ) Thorny embway of
highlands and lowlands; its fruit is round, like a ball; similar to a lemon. It
has no witness; but those who introduce new things say about (ሉቃ፲፩: ፲፲፪) and if he asks for an egg, will he give him
a scorpion. they call it እንቧይ/ embway; its a mistake;
its not the true meaning. The Greek example, and everything borrowed from
Greek, when it says if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent. it says
aqrabenu in the singular, meaning scorpion, but it doesnt say aqrab in the
plural, meaning embways.
ቀረፀ/ qäräṣe:
(ዐረ ቀረፀ። ሱር ቅራጥ) Collected tax; received
tax (ዐማርኛ). Cut; trimmed; shaved; cut; of
limbs, of hair, of nails. “ቀረፀ እዝኖ ዘፀጋም።” He cut the ears of
grace. “ኢትቅርፅ እምኔከ አባለ ዘርዕ።” Do not cut from you
members of seed. “ኢይደሉ እምድኅረ ተመጥዎ ቍርባን፤ ቀሪፀ አጽፋር ወተላጽዮ ጸጕር።” It is not proper after receiving communion; cutting nails and shaving
hair. “ኢይቅርፅ ጽፈሪሁ።” He shall not cut his nails. “ኢታንኅ ሥዕርተ ርእስከ ዳእሙ ቅርፅ።” Do not shave the hair
of your head but cut it. “ሖረ ኀበ ይቀርፅ አባግዒሁ።” He went where he sheared his sheep. “ከመ በግዕ ዘኢይነብብ በቅድመ ዘይቀርፆ።” Like a sheep that
does not speak before its shearer. “እምነ ቀዳሚ ዘቀረፅኩ” From the first that I
cut: (ፊልክ: ፯። ፪፻፴። ቅዳ። ቄድር። ዲድ: ፩። ዘፍ፴፩: ፲፱። ኢሳ፶፫: ፯። ጦቢ፩: ፮).
ቀረፅ/ qäräṣ: tax; money paid by a
merchant to the government. “ስመ ዕፅ።” Name of a tree.
ቀሪም ሞት/ qärīm
mot: (ቀረመ ይቀርም ይቅርም። ዐረ ቀረመ። ዕብ ቃራም፤ ቍርበት ሸፈነ፤ ቍርበታም ኾነ) To glean, to pick; to gather the fallen and
remaining after the harvest, to gather clusters of grapes. “ሀብኒ ክፍልየ እምዘቀረምኪ፤ አኀዘት ትቅርም” Give me my portion
from what you gleaned; she began to glean: (ድር: ሚካ). Many books,
however, say teqereme instead of qereme; its a mistake. “ትትቄረሞሙ ዘከመ ተቀረምከ ኪያየ።” You will gather them as you gathered
me. “ተቅራመ ይትቄረምዎሙ ከመ ወይን ለተረፈ እስራኤል።” Gleaning, they will gather them like grapes for the
remnant of Israel. “ኢትትቀረም ሕንባባተ ወይንከ” You shall not glean the clusters of your grapes: (ሰቈ፩: ፳፪። ኤር፮: ፱። ዘሌ፲፱: ፲).
ቀሪብ ቦት/ qärib
bot: (ቀርበ ይቀርብ ይቅረብ። ዕብ ቃሬብ። ሱር ቅሪብ። ዐረ ቀሪበ) To approach; to come
near; to reach, to touch; to adhere, to stick, to be attached like flesh and
skin; to be a friend, relative, or patron. “ቅረብ ዝየ።” Approach here. “ወአልቦ ዘይክል ቀሪበ ኀቤሁ።” And no one can approach him. “ይቀርቡኒ በከናፍሪሆሙ።” They approach me with their lips. “ቦ ዘመድ ዘይቀርብ እምኔየ” There is a relative who is closer than me: (ሔኖ፲፭: ፩። ሃይ: አበ። ኢሳ፳፱: ፲፫። ሩት፫: ፲፪).
: To administer communion; to receive; to participate. “እለ ኢትቀርቡ ፃኡ።” Those who do not
approach, go out. “ይባእ ወይትከነስ ወይቅረብ።” He enters, is humble, and approaches. “ይቅረቡ ቍርባነ።” Let them approach the
offering. “ቅድመ ይቅረቡ ጳጳሳት ወእምድኅሬሁ ቀሳውስት” First, bishops approach, and then priests: (ኪዳ። ቀሌ። ፈ: መ: ፭: ፪። ቅዳ). Instead of ቀርበ ይቀርብ ይቅረብ/ qerbe yiqerb yiqreb, it

arrogant and amazing. “እለ ይቄርቡ ለእግዚ።” Those who approach God. “እስመ እሙንቱ ይቄርቡ መሥዋዕቶ።” For they approach his
sacrifices. “ለእመ ፈቀደ ይትቀረብ ቍርባነ።” While approaching. “እምዘይትቄረብ” Or their offering
approached: (ዘፀ፲፱: ፳፪። ዘሌ፳፩: ፮: ፰። ኪዳ። ሲኖዶ). Again, instead of ቀርበ/ qerbe and ቀረበ/ qerebe, it says ተቀረበ/ teqerebe; its a mistake.
“ለእመ ፈቀደ ይትቀረብ ቍርባነ።” If he wishes to approach the offering. “እምዘይትቄረብ” From that which is
approached: (ፈ: መ: ፲፬: ፱። ፍ: ነ: ፲፮). Thirdly, it says ቈረበ አቍረበ/ qorebe aqurebe as in
Amharic; its a mistake; it doesnt seem right. “ለምንት ኢትቈርቢ ቍርባነ አፍርንጅ” Why do you not offer
Frankincense offering. (ስንክ: ኅዳ፲፯).
ቀሪን ኖት/ qärīn
not: (ቀረነ ይቀርን ይቅርን። ዕብ ቃራን) To grow horns, to
bring forth; to be horned, to be a horned one. To gore, to provoke; to pierce
with horns; of cattle. To tie, to join; to combine, to arrange; of a farmer. ቅራና/ Qirana and ቍራኛ/ quragna are of this origin. To resemble a horn; to become
a horn; to be called a horn; like horns of the country. To become strong, to
prevail; to reign, to be powerful; to be superior. See ቈንደየ/ qondeye.
ቀሪዕ ዖት/ qäriʿ
ot: (ቀርዐ ይቀርዕ ይቅራዕ። ዐረ ቀረዐ። ዕብ ቃራዕ፤ ቀደደ) Kori; to hit, to strike; to beat, to hit; to
hit the head with a stick. See ኰርዐ/ korea, it is a twin of this.
ቀሪጽ ጾት/ qärīṣ
ṣot: (ቀረጸ ይቀርጽ ይቅርጽ። ዐረ ቀረጸ። ዕብ ሐራጽ) To carve, to engrave;
to make an image; to create a form, to decorate; to cut, to chip, to carve. To
write letters on wood, iron, board, stone; to carve, to engrave; to make
letters prominent or indented. “ለኵሎሙ አሕዛብ ሀለዎሙ ምግባራት ዘልማድ ዘትሤኒ በኀቤሆሙ፤ ወቦ ዘትከውን ኀሳረ በኀበ ካልኣኒሃ ከመ ቀሪጸ ገጽ በጎበ ኢትዮጵያ ወኖባ፤ ወከመ ተላጽዮ ጽሕም በኀበ አፍርንጅ።” All nations have customs that are
pleasing to them; and some are harmful to others, such as carving the face of a
gobe in Ethiopia and Nuba; and shaving the beard among the Franks. “ወረከበ መጽሐፈ ዘቀረጹ ቀደምት ውስተ ኰኵሕ” And he found a book
that the ancients carved in a cave: (ፍ: ነ: ፶፩። ኩፋ: ፰).
ቀሪፍ ፎት/ qärīf
fot: (ቀረፈ ይቀርፍ ይቅርፍ። ዐረ ቀለፈ። ሱር ቅላፍ) To peel; to skin.
See qolefe; ለ/ l and ረ/ r have alternated; ቀረፈ/ qerefe is Amharic. “ቀረፈ ኵሎ ቅርፍቶ።” He peeled off all its bark. “ቅርፍ ጸልዐ ዘኀጢአት” Peeling is the hatred of sin: (ጥበ፲፫: ፲፩። ደራሲ).
ቀራሕ/ qärāḥ: that which bleaches; that
which clears; a bleacher, a cleanser. White; clear; completely bald; bare; bright.
ቀራሚ/ qärāmi:
(ሚት ምያን ያት፤ ረምት) One who gleans; a gleaner; a picker. “በቀራሚ ፈንታ ተቀራሚ ይላል፤ ስሕተት ነው።” Instead of ቀራሚ/ qerami, it says ተቀራሚ/ teqerami; its a mistake. “ተቀራሜ በለስ አነ” I am a gleaner of
figs: (ዓሞ፯: ፲፯).
ቀራቢ/ qäräbi:
(ቢት ብያን ያት፤ ረብት) One who approaches; one who comes near; an
approacher; a giver of communion.
ቀራቢብ/ qäräbīb:
(ዐረብ) Unsewn garment; edge, hem, patch.

ቀራኒ መቅርን/ qärāni mäqərnə: (ብ መቃርንት) Horned one, one who gores, one who

ቀራንዮ/ qärāniyo:
(ጽር ክራኒዩ) Cranial; place of a skull; place of a
skull. “ጎልጎታ ዘበትርጓሜሁ ቀራንዮ” Golgotha, which is interpreted as Qeranyo: (ማቴ፳፯: ፴፫። ማር፲፭: ፳፪። ዮሐ፲፱: ፲፯). See ድማኅ/ dimah and ጎልጎታ/ golgota.
ቀራዪ/ qärāyi:
(ዪት ይያን ያት) Diviner; one who
repeats spells; one who calls demons; a whisperer.
ቀራዲን/ qärädīn:

ቀራፂ/ qäräṣi:
(ፂት ፅያን ያት) One who cuts; a
cutter; a tax collector; a shearer; a shaver. “ጸውዐት ቀራፄ ወቀረፀቶ።” She called the

ቀሬናዊ/ qärenāwi [1]:
(ሱር ቁርያና። ዐረ ቀሪይ) A poor person of

ቀርሖ ሖት/ qärḥo
hot: (ቀርሐ ይቄርሕ ይቀርሕ። ዕብ ቃራሕ) To shave; to peel; of
hair. “ይቄርሑ ርእሶሙ በእንቲኣኪ ወይቀንቱ ሠቀ” They shave their heads for you and put on

ቀርመዝ/ qärmäz:

ቀርሜሎስ/ qärmelos:
(ጽር ካርሚሎን። ዕብ ካርሜል) Name of a mountain; a
mountain; by the sea; where Elijah prayed: (፫ነገ: ፲፰: ፵፪).
ቀርም/ qärəm: (ማት፤ አቅራም) gleaning; gleanings;
the remains left by harvesters. (ተረት/ proverbs ) A person according
to their ability/ እንዳቅሙ ; grain according to
its gleaning/ ቀርሙ. “ወይተርፍ ቀርሙ ውስቴቱ።” And its gleaning will
remain in it. “ዘያስተጋብእ ቀርመ በማእረር” He who gathers
gleanings in the harvest: (ኢሳ፲፯: ፮። ሚክ፯: ፩). Instead of ፩)። በቀርም/ qerm, it says ቀሪም/ qerim; its a mistake by the copyist. “ሠዊት ዘይወድቅ እምነ ቀሪሙ” The grain that falls
from his gleaning: (ኢዮ፳፬: ፳፬).
ቀርቀር/ qärqär:
(ዕብ ቃርቆር) Name of a country; beyond the Jordan.
But those who know say rocky ravine: (መሳ፰: ፲).
ቀርቂሳዊ/ qärqəsāwi:
A checkers expert; a player. “ቀርቂሳዊ ዘይትዋነይ ቀርቂሰ” A checkers player who plays checkers: (መጽ: ቈስ: ፷፪).
ቀርቂስ/ qärqəs:
(ዕብ ቃርቃሽ፤ ሻኵራ የቃጭል ቍላ) Place; play; with many kinds of physical
games. “ለእመ ኮነ አሐዱ ዘየሐውር ኀበ ቀርቂስ፤ ለይኅድግ አው ለይሰደድ” If there is one who
goes to a checkers game; let him leave or be expelled: (መጽ: ቈስ: ፳፯).
: Checkers; backgammon. “ካህን ዘአዝለፈ ተዋንዮ ቀርቂስ” A priest who corrupted
the playing of checkers: (ፍ: ነ: ፱).
ቀርብ/ qärbə: (ዕብ ቄሬብ) Proximity; inside; internal;
stomach; the whole entirety; that which is between the feet and the head; a
container for internal objects, a jar. See ግራብ/ grab; it is a twin of this.
ቀርነብ/ qärnäb:
(ዐረ፤ አርነብ። ሱር አርንባ። ዕብ አርኔቤት) Rabbit; whose ears
are like horns; resembling horns; long; that eats grass; a type of flirtatious
animal.
ቀርነናእ/ qärnänāʾ:
(ዕብ ቅርናን) Horned worm; reptile; whose covering
is a shell; whose horn is a bright color; smooth and soft. See ሐለዚዝ/ halezīz and ናእትን/ naet.
ቀርነው ቀርነለው/ qärnäw qärnäläw: ቀርናዊ፤ ቀርነ ላዊ/ Qernawi; qerne lawi; horned, bent; see
lawi. Horn of anointing or anointing horn. That which priests and kings from
the tribe of Levi and Judah are anointed with. Poets, however, call it perfume:
(ጥሬ: ሰዋ).
ቀርኔን/ qärnenə:
Qeren, name of a country. “ወእለሂ እምቀርኔን” And those from Qernen: (ግብ፪: ፲).

perfume, incense, smoke; loosening, weeping; dirge, lament; and the like. “እስመ ተዐቅቦ ለዕለተ ቀበርየ።” They made a very great burning for him. “ወረከበ ቀበረ ዘወልደ መበለት” And the people did not make a burning
for him: (፪ዜና: ፲፮: ፲፬። ፳፩: ፲፱).

ቀበያወበጠ/ Q’ebeyawebet’e: (የቧልተኛ ግስ) He mixed; he smacked his lips; he made lip
movements; while eating, swallowing, or mixing. Its like አቈለጳጰሰ/ aqolepapese; it is conjugated simply by custom without
evidence; and teachers count it as a verb of six letters in the list of verbs.
ቀቢል ሎት/ Q’ebeel
Lot: (ቀብለ ይቀብል ይቅበል። ነትገ፤ ሐጸ) To lessen; to diminish;
to divide; to be partial; from number, from fullness. “ይቀብላ እምኍልቍ አውራኂሁ።” It lessens from the
number of its paths. “ባሕርኒ ሶበ ይቀብል።” The sea also lessens.
“ትሁብ ለኵሉ እንዘ ኢትቀብል።” You give to all without lessening. “አሐዱ በመለኮት ዘኢይትከፈል፤ ምሉእ በኵለሄ ዘኢይቀብል” One in divinity who is indivisible; full
in all who does not diminish: (ኢዮ፲፬: ፲፩። ፳፩: ፳፲፩። ቅዳ: ዮሐ። ገድ: ኪሮ).
ቀቢር ሮት/ Q’ebeer
Rot: (ቀበረ ይቀብር ይቅብር። ዕብ ቃባር። ሱር ቅባር። ዐረ ቀበረ) To dig, to submerge;
to bury, to conceal, to hide; to put in a hole, to bring in; to close, to cover
with earth; of a corpse, of money. See ደፈነ/ defene. “እቅብሮ ለአቡየ።” Bury my father. “ይቅብሩ ምዉታኒሆሙ።” Let them bury their dead. “ወኢያበውሑ ይቅብርዎሙ።” And they did not hasten to bury them. “ወነበሩ እንዘ ይቀበሩ ርእሶሙ።” And they were burying their heads. “ወቀበራ ታሕተ ዕፀ ሕይወት፤ ሰወራ” And he buried her under the tree of life; he hid her: (ማቴ፰: ፳፩: ፳፪። ራእ፲፩: ፱። አዋል).

ቀቢዕ ዖት/ Q’ebee
Ot: (ቀብዐ ይቀብዕ ይቅባዕ። ዕብ ቃባዕ፤ ሐገገ፤ ዐደመ፤ መልአ፤ ሤመ) To anoint; to rub; to smear; to appoint, to
honor, to beautify; to heal. “ቀብዖ ቅብዐ ቅድሳት።” He anointed him with
holy anointing oil. “ቀብዖ በሕጕሬ።” He anointed him with joy. “ቀብዖ ወርቀ ንጹሐ።” He anointed him with pure gold. “ኢትቅብዖ ዕፍረተ።” Do not anoint him with dust. “ገብረ ጽቡረ በምራቁ ወቀብዖ አዕይንቲሁ” He made clay with his saliva and anointed his eyes: (ሢራ፵፭: ፲፭። ጥበ፲፫: ፲፬። ፫ነገ: ፲: ፲፰። ፍ: ነ: ፶፩። ዮሐ፱: ፮). Because clothing and color, perfume and the
anointed are different, their matching is told as an example of union. “ከመ ፀምር ውስተ ሠርዮ ከማሁ ተቀቢዖ ትስብእተ በመለኮቱ።” As wool is anointed into a dye, so is humanity anointed
by his divinity. “ዕፍረትሰ ሥጋ ዚኣኪ ወተቀባዒሁ ቃል ውእቱ” For dust is your flesh, and the word is its anointer: (ኤጲ: አክሲ። አርጋ) . Such reading is called a verb that wears a
name; but the ካሮች/ Karo people,
considering the name as gold and the example as righteousness, say ቀብዐ/ qebea means united, and ተቀብዐ/ teqebea means was united; they interpret it illogically,
ungrammatically, inappropriately, and without understanding the mystery. If the
meaning of ተቀብዐ/ teqebea is was
united, then Cyril of Alexandria says, He does not accept anointing in his
being. And his divinity is not anointed; this reading forces them to deny
natural union against their will; it suggests that his divinity is not united.
To become a teacher without being a student speaks such destructive things,
making the truth false and the false true. They have not even found the heart
or back of the mystery of ተሰብአ/ tesebea and ተቀብዐ/ teqebea; and so are
the anointings.
ቀቢው ዎት/ Q’ebeew Wot: (ቀበወ ይቀቡ ይቅቡ) To blow; to inflate; to
make prominent. See ቀብተተ/ qebtete; it is a part of this.
ቀቢጽ ጾት/ Q’ebeets
Ts’ot: (ቀብጸ ይቀብጽ ይቅበጽ። ዕብ ቃባጽ፤ ሰበሰበ) To falter, to tremble; to fall, to be
startled; to be troubled, to lose hope. “ተዐገሡ ወኢትቅበጹ።” Be patient and do not falter. “ቀብጸተኒ ነፍስየ።” My soul faltered. “አቡየ ወእምየ ቀብጹኒ ወኢይሴፈዉ እንከ ይርአዩኒ” My father and mother
faltered and did not hope to see me: (ሄርማ። መዝ: ፻፵፪። ጦቢ፲: ፯). Instead of ቀብጸ/ qebtse, it says ተቀብጸ/ teqebtse; it is a mistake. “እለ ተቀብጹ።” Those who faltered. “ኢትትቀበጽ” Do not falter: (ኪዳ። ሢራ፳፪: ፳፪).
ቀባሪ/ Q’ebaree:
(ሪት ርያን ያት፤ በርት) one who buries, a grave digger. (ተረት/ proverbs ) A burier by the Creator; a mourner,
a burier.
ቀባዒ/ Q’ebaee:
(ዒት ዕያን ያት) One who anoints; anointer;
appointer. “አብ ቀባዒ፤ ወልድ ተቀባዒ፤ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ቅብዕ: Father is the
anointer; son is the anointed; Holy Spirit is the anointing: (አዕ ምስ).
ቀብሎ ሎት/ Q’eblo
Lot: (ቀበለ ይቄብል ይቀብል። ዕብ ቃባል። ሱር ቅባል። ዐረ ቀበለ፤ ተቀበለ) To give; to feed, to swallow; to hand over, to grasp.
Instead of ተቀበለ/ teqebele, it says ቀበለ/ qebele; its a mistake: (ዘፍ፳፯: ፵፭).
ቀብቀሊስ/ Q’ebq’elees: (ዐረ እልቀብቀሊስ) Archbishop. The exact meaning has not
been found: (ማር: ይሥ).
ቀብቀበ/ Q’ebq’ebe:
(ትግሬ) He dug. qebqebe; planted a stake; made
a tapping sound; repeatedly hit; plowed, softened (ዐማርኛ). The book, however, says አቀብቀበ/ aqebqebe instead of ቀብቀበ/ qebqebe; its a mistake. “ሐራሲ ያቀድም አቀብቅቦታ ወአስተዳልዎታ” The plowman first prepares and arranges it: (ግብ: ሕማ).
ቀብተተ/ Q’ebtete:
qebtete; blew, made prominent. See ቀበወ/ qebewe.
ቀብአ/ Q’eb’a: He anointed; he smeared;
ቀቢዕ ቀብዐ/ qebi qeba.
ቀተተ/ Q’etete:

ቀቲል ሎት/ Q’eteel Lot: (ቀተለ ይቀትል ይቅትል። ዕብ ቃጣል። ሱር ቅጣል። ዐረ ቀተለ) To kill; to stab, to
wound; to cut; to destroy; to weaken, to harm. “ይመክሩ ለቀቲል።” They devise to kill. “ቀተለ ርእሶ ለሊሁ።” He killed his own head. “ዕፄ ቀተሎ ለዝኩ ሐምሐም።” A worm killed this
gourd. “በጾም ሰብእናሆሙ ቀተሉ” They killed their humanity by fasting: (ኢሳ፶፱: ፯። ዮሴፍ። ዮና፬: ፯። ድጓ).
ቀቲው ዎት/ Q’eteew
Wot: (ቀተወ ይቀቱ ይቅቱ። ዐረ ወቀተ፤ ጊዜ ወሰነ) To pay tribute; to
give tribute; to be a tributary. When a Oromo says ox farmer, the word ቆቲዮ ቆቱ/ qotiyo qotu agrees with this. To contend; to make bets; to
pay the debt of bets. Instead of ቀተወ/ qetewe, it says ቀተተ/ qetete, and its pure form says qetet as if saying qetot; its
a mistake of a copyist and a scribe. “ከመ ይግበር ቀተተ ምስሌሁ።” That he might make a
tribute with him. “ወእለ ይሰትዩ በቀተት” And those who drink by tribute: (ዳን፲፩: ፮። ፍ: ነ: ፲፯).
ቀታ/ Q’eta: (ዐረ ቂሻእ) Gourd; a type of
pumpkin. “አልቀታ ወሐምሐም” The gourd and the gourd: (ፍ: ነ: ፲፯).
ቀታሊ/ Q’etalee:
(ሊት ልያን ያት፤ ተልት) One who kills; a killer; a destroyer. “ቀታሌ ነፍስ።” Killer of souls. “ኮነተኒ ቀታሊተ።” It made me a killer. “ኖሎት ቀታልያን።” Shepherds are killers. “ቀተልተ አበዊሆሙ” Killers of their fathers: (ሢራ፴፩: ፳፭። ሮሜ፯: ፲። ኤር፳፫: ፩። ፩ጢሞ: ፩: ፱). Instead of ቅቱል/ qetul, it says ቀታሊ/ qetali; its a mistake. “ኢትግበርዋ ቀታሊተ ለምድርክሙ” Do not make your land a killer: (ዘኍ፴፭: ፴፫).
ቀትል/ Q’etl: (ላት) Killing; battle line; battle; war. “ቀትል በመጥባሕት።” Killing by the sword.
“ገብሩ ቀትለ።” They waged war. “ጸብእ ወቀትል።” War and killing. “በሕገ ቀትል።” By the law of

ቀትር/ Q’etr: midday; noon; sixth
hour; when the suns rays directly pierce the earth. “ይጼልለከ እምፀሓየ ቀትር።” He will protect you

ቀትሮ ሮት/ Q’etro
Rot: (ቀተረ ይቄትር ይቀትር። አው ቀቲር፤ ቀተረ ይቀትር ይቅትር። ዐረ ቀተረ) To join; to match; to
fasten; to fix; to set; of wood, of iron. To close, to lock, to block; to throw;
to block; of a lock. “ዐጸወ ኆኅተ ወቀተረ።” He closed the door
and fastened it. “ዕጽዉ ኆኅተ ወቀትሩ።” They closed the door
and fastened it. “ወዳእነ ቀተርነ ኆኅተ” And we fastened the door: (መሳ፫: ፳፫። ፬ነገ: ፮: ፴፪። ሉቃ፲፩: ፯).

ቀነነ/ Q’enene:

regulation; he gave canon. “ቀንኑ ላዕለ ብእሲት ዝግዕት።” They established upon a silenced
woman. “እመ ቦ ዘቀነነ ርእሶ በፈቃዱ” If there is one who
established himself willingly: (ሲኖዶ። ቄድር).

envy; to be sad, to be angry, to be annoyed; at anothers fortune and wealth. Or
to wake up and strive to be like him; to make him an example; to say, What does
he love me for.. “ኢትቅናእ ላዕለ አኩያን።” Do not be jealous of
the wicked. “ተመየጥ ኀበ ቃሕም ወቅናእ ርእየከ ፍናዊሁ።” Go to the ant and see
its ways. “ቅናእ ለንስሓ” Be zealous for repentance: (መዝ: ፴፮። ምሳ፮: ፮። ራእ፫: ፲፱).
ቀኒጽ ጾት/ Q’eneets’
Ts’ot: (ቀነጸ ይቀንጽ ይቅንጽ) To rise, to stand up straight; to

stab, to wound; to pierce, to stab. “ቀኑ ፍቅረከ ውስተ ልብየ።” Fasten your love in
my heart. ቀነዉኒ እደውየ ወእገርየ።” They pierced my hands and feet. “በቅንዋቲከ ቀነውኮ ለሞት” With your nails, you
nailed me to death: (ያዕ: ዘእል። መዝ: ፳፲፩። ግንዘ).
ቀንይ ዮት/ Q’eny
Yot [1]: (ቀንየ ይቀኒ ይቅነይ። ዕብ ቆኔን) To cry out, to weep,
to wail; to lament, to mourn; to sing, to murmur; to sing, to chant; to lead,
to compose; a leader, a chanter; to be a poet. The book, however, says ተቀንየ/ teqenye instead of ቀንየ/ qenye; it doesnt seem right; te is Amharic. “ረከብዎ ለአባ የሴፍ እንዘ ይትቀነይ ምስለ አሐዱ መነኮስ።” They found Father Joseph chanting with
a monk. “ካህናት ይትቀነዩ ዘንተ መዝሙረ በዜማ ሐዘንዚን።” Priests chant this
psalm in a sad melody. “ወእምዝ በል ወተቀነይ ሃሌ ሉያ።” And then say and
chant Hallelujah. “ወአኀዘ ይትቀነይ በሠለስቱ ዜማ” And he began to chant
in three melodies: (ስንክ: ጥቅ፳፫። ግንዘ። ድጓ። ታምር).
[2]: (ቀነየ ይቀኒ ይቅኒ። ዕብ ቃናህ። ሱር ቅናእ። ዐረ ቀነይ) To buy, to redeem; to purchase; to take, to make money
with a price; see tereye. To create, to make; to buy, to acquire; to be a
ruler, a commander, a lord; to force to work, to make pay tribute; to make
plow, to make dig; to make a slave. “ውእቱ ይቅኒኪ።” He will rule you. “ወይቀንይዎሙ አርባዕተ ምእተ ዓመተ።” And they ruled them for
four hundred years. “እለ እኩየ ቅኔ ይቀንይዎሙ።” Those who are evil poems, he rules them. “ንቅንዮ ለነዳይ በዕዳነ” Let us buy the poor with
our debts: (ዘፍ፫: ፲፮። ፲፭: ፲፫። ኢሳ፲፱: ፬። ዓሞ፰: ፮).
ቀንዲላት ቀናዲል/ Q’endeelat Q’enadeel: Candlesticks; lights; illuminations:
(ስንክ: መስ፲። ጥር፴). ቈንዳላ/ Qondala in Amharic comes
from this.
ቀንዲል/ Q’endeel: (ዐረ ቂንዲል) Light; illumination; of
oil, of wax; but the standard is oil. “ለእመ ኀልቀ ቅብዐ ዘይት አምቀንዲል።” If the oil runs out from
the lamp. “ወኢይቀድሱ በአሐዱ ሠምዕ አላ በክልኤቱ በገበዋተ ምሥዋዕ፤ አው በቀንዲል ህየንተ ሠለስቱ ሠምዕ” And they do not sanctify with one wax, but with two at
the entrances of the altar; or with a lamp instead of three waxes: (መጽ: ምስ። ሥር: ቅዳ). Book of the Lamp; Book
of Oil; Prayer of Oil, anointing of the sick; that is read and prayed over oil.
ቀንጠሰ/ Q’ent’ese: (ቀንጠበ) Qentes; he cut, he
broke off; he picked; of cabbage, of provisions. “አልቦሙ ዘይበልዑ ዘእንበለ ሐምለ ገዳም፤ ይቀነጥሱ እምአድባር ወይሴሰዩ” They have nothing to eat
except wild herbs; they pick from the mountains and eat: (ዕር: ኢሳ).
ቀንጠበ/ qänṭäbe:
(ቀጠበ) qenetebe; qwenetebe; he cut; he
broke off. “ይቀንጥቡ ድርዖ “They break off branches: (አዋል).
ቀንጠወ/ qänṭäwe:
He intoxicated; he made giddy; he took away health; he took away sense; that
which they ate or drank too much.
ቀንጦስጤ/ qänṭosṭe:
(ጽር አኮንቲስቴ) Javelin throwers; archers; bowmen: (፩ነገ: ፴፩: ፫).
ቀኖት/ Qenot:
(ታት) Nail; spike; peg,
wedge; of iron, of wood. “በቀኖት አጽንዕዎ።” They fastened it with nails. “አይቴ ውእቱ ቀኖትከ ሞት።” Where is your nail,
death. “ይከውኑክሙ መሥገርተ ወዕቅፍተ ወቀኖታተ” They will be for you a snare, a trap, and nails: (ኤር፲: ፬። ሆሴ፲፫: ፲፬። ኢያ፳፫: ፲፫).
ቀኖና/ qänonā:
(ናት። ጽር ካኖን) Law, order, rule; judgment,
punishment. “ቀኖና ብሂል ሥርዐት።” Qenona means order. “ቀኖናተ ነገሥት።” Laws of kings. “እመ ቦ ብእሲ ዘዘመወ ምስለ ወለተ ብእሲቱ ቀኖናሁ ዐሠርቱ ወኀምስቱ ዓመት።” If there is a man who committed adultery with his fathers daughter, his
punishment is fifteen years. “ዘዘመወ ምዕረ አሐተ ያጹርዎ ቀኖና ቀሊለ፤ ወለእመ ተመይጠ ያክብዱ ላዕሌሁ ቆኖና” Whoever commits adultery once, they give him a light punishment; and if
he returns, they increase his punishment. “ወሀቦ ቆኖናተ ክቡዳተ” And he gave him heavy punishments: (ፈ: መ: ፭: ፫። ፮: ፮። ስንክ: ነሐ፲፭).
ቀዊል ሎት/ qäwīl
lot: (ቆለ፤ ቀወለ ይቀውል ይቁል። ዐረ ቃለ) Saying; speech; sound; to mean, to speak; to
shout, to give a word; to make heard. Except for the root, the context is not
found. ቆሌ፤ ቀውላላ ቂል፤ ቃቂል ቃጭል/ Qole; qewlala (fool) qaqil (bell) meaning comes from
this.
ቀዊም ሞት/ qäwīm
mot: (ቆመ ይቀውም ይቁም። ዕብ ቁም። ሱር ቃም። ዐረ ቃመ) To stand; to rise; to
stand upright; to be like a pillar; to endure, to strengthen, to spread. “ወአጽምዑ ወንጌለ።” Stand and listen to the gospel. “ብዙኃን ቆሙ ላዕሌየ።” Many stood against
me. “ቁም በእገሪከ። Stand on your feet. “አእጋሪከ እለ ጠብዓ ለቀዊም” Your feet, which are
firm to stand: (ቅዳ። መዝ: ፫። ሕዝ፪: ፩። ደራሲ).
: To hinder; to prevent; to stay standing; to endure, to
live firmly; to be permanent; to replace, to inherit; to take over the fathers
or anothers work and place. “ቆመ ዝናም እምሰማይ።” Rain stopped from the
sky. “ቆመ ውሕዘተ ደማ።” The flow of her blood stopped. “ቁመኒ ቁመኒ በእንተ አግዚ።” Stand, stand for the
Lord. “እፎ ይቀውም መንግሥቱ።” How can his kingdom stand. “ወኵሉ ቦቱ ቆመ።” And all things are in
him. “ሃይማኖትሰ ትቀውም ለዓለም።” Faith stands forever. “ኢይቀውም ትእዛዙ።” His command does not
stand. “ወኢይቀውም ዘርዑ” And his seed does not stand: (ዘፍ፰: ፪። ሉቃ፰: ፵። ገድ: ተክ። ሉቃ፲፩: ፲፰። ቆላ፩: ፲፯። ሢራ፵: ፲፪። ፍ: ነ: ፵፩። ኤር). Instead of saying was
born, was created, was reconciled, it says stood; it is a copyists mistake. “ዘእንበለ ትቁም ምድር።” Unless the earth stands.
“እንበለ ይቁሙ አድባር” Unless the mountains stand: (ሱቱ: ዕዝ፩: ፮። መዝ: ፹፱).
ቀዊዕ ዖት/ qäwiʿ
ot: (ቆዐ ይቀውዕ ይቃዕ፤ ይቅዋዕ) To itemize; to give birth; to squeeze; to begin to bear fruit. Of
crops, of vegetables. To pick, to gather; to harvest, to reap. See ቈዐለ/ qoale; it is a hybrid of this.
ቀዋሚ/ qäwāmi:
(ሚት ምያን ያት) one who stands; permanent;
one who lives firmly; advocate, father of a matter; steward; appointee. “ሱራፈል ወኪሩቤል ቀዋምያን ዐውደ መንበሩ።” Seraphim and Cherubim
are standing around his throne. “ጽርሕ ቀዋሚት እንተ ኢትወድቅ።” A permanent dwelling
that does not fall. “ቀዋሚ ይረክብ ስብሐተ።” A permanent one receives glory. “ቀዋሚሃ ለመዐስብ።” The permanent one of the accountant. “ቀዋሚ ለመበለት ወለዕጓለ ማውታ።” one who stands for the widow and the orphan. “ወይርአይ ሊቀ ምኔት እምአኀው ኀበ ዘሎቱ ምግባር ሠናይ፤ ወይረስዮ ቀዋሜ ላዕለ ምኔት ወላዕለ መዛግብቲሁ” And the head of the monastery sees
from among the brothers one who has good conduct; and he appoints him as a
permanent one over the monastery and over its treasuries: (ግንዘ። አርጋ: ፫። ፪ቆሮ: ፫: ፲፩። ድጓ። ኪዳ። ፍ: ነ: ፲).
ቀዋም/ qäwām: Qewami; strong; tall,
long. “ኵሉ አረፍት ቀዋም” All the high towers: (ኢሳ፪: ፲፭).
ቀዋብዕ/ qäwābəʿ:
(ቀዋብዕት፤ ቆብዓት) Caps, head coverings. “ሥራዕ ሎሙ ቀዋብዕተ ዘአልቦ ዝዕላ” Make for them caps
without pride: (ሥር: ጳኵ).
ቀውስ/ qäws [1]:
(ዐረብ) Bow; arc: (ገድ: አዳ).
[2]: (እልቀውስ) Star; name of a star; its shape resembles an archer
with a bow. And its star is of ኅዳር/ Hedar; it accompanies
the sun for 29 days and 28 degrees: (አቡሻ: ፬).
ቀውዕ ቆዕ/ qäwəʿ
qoʿ: Cloth; unripe fruit; pepper.
Harvest, crop: (ትግሬ). “በጽሐ ጊዜ ቀውዕ።” The time of unripe fruit has come. “ቆዐ ትጼኑ ቆዐ ጽጌ ወይን።” The unripe fruit smells sweet, the
grape flower. “አበው በልዑ ቆዐ።” Fathers ate unripe
fruit. “ከመ ቆዐ ቀምሕ።” Like unripe fruit of
wormwood. “ፍሬሆሙ ቆዕ ከንቱ” Their fruit is vain
unripe fruit: (መጽ: ምስ። ድጓ። ሕዝ፲፰: ፪። ሢራ፶፩: ፲፭። ጥበ፬: ፭). Instead of saying ኮል ዕንጐት/ kol engot (bitter herb), it says ቆዕ / qo; its a mistake. እንዘ ቆዑ ተመሥጠ ሕፃነ/ Unripe fruit with nard: (ጥበ፲፬: ፲፭። ምሳ፲፫: ፪).
: Infant; child; tender sapling; slender twig. “እንዘ ቆዑ ተመሥጠ ሕፃነ” While the infant was
being formed as unripe fruit: (ጥበ፲፬: ፲፭። ምሳ፲፫: ፪).
ቀዘፈ/ qäzäfe:
(ዐረብ) . Since Arabs add a dot to dalet and
say za, therefore qezefe and qedefe should be confused with each other. See ቀያፈ/ qeyafe and ኀደፈ/ hadefe.
ቀየሰ/ qäyäse:
(ትግሬ ወዐረብ) He measured; he surveyed, he
estimated.
ቀዪሕ ሖት/ qäyīḥ
hot: (ሕት ሓን ሓት ያሕ) Red; that resembles
fire. “አርዌ ቀይሕ።” Red beast. “ከመ ጽጌ ረዳ ቀይሕት።” Like red roses. “ዕጐልት ቀያሕ።” Red calves. “አፍራስ ቀይሓን።” Red horses. “ሕብራት ቀይሓት” Red colors: (ራእ፲፯: ፫። ስንክ: ሠኔ፩። ዘኍ፲፱: ፪። ዘካ፩: ፰። ፈላስ).
ቀዪሕ ቀይሕ/ qäyīḥ
qäyḥ: (Qeha yiqeyih yiqih.
Hebrew Adam of Edom) To redden; to be red; to resemble blood. “ለምንት ቄሐ አልባሲከ።” Why is your clothing
red. “ቄሐ ከመ ደም ውእቱ ማይ።” The water is red like
blood. “ይቀይሕ እምጽጌ ረዳ” It reddens more than a rose: (ኢሳ፩: ፲፰። ፷፮: ፪። ፬ነገ: ፫: ፳፪። ሔኖ).
ቀዪእ ኦት/ qäyiʿ
ot: (ቄአ ይቀይእ ይቂእ። ዕብ ቃእ። ዐረ ቃአ) To vomit; to
regurgitate; to spit out; to reject; to bring back out what entered the mouth; to
not accept someones words, teaching, argument. “ብላዕ በዐቅም ከመ ኢትቂእ።” Eat moderately so
that you dont vomit. “ቄአ እምአፉሁ ደመ ብዙኀ።” He vomited much blood
from his mouth. “ቄእከ ሕምዘ እማፉከ ላዕለ ሔዋን።” You vomited filth
from your mouth upon Eve. “እምከመ ሰምዐ ይቀይኦ ወያገብኦ ድኅረ ዘባኑ” As soon as he hears,
he vomits it and throws it behind his back: (ምሳ፳፭: ፲፮። ዮሴፍ። መቃ። ሢራ፳፩: ፲፭).
ቀያሕይት/ qäyāḥəyət:
(ዕብ አዳምዳሜት) Reddish; slightly red; dappled; a
little red; smiling; not very bright; not burst leprosy flower; bud: (ዘሌ፲፫: ፳፬: ፵፱። ፲፬: ፴፯).
ቀያሚ/ qäyāmi:
(ሚት ምያን ያት) One who resents; one
who is resented; a vengeful person: (ፍ: ነ: ፭).
ቀያኢ/ qäyāʾi:
(ኢት እያን ያት) One who spits; a
spitter; a vomiter.
ቀይሞ ሞት/ qäymo
mot: (ቀየመ ይቄይም ይቀይም። ዕብ ናቃም። ሱር ንቃም። ዐረ ነቀመ) To resent; to avenge;

“ኢትትቀየም ቢጸከ።” Do not resent your neighbor. “ተቀያሚ ወመፍቀሬ ንዋይ።” Resentful and lover

ቀዲሕ ሖት/ qädīḥ
hot: (ቀድሐ ይቀድሕ ይቅዳሕ። ዐረ ቀደሐ። ዕብ ቃዳሕ፤ ነደ ውዕየ) To draw; to dip; to
scoop; to ladle; to add; to overturn; to pass; to gather, to pick, to collect.
Of liquid, of words, of books; of fire, of light, of candle. “ለቀዲሐ ማይ።” To draw water. “እለ ይቀድሕዎ ለሜስ።” Those who mix the drink. “ወይን ዘቀዳሕኩ ለክሙ።” Wine that I drew for you. “መጽሐፈ ስንክሳር ዘበትርጓሜሁ ጉባኤ፤ ዘቀድሕዎ አበዊነ እምኵሎን ገድላት” The book of Synaxarium, which is a

smell good; to be delicious; to be clean; to be pure; to be clean, bright,
white; from this, to be loved, to be honored. “ኢቀደወ ኅሊናሁ አላ ከመ ዛሕለ ብርት ኮነ” His mind was not
beautiful, but it became like a cold stone: (መጽ: ምስ).
ቀዲድ ዶት/ qädīd
dot: (ቀደ ይቀድድ ይቅድድ። ዕብ ቃዴድ) To tear; to split; to plow, to furrow; of the earth, of
clothes. (ተረት/ proverbs ) “ከቀዳዳ ይሻላል ጠምዳዳ።” A crooked one is better than a hole. መቃድ ቅድ ቃዳ ቈዳ/ Meqad, qid, qada, qoda come from this.
ቀዲፍ ፎት/ qädīf
fot: (ቀደፈ ይቀድፍ ይቅድፍ። ዐረ ቀዘፈ) To row; to cleave
the sea; to lead and take a canoe, a ship; to make go. See ኀደፈ/ hadefen; it is a neighbor of this. “እለ ይቀድፉ” Those who row: (ሕዝ፳፯: ፱: ፳፯: ፳፱: ፴፭).
ቀዳሒ/ qädāḥi:
(ሒት ሕያን ያት፤ ሕት) One who draws; a drawer; a server. “ሐጣብያነ ዕፀው ወቀዳሕያነ ማይ።” Wood choppers and water drawers. “ወቀዳሕቶኒ።” And their drawers. “ሊቀ ቀዳሕያን” Chief of drawers: (መቃ። ፫ነገ: ፲: ፭። ዘፍ፵: ፩).
ቀዳሚ/ qädami [1]:
(ሚት ምያን ያት፤ ደምት) one who precedes; one who excels; great,

ቀድሶ ሶት/ qädso
sot: (ቀደሰ ይቄድስ ይቀድስ። ዕብ ቂዳሽ። ሱር ቃዲሽ። ዐረ ቀደሰ) To sanctify; to
bless, to praise; to honor, to magnify; to cleanse, to purify, to separate; to
give to God; to make Gods property. “ለቀሲስ ሎቱ አሐዱ ሥልጣን፤ ወውእቱ ከመ ይምሀር ወያጥምቅ ወይቀድስ ወይባርክ ሕዝበ።” For a priest, he has one authority; and that is to teach, baptize,
sanctify, and bless the people. “ቀድሱ ኵሎ አብያተ ክርስቲያናት ዘሐነጽክምዎሙ ወኅትምዎሙ በማኅተመ እግዚ ዘውእቱ ቅብዐ ሜሮን ቅዱስ።” Sanctify all the churches that you
built and seal them with the seal of God, which is the holy oil of myron. “ቀድስዎ ለእግዚ።” Sanctify it to the Lord. “ባረካ ወቀደሳ።” He blessed and sanctified her. “ያነጽሕ ወይቄድስ እምኵሉ ርኵስ።” He cleanses and sanctifies from all
impurity. “እቄድሶሙ ለሕዝብ ሊተ” I sanctify them for the people: (ፍ: ነ: ፮። ፈ: መ: ፳፰: ፩። ኢሳ፰: ፲፪። ዘፍ፪: ፫። ዘሌ፲፮: ፲፱። ኩፋ: ፪).
ቀጋ/ qäga: (ጋት) name of a tree; thorny; its flower smells
good; its fruit is tasty. (ተረት/ proverbs ) “የቤት ቀጋ፤ የሜዳ ዐልጋ።” Qega of the house; Alga
of the field. Which is called Bahire Qega: (ገድ: ተክ).
ቀጠራቅጢን/ qäṭäräqəṭīn: (ጽር ካታራክቲስ) Sea bird; like a goose, like a soren.
But those who know say it is a quail: (ዘሌ፲፩: ፲፯። ዘዳ፲፬: ፲፯).
ቀጢብ ቦት/ qäṭib
bot: (ቀጠበ ይቀጥብ ይቅጥብ። ዕብ ቃጣብ) To drip; to milk; to
indicate; to cut, to break; of a branch, of clothes. To economize; to deny. See
ቀንጠበ/ qenteb; its root is
this.
ቀጢን ናት/ qäṭ'in
nāt [1]: (ቀጠነ ይቀጥን ይቅጥን። ሱር ቅጢን። ዕብ ቃጦን) To become thin; to
decrease; to be thin.
[2]: (ናን ናት ጣን፤ ጠንት) That became thin; thin; miserly; subtle. “ልብስ ቀጢን ዘይትዐጸፍ ካህን።” Thin clothing that a
priest wears. “ሰብዐቱ ሠዊት ቀጢናን።” Seven thin ears of corn. “አስናኒሁ ቀጢናት።” His teeth are thin. “በቀጣን ዐይነ ልብ።” With a thin eye of the
heart. With thinness, “በቀጠንት ገለድኩ ምስካብየ።” I prepared my bed. “ብእሲ ዘርሱይ በቀጠንት አልባስ፤ እለሰ ቀጠንተ ይለብሱ ውስተ አብያተ ነገሥት ሀለዉ” A man dressed in thin
clothes; those who wear thin clothes are in the houses of kings: (ሢራ፶: ፪። ዘፍ፵፩: ፮። ዜና: እስ። ቄር: ጰላ። ምሳ: ፯: ፲፮። ማቴ፲፩: ፰).
ቀጢፍ ፎት/ qäṭ'if
fot: (ቀጠፈ ይቀጥፍ ይቅጥፍ። ዕብ ቃጣፍ) To pluck; to break
off; to pinch off; to cut off; to prune; to trim; to cut; to uproot, to lick; of
leaves, of ears of corn. “ንትፈሣሕ በዕፀዊሃ ወአኮ ዘንቀጥፍ እምፍሬሃ” Let us rejoice in its trees and not
pluck from its fruit: (ቅዳ: አት። ሕዝ፲፯: ፬). To lie; to spoil things; (ዐማርኛ). It also indicates theft.
ቀጣ/ qäṭä: (ዕብ ቃጥ፤ ጥቀ) A small gold coin; onetwentieth of a weqet. “ተሣየጠ በኀምሳ ቀጣ” He was sold for fifty
qeta: (አዋል).
ቀጣፊ/ qäṭäfi:
(ፊት ፍያን ያት) one who plucks; one
who lies; a liar; a thief. “ላዩ
ጣፊ ውስጡ ቀጣፊ” Outside a flatterer, inside a plucker, they say.
ቀጥቃጢ/ qäṭəqäṭ'i:
(ጢት ጥያን ያት) One who smashes; a
smasher; a blacksmith.
ቀጥቅጦ ጦት/ qäṭəqəṭo
ṭot: (ቀጥቀጠ ይቀጠቅጥ ይቀጥቅጥ። ዕብ ቃጥቄጥ) To smash; to crush; to
pound, to grind; to hit repeatedly; to break; to demolish; to destroy. Its root
and origin are qotit qote qotete. “ቀጥቅጥ መዝራዕቶ።” Smash his arms. “በመፍጽሐ ኀጺን ዐፅመ እገሪሁ ቀጥቀጡ።” They smashed his leg bones with an iron tool. “ቀጥቅጦ ለፀራዊ።” He smashed the enemies. “እግዚ ይቀጠቅጥ ጸብአ።” The Lord smashes war. “ወቀጥቀጦሙ እግዚ ዐቢየ ቅጥቃጤ።” And the Lord smashed them with a great
smashing. “ንቀጥቅጦ እምድረ ሕያዋን” Let us smash him from the land of the living: (መዝ: ፱። ስንክ: ነሐ፳፭። ሢራ፴፫: ፱። ዘፀ፲፭: ፫። ኢያ፲: ፲። ኤር፲፩: ፲፱).
ቀጸለ/ qäṣäle:
(ይቄጽል ይቀጽል፤ ቀጽሎ) He continued; he extended; he added; of height, of fruit, of learning.
ቀጸላ/ qäṣälā [1]:
(ላት)headwear ornament, reward; both small and big; all of them by their
names and types. “ወገሮ ሥልሶ ሠርመዲ ከሎታ፤ አክሊል ዘውድ ሜትራ፤ ኵፌት ቆብ መጠምጠሚያ፤ ጠርቡሽ ባርኔጣ፤ የመሰለው ኹሉ።” Wegero, silso, sermedi, kelota; crown, diadem, miter; kufet, cap, turban;
terbush, hat; and the like. “ዕጨጌዎችና አበ ምኔቶች በቆባቸው ላይ የሚለብሱት፤ የሚከናነቡት ሻሽ ነጠላ።” Shawl worn by echege
and abbots over their caps. “ወህየንተ ዘወርቅ ቀጸላሃ፤ ብርሐት ወፅአ ላዕሌሃ፤ ወድማኅ ኢኮነት ድማኀ።” And instead of her
golden head covering, light came out upon her; and it was not darkness, it was
light. “ወዲበ ርእሶሙ ቦሙ ቀጸላ በአምሳለ ወርቅ።” And upon their heads were head coverings in the image of gold. “ሰብዐቱ ቀጸላት።” Seven head coverings. “ወተቀጸሊ ቀጸላኪ ዲበ ርእስኪ ዘስብሐቲሁ ቅዱስ።” And your head covering was put on your head, whose glory is holy. “ቀጸላቲሆን ወባሕርያቲሆን” Their head coverings and their natures: (ቅኔ። ራእ፱: ፯። ፲፪: ፫። ባሮ፭: ፪። ኢሳ፫: ፲፱).

ቀጸወ/ qäṣäwe:

ቀጺመት/ qäṣimät:
(ታት። ዕብ ቅጺዓህ፤ ቃኔ። ዐረ ቀጸብ) Perfume; name of a perfume wood; inside a cavity; a type
of cane of Mecca. “ጽጌ ቀጺመት ወቀናንሞ” Flowers of qetsimet and cinnamon: (ስንክ: ነሐ፳፯። ዘፀ፴: ፳፫። ማሕ፬: ፲፬).
ቀጺር ሮት/ qäṣīr
rot: (ቀጸረ ይቀጽር ይቅጽር። ዐረ ቀጸረ። ዕብ ቃጻር፤ ዐጨደ፤ አነሰ) To enclose; to shorten; to fortify; to secure, to fortify; to build a
fence around a house or city; to surround; to take around. “ወቀጸሩ ላዕለ አህጉር” “And they fortified
against the regions: (ዮዲ፬: ፭). See ሐጸረ/ haseren. To make an
appointment; to set a day; to determine: (ዐማርኛ). See ዐደመ/ ademe.
ቀጺብ ቦት/ qäṣīb
bot: (ቀጸበ ይቀጽብ ይቅጽብ። ዐረ ቀጸበ። ዕብ ቃጻብ፤ ቈረጠ፤ ወሰነ) To wink; to open and close the eyes. To indicate; to call and point
with the eyes and hands; to bite the lip. (ተረት/ proverbs ) “ባይን
ጥቅሻ በከንፈር ንክሻ።” A wink with the eyes, a bite with the lip. “ይቀጽብ በዐይን።” He winks with the eyes. “ይቀጽብ በእዴሁ።” He points with his hands. “አንበስብሶ በቀራንበት ወቀጺብ በአዕይንት ዘእንበለ ኀፍረት።” He spread out in the
meeting place and winked with his eyes without shame. “ወቀጸባ ከመ ታምጽእ” And he winked to
bring: (ምሳ፮: ፲፫። ኪዳ። ፈ: መ: ፴፬: ፰። ገድ: ተክ). To resemble; to
narrate; to give an example. To hasten; to be quick; to mock, to ridicule.
ቀጺዕ ዖት/ qäṣiʿ
ot: (ቀጽዐ ይቀጽዕ ይቅጻዕ። ዕብ ቃጻዕ። ዐረ ቀጠዐ) To cut, to punish; to
measure and cut, to bend; to fold, to refine; to bow down; to trouble. Of
shoes, of parchment, of a case, of clothes; of a waist, of a bow. “እለ ይቀጽዑ ቀሚሰ።” Those who cut a shirt. “ቀጽዕዋ ለነፍስየ።” They punished my soul. “ይቀጽዕ ኵሎ ሐቌ” He bends every waist. “ያደነግፁ ልበ ወይቀጽዑ ከመ ማሕምም” They terrify the
heart and bend like a sick person: (ገድ: አዳ። መዝ: ፶፮። ናሖ፪: ፲። ሢራ፴፩: ፭). To know; to act knowingly, to punish; to
arrange, to adjust, to sweep, to compress; of a person, of a place, of a road. “አሠር ዘቀጻዕነ።” A trace that we
prepared. “ፍኖትየ ወአሠርየ አንተ ቀጻዕከ።” You prepared my path
and my trace. “ወቀጻዕክዋ በጾም ለነፍስየ” And I punished her
with fasting for my soul: (ኢዮ፭: ፳፯። መዝ: ፻፴፰: ፷፰). Instead of saying ዘቀጻዕነ/ zeqetsane, it says ፈንታ ዘአቅጻዕነ/ zeaqtsane; it is a
mistake. Those who know also interpret it as a story we told.
ቀፂው ዎት/ qäṣiw
wot: (ቀፀወ ይቀፁ ይቅፁ። ዕብ ቃጻህ፤ ቈረጠ ለየ) To roast, to make
bitter; to boil, to bubble.
ቀጻሪ/ qäṣāri:
(ሪት ርያን ያት፤ ጸርት) One who encloses, one who appoints, an
appointer; a fence builder.
ቀጻዕ ቀጻ/ qäṣāʿ
qäṣa: (ብ ቀጻት) Moth; one who is
punished and burned by his own will; one who receives punishment; later, an
image of the resurrection of the dead who rises again. “ዖፍ ዘይሰመይ ቀጻ” A bird called qetsa: (ሃይ: አበ: ኤጲ).
ቀጻጴ/ qäṣäṭe:
(ቀጻቢ፤ ቀጸበ) Beetle; weevil; ant; a type of insect: (አዋል).
ቀጽቀጸ/ qäṣəqäṣe:
(ቀጥቀጠ) He crushed, he
ground, he crumbled; he stirred; he trembled; he shook, of sickness, of sorrow,
of fear. “በእንተ ዝንቱ ይቀጸቅጸኒ ሐቌየ” Because of this, my waist trembles: (ኢሳ፳፩: ፫).
ቀጽበ/ qäṣəbe:
(ትግ። ዕብ ቃጸፍ) He got angry; he
was furious; he raged, he went mad; he was furious; he became fire.
ቀፈር ቅፍር/ qäfär
qəfrə: Argument; split; splinter;
entrance of a beam, joint of wood. “ቀፈረ ሐጽ።” He split a rock. “ቀፈረ ዐምድ” He split a pillar: (ማር፲: ፳፭። ዘፀ፳፮: ፳፬).
ቀፈት/ qäfät [1]:
Shoulder stiffness; study; dryness; cruelty; arrogance, stubbornness. “ቀፈቶሙ አጸኒኖሙ።” They strengthened their stiffness. “ይወዲ ርእሶ ዲበ ብረኪሁ ወያደንን ቀፈቶ ወያቴሕት ኅሊናሁ።” He throws his head on his knees and
hardens his stiffness and humbles his mind. “ኢያትሐትከ ቀፈተ ልብከ።” You did not humble the stiffness of
your heart. “ቀፈተ ልብ ዘሥጋ” Stiffness of the
heart of the flesh: (ቄር። ቄድር። መቃ። ቅዳ).

ቀፈዋት/ qäfäwāt:
Hives. ክልኤ ቀፈዋተ/ Two hives: (ገድ: ተክ).
ቀፊል ሎት/ qäfil
lot: (ቀፈለ ይቀፍል ይቅፍል። ዕብ ቃፋል) To fold, to double; to
make double; to wrap; to dress, to cover; to twist, to decorate. “በዐረብ ግን ቀፈለ ብሎ ቈለፈ ዘጋ ያሰኛል።” But in Arabic, qefele
means he locked, he closed. “ከመ ብሩረ ተምያን ዘቀፈልዎ ላዕለ ንዋየ ለብሓ።” Like silver ornaments that they folded
over the vessels of the house. “ዘቀፈሎን በብሩር።” Those whom they covered with silver. “ቀፊልየ በዐረር” My folding with a curse: (ምሳ፳፮: ፳፫። ዘፀ፴፰: ፲፱። ድር: ሚካ).
ቀፊር ሮት/ qäfīr
rot: (ቀፈረ ይቀፍር ይቅፍር) To dig, to excavate; to split; to
bore; of earth, of wood; of bow, of scale. To dig, to carve; to milk, to
support; of ear, of arrow, of gun. To inquire, to examine; to seek prophecy; from
a prophet, from a priest.
ቀፊጽ ጾት/ qäfiṣ
ṣot: (ቀፈጸ ይቀፍጽ ይቅፍጽ። ዕብ ቃፋጽ፤ ቀነጸ) To reveal; to open; to expose; to uncover.
See qelan; it is a synonym of this. “ቀፈጽኪ አቍያጸኪ።” You revealed your breasts. “ቀፈጽኪ ኀፍረተኪ።” You revealed your shame. “መኑ ይቀፍጽ ግልባቤ ገጹ።” Who can uncover the covering of his face. “ይቀፍጾን እግዚ አልባሲሆን” The Lord will uncover
their clothes: (ሕዝ፲፮: ፳፭: ፴፮። ኢዮ፵፬: ፬። ኢሳ፫: ፲፯).
ቀፊፍ/ qäfīf: (ቀፈ ዐረብ። ሱር ቃፊፍ። ዕብ ቃፋእ) To solidify; to be
firm; to become like bread and stone; of liquid things; like wax, frost, and
the like. To be harsh, to have a heart of stone; to not have mercy, to not have
pity; to thicken, to become big, to be arrogant. to trim, to adjust. (ዐማርኛ).
ቀፋዲት/ qäfādīt:
(ጽር ኻፉሪ። ዕብ ክፎሬይ) Sprinkler; sprinkling
of water, of holy water. See ነዝሀ/ nezha and ዘረቀ/ zereqe: (፩ዕዝ: ፰: ፳፯). Those who know say it is a bowl, a cup.
ቀፋጺ/ qäfāṣi:
(ጺት ጽያን ያት) One who reveals; a
revealer, a pusher.
ቀፎ/ qäfo: (ዐረ ቁፈት። ዕብ ቁፋህ) Basket, container,
service; cover. a bees house; a box with two openings; or a pit; a hollow, a
cover; not made by man; a place on a rock, a tree. “ቀፎ ዘመዓር” Hive of honey: (፩ነገ: ፲፬: ፳፭).
ቁላቤ/ quläbe:
Deception; trickery; deceit, trick; hypocrisy; nonsense, frivolity. “እፌኑ ላዕሌሆሙ ቁላቤ አፍ” I will send upon them
a deceiving mouth: (ፍካ: እየ).
ቍልሕ/ qʷəlḥ: (ሐት) Bud; swollen bud; flower bud, cotton bud; pregnant
swelling; not yet bloomed, not burst; swollen, bloated; budding; or beginning
to bloom, to burst: (መክ፲፪: ፭። አርጋ: ፮).
: Testicles; scrotum; the lower part; the testicles; the
sign of manhood. See እስኪት/ iskitin. And it descends upon the iskitin and the
testicles: (አረጋ: ድ፯).
: Descent; downward slope, descent. a slope, a steep place;
when going up, it is called a hill, an ascent.
: Downward to the ground; downward; bent over, upside down.
“ተሰቅለ ልዑለ አገሪሁ ወቍልቍሊተ ድማኁ።” He was hung upside down above the air. “ተሰቅለ ልዑለ አገሪሁ ወቍልቍሊተ ድማኁ።” He was hung high above
his land and his darkness upside down. “ወአስተብቍዖሙ ከመ ይስቅልዎ ቍልቍሊተ” And they begged him to
hang him upside down: (ገድ: ተክ። ስንክ: መጋ፲፬። ሐም፭። ጥቅ፲).

ቍልቍል/ qʷəlqʷəl:
(ላን ላት ቍልት) That went down; that
was descended; that is downward; that is upside down; downward. “ማይ ኢይውሕዝ ቍልቁለ፤ አላ ዐቀበ” Water does not flow
downward, but upward: (ፍካሬ: እየ).
ቍልቋስ/ qʷəlqʷās:
Name of a tree; that grows by the waters edge; its fruit is edible; thorny;
milky; that ripens quickly like a qulqal; that takes root. “ረከቡ በውእቱ መካን ማየ ጽሩየ፤ እንዘ የዐውዶ ቍልቋስ” They found in that place pure water; while
qulqas surrounded it: (ስንክ: ኅዳ፲፯).
ቍልዔ/ Q’ul’ee: (ዕብ ቁላእ፤ ቀላል፤ ታናሽ። ናዐር) House child; boy; child
of the house; born from the family; young boy; young youth; servant, servant,
attendant; quick, agile; lightfooted. “ወሀቦ ለቍልዔሁ ወአፍጠነ ገቢሮቶ።” And he gave it to his
servant and hastened his deeds. “ረድ አንተ ወቍልዔከ።” Go you and your servant.
“ናሁ ቍልዔየ ዘኀረይኩ።” Behold my servant whom I have chosen. “ወተወክፎ ለእስራኤል ቍልዔዕሁ” And he took Israel his
servant: (ዘፍ፲፰: ፯። መሳ፯: ፲። ኢሳ፵፪: ፩። ሉቃ፩: ፶፬).
ቍልዔት/ Q’ul’eet: (ብ ቍልዕያት) Maidservant; female
servant. “አመትከ ወቍልዔትከ።” Your maidservant and your servant. “እወፅእ አነ ምስለ ቍልዔትየ” I will go out with my
maidservant: (፩ነገ: ፳፭: ፵፩። ዮዲ፰: ፴፫። ፲: ፲).
ቍልዕውና/ Q’ul’ewina: Boyhood; house child
status; favor status: (አርጋ).
ቍልዝ/ Q’ul’ewina: (ዛት) Shrub; bush; thicket.
ቍልዝም/ Q’ulzum: Name of a country; in
Syria. “ሚልኪ ቍልዝማዊ” Milki of Qulzim: (ስንክ).
ቍልፈት/ Q’ulfet: (ታት) locking arrangement; lock;
lock status. Locks; lock, obstacle; covering of souls; covering of night. “ቍልፈተ ነፍስቶሙ።” The locking of their
souls. “ግዝረትከ ቍልፈተ ትከውነከ” Your circumcision becomes a lock for you: (ፈ: መ: ፲፯: ፯። ፍ: ነ: ፵፱).
ቍልፍ/ Q’ulf: (Fat) lock; that has no
opener. “እለ ያርኅዉ ቍልፈ ጸኒሖሙ ጊዜ የሐውር በዓለ ቤት ቀቲሮ ወነሢጎ።” Those who open a lock when the householder is away,
having hired and taken. “እለ ይሰብሩ ቍልፋተ” Those who break locks: (ፈ: መ: ፲፯: ፯። ፍ: ነ: ፵፱).
ቁመት/ Qumet: Standing; posture; straight;
length; height; length. “ተዘከር ቁሙትየ ቅድሜከ።” Remember my standing before you. “ወይትሀጐል ቁመቶሙ በምንዳቤ” And their height is
diminished by misery: (ኤር፲፰። ኩፋ: ፳፫). Duration; life; strength;
difference. “እለ ይከውኑ ውስተ ቁመት ፍጽምት።” Those who are in perfect duration. “ሥርዐተ ቁመተ ዓለም።” The order of the worlds
duration. “ቁመት ወሕርመት” Height and beauty: (ፊልክ: ፵፭። ጥበ፯: ፲፯። ቀሌ).
ቁማስ/ Qumas: (ዐረ ቁማሽ) Cloth; fabric; bundle
of clothes. “ቁማስ ቀራቢብ” Qumas qararib: (ፍ: ነ: ፴፫: ፭).
ቁማር/ Qumar: This also; a type of
game; that has profit and loss.
ቁምስና/ Qumsina: ቆሞስ/ Komos status; being a ቆሞስ/ Komos; the rank of a ቆሞስ/ Komos.
ቍሱል/ Q’usul: (ላን ላት ስልት) Wounded; touched; touch;
wound; blow. “ቍሱላነ ልብ” Wounded of heart: (ኢሳ፶፯: ፲፭። ፷፩: ፩).
ቍስለት/ Q’uslet: Wounding; wounding
process; wound status. “ድካም፤ ሐዘን፤ ጭቅጭቅ” Fatigue; sorrow; trouble:
(ዐማርኛ).
ቍስል/ Q’usl: (ላት፤ ቍሰል) touched body; sickness
where a rod has rested; beating, wounding; suffering; grudge; sorrow; sin. “ከመ ይትፈወስ እምቍስል ዘአቍሰልዎ።” That he may be healed
from the wound they wounded him. “ቍስለ ሕዝቡ።” The wound of his people. “እመ ቦ ቍስል ከመ ቍስልየ።” If there is a wound like my wound. “ቍስለ ሞት” Wound of death; (የሚገድል፤ ለሞት የሚያበቃ). “እመ ቦ ቍስል ከመ ቍስልየ።” From all wounds, the wound of the heart is the worst. “ወቍስለ አማዑት” And wound of the bowels: (፪ዜና: ፳፪: ፮። ኢሳ፴: ፳፮። ሰቈ፩: ፲፪። ራእ፲፫: ፫። ሢራ፳፭: ፲፫። ፍ: ነ: ፶).
ቍስጥ/ Q’ust’: (ዐረ ቁስጥ። ዕብ ቆሽጥ) Perfume; name of a
perfume. Poets call it qebercho. “ዝክረ ስምኪ ሐዋዝ እምነ ከልበኔ ወቍስጥ ወእምነ ሰንበልት ምዑዝ” The memory of your name
is sweeter than calamus and costus and sweet nard: (ደራሲ).
ቍረት/ Q’uret: freezing; cooling; cooling
down; chilling. Coldness; cold; frost. “ቍረተ ቱሳሔ ዘርዕ።” Cooling of seed scattering. “ቍረተ ሥጋሁ ኢያጥፍኦ ለእሳተ መለኮቱ።” The coldness of his flesh did not extinguish the fire of
his divinity. “ቍረተ ኅሊና” Coldness of the mind: (ፈ: መ: ፲፪: ፭። ያዕ: ዘእል። አርጋ: ፪).
ቍር/ Q’ur [1]: cold; frost; coldness. “ይመውት በቍር።” He dies from cold. “ይርዕዱ በእንተ ቍር፤ እስመ ክረምት ውእቱ።” They tremble because of
the cold; because it is winter. “ቍር ወበረድ።” Cold and hail. “እስመ ብዙኅ ቍራ ለይእቲ ሌሊት” Because it was very cold
that night: (ኢዮ፴፩: ፲፰። ፩ዕዝ: ፱: ፮። ዘካ፲፬: ፮። ዮሐ፲፰: ፲፰).

ቍርቁር/ Q’urq’ur: Distressed; saddened,
angry, wrathful.
ቍርቍር/ Q’urq’ur: Mourning, grief; anger,
irritation; argument, dispute; shouting, slaughter. ኢኀፊር፤ ካሕድ፤ ቍርቍር/ Shameless; apostate; quarreling;
wrath; turmoil: (ኪዳ).
ቍርበት/ Q’urbet: (ዐማርኛ) skin; garment of flesh;
that gathers and holds the flesh with its bones and tendons.
ቍርባን/ Q’urban: (ናት። ዕብ ቆርባን። ሱር ቁርባና። ዐረ ቁርባን) spiritual gift; vow; sacrifice;
offering; money offered to God; anything. See the meaning of sacrifice. “መሥዋዕተ ወቍርባነ ኢፈቀድኩ።” I did not desire
sacrifice and offering. “አምጽኡ ቍርባኖሙ ቅድመ ምሥዋዕ።” Bring their offerings before the altar. “መንፈቁ ለዲድርክም ቍርባን ለእግዚ” Half of a didrachma is an offering to God: (መዝ: ፴፬። ዘኍ: ፲። ዘፀ፴: ፲፫: ፲፬).
፡ Sacrifice of the gospel;
fine wheat and wine; with no addition except water; that has a deep, profound,
subtle mystery in its offering. About the order of offering. “አኰቴተ ቍርባን።” Praise of offering. “አርአዮሙ ሥርዐተ ምስጢር ዘቍርባን።” They showed them the
order of the mystery of the offering. “አንቀጽ በአንተ ቍርባን፤ ወኢያዕርጉ ላዕለ ምሥዋዕ ዘእንበለ ኅብስተ ሥርናይ ንጹሕ ወማየ ወይን ንጹሕ” Article about the
offering; and they do not offer on the altar except pure wheat bread and pure
wine water: (ኪዳ። ቅዳ። ፍ: ነ: ፲፫).
ቍርኣን/ Q’uran: Book of law; written by
Muhammad for his people; that Muslims who believe in him as a prophet and
apostle say descended from heaven. Its meaning is reading, recitation; but its
main name is ፉርቃን/ Furqan; see ፈረቀ/ fereqe.
ቍርእ/ Q’ur’i: ቍር፤ –ቍርዕ/ qur; qure.
ቍርዕ/ Q’ur’i: (ዓት) Helmet; helmet; iron
cap; gear: (አዋል).
ቍናማት/ Q’unamat: Qunamat; qunamatoch; sheep
and goat skins.
ቍናምት/ Q’unamit: (ዐረ ቀነም፤ በግ መንጋ) basket, pocket, bag,
container; waist bag; small bag. But the book says qunamat instead of qunamt,
the singular in plural. “አሐዱ ቍናማት ይኩን ለኵልነ።” One qunamat should be for all of us. “አእባነ ቍናማት።” Stones of qunamat. “ኀተምከ ውስተ ቍናማቲከ ጌጋይየ” You sealed my transgression in your qunamat: (ምሳ፩: ፲፬። ፲፮: ፲፩። ኢዮ፲፬: ፲፯).
ቍንቍኔ/ Q’unq’une: Qunqun; moth; stem of
nettle; blight; worm; insect; pest of plants, grains, and clothes. “ፃፄ ወቍንቍኔ።” Moths and insects. “ከመ ብላዐ ቍንቍኔ።” As a moth devours. “ልብስ ዘተበልዐ እምቍንቍኔ” Clothes eaten by insects: (ኢሳ፶፩: ፰። ማቴ፰: ፲፱። መ: ፈ).
፡ Tick; chicken lice; that resembles
teff.
ቍንዝዕ/ Q’unzi’: Thorn; splinter. Pain; feeling
of a rod, of a wound. Spike; thorn. Its root and origin is ነዝዐ neza.
ቍንዝዕት/ Q’unzi’t: Thorn; thorn; spiked; a
girl who is snatched like a hyena. See ነዝዐ/ neza.
ቍንጽ/ Q’unts’: (ጻት) Flea; jumping insect; one
that leaps: (፩ነገ: ፳፬: ፲፭).
: Quntso; of a house, of a person: (ዐማርኛ).
ቍንጽል/ Q’unts’il: (ዕብ ሹዓል) Fox; or; wolf; predatory
desert dog, evil, cunning, image of nobles and demons. Foxes and wolves are similar
to white and black monkeys, they are relatives; just as the white is worse than
the black monkey, so is the wolf worse than the fox. Since their kind and
nature are the same, quntsil is used instead of wolf. “ሑሩ በልዋ ለዛቲ ቍንጽል።” Go and tell that fox. “ይበውእኑ አንበሳ ውስተ ግበ ቍንጽል አው ቍንጽል ኀበ አንበሳ።” Can a lion enter a wolfs
den, or a wolf a lions. “ሰይጣንሰ ቍንጽል ጓሕላዊ” Satan is a wolfish fox: (ሉቃ፲፫: ፴፫። አዋል። ቄድር).
ቍየጽ አቍያጽ/ Quyyats Aquyats: Thighs. His thighs are
pillars. “ቍየጺሁ አዕማድ።” He struck upon his thigh. “አልባሰ አቍያጽ።” Garments of the thighs. “ቆፈጽኪ አቍያጸኪ” You revealed your thighs:
(ማሕ፭: ፲፭። ዮሴፍ። ዳን፫: ፳፳፩። ሕዝ፲፮: ፳፭).
ቍይጽ ቍጽ/ Quyts Quts: (ሱር ሹቃ። ዕብ ሾቅ። ዐረ ሳቅ) thigh; the part from
the knee to the hip. “ወሰበሩ ቍይጾ ለቀዳማዊ” And they broke the thighs of the first: (ዮሐ፲፱: ፴፪).
ቍድስ/ Qiddus: (ዐረብ) Temple; place of the
temple; Jerusalem.” ሀገረ ቍድስ” City of Quds: (ዮሴፍ).
ቍጠጥ/ Qutt'uht': Thinness; slenderness; thinness;
slender waist. “ቅጠንየ ባለው ቍጠጥየ ይገዝፍ እምሐቌ አቡየ እንዲል” My little finger is thicker than my fathers waist, as it
says: (፫ነገ: ፲፪: ፲). But those who know say
it is the thumb.
ቍጡዕ/ Qutt'uh': (ዓን ዓት ጥዕት) Angry; wrathful; irritable;
furious. “ብእሲ ቍጡዕ ለእመ አንሥአሂ ምዉተ ኢትእመንዎ” A wrathful man, even
if he raises the dead, do not believe him: (ፊልክ: ፻፵፭። ምሳ፳፯: ፬).
ቍጣጥ/ Qutt'at': Young of a young animal; small creature; infant;
small creature.
ቍጥ/ Qut': splinter; ankle; thorn; small insect; that
has a splinter in its small insect state. “ወረገዞ በቍጠ ኲናቱ” And he struck him with his thorn: (፪ነገ: ፪: ፳፫).
ቍጥን/ Qut'n: (ዐረ ቁጥን) Cotton; that is spun
when spun. See ጡጥ/ tutin and ጥጥ/ titin. “ጠብለላ በቍጥን ወበአልባስ ንጹሕ” Turban with cotton and
clean clothes: (ስንክ: መስ፲). But poets call it ግምጃ/ gimja.
ቍጥዓ/ Qut'a: Anger; irritation; fury; madness. “ዕለተ መዐት ወቍጥዓ።” Day of wrath and anger. “መዐትኒ ወቍጥዓ ርኩሳን እሙንቱ።” Wrath and anger are unclean. “በእንተ መዐት ወቍጥዓ” About wrath and anger:
(ኩፋ: ፳፬። ሢራ፳፯: ፴። ፈ: መ: ፳፩).
ቍጹል/ Qut'sul: (ላን ላት ጽልት) Bushy; leafy; that
has leaves. “ቈጽለ ዕፅ ቍጹል ለገቢረ ምጽላል” Leaf of a bushy tree for making a shade: (ነሐ፰: ፲፭).
ቍጹር/ Qut'sur: (ራን ራት ጽርት) Tied; knotted; intricate.
“ቍጹር ውስተ አሥዋክ።” Tied in thorns. “እንተ ቍጽርት ውስቴታ።” That which is tied
within it. “ቍጹረ ገጽ” Knotted face: (ፊልክ: ፻፲፯። ክብ: ነገ። ገድ: አዳ).
ቍጽረት/ Qut's'rat': Tying; binding; counting;
imprisonment; counting; intricacy, joint. On the seventh of Nehasse, its
binding. “መካነ ቍጽረቱ።” The place of its binding. “ቍጽረቱ ከመ እብነ ኰኵሕ።” Its binding is like a rock. “ቍጽረተ ዐራዙ” The binding of its belts: (አዋል። ኢዮ፵፩: ፯። ዘፀ፳፰: ፴፭).
ቍጽር/ Qut's'ur: (ራት) number. Imprisonment;
beating; whip, lash; lung inflammation; evil counsel; deceit, cunning. “ኢታጽንፁ ቍጽረክሙ።” Do not strengthen your bonds. “እለ ይጸብእዎ በቍጽር።” Those who fight him with bonds. “ይመክሩ በቍጽር ያመንስዉኒ” They counsel with
bonds and deceive me: (ኢሳ፳፰: ፳፪። ፴: ፴፪። መዝ: ፴፬። ፴፯).
ቍጽሮ/ Qut's'ro: Embroidery; needlework. “መልበስተ ቍጽሮ” Garment of embroidery: (ዘፀ፳፰: ፬).
: Knot; bundle; tied bundle of grass, of leaves, torch. ቍጣሮ አቍጣሮ/ Qutaro aqutaro; prayer
of counting.
ቂሐት/ Keehat': Redness; reddening; redness; red color. “እንበይነ ቂሐተ ደሞሙ።” Except for the
redness of their blood. “ቂሐተ ተምር ወጽዕዳዌ ፀምር ዘእምፍጥረቶሙ ውእቱ ወአኮ ዘተሤረዩ” Redness of dates and whiteness of
wool, which is from their nature and not what they made: (መጽ: ምስ። አፈ: ተ፲፪).
ቂላኖስ/ Keelanos: (ጽር ፌሎኒስ። ዐረ ፊ ቂ) Precious garment; that is worn over. See
phelon; it is the same as this; because the Arabs added a second dot to fe and
said qe; therefore it says qilanos. “ኹለተኛም በቂላኖስ ፈንታ ሄላንሳን ይላል።” Secondly, instead of qilanos, it says
helansan. “ሰፍሐ ቂላኖሰ ዲበ ምድር፤ ወወረደት ጦማር ማእከለ ሄላንሳን” He spread a qilanos on the ground; and
a scroll descended between helansan: (ጦማ: ሃይ: አበ). But teachers call helansan a precious
carpet, serf welansa.
ቂም/ Qim:
evil thought;
wound of the heart. “ቂሙን ቀረፈብኝ እንዲሉ።” He removed his grudge from me, as they say. “አልቦ ዘየአኪ እምቂመ ጸላእት።” Nothing is worse than
the grudge of enemies. “ቂም ወቅንአት።” Grudge and jealousy. “ኩን ጻድቀ ወመሓሬ ዘእንበለ ጽልሑት ወቂም” Be righteous and
merciful without hypocrisy and grudge: (ሢራ፳፭: ፲፭። ቀሌ። ዲድ: ፮).
ቂሳርያ/ Qisarya:
Name
of a city; Caesarea; which Herod built near the sea in Palestine for the honor
of Caesar. His son Philip built another second city near Hermon and named it
Caesarea Philippi: (ግብ፲: ፩። ማር፰: ፳፯).
ቂራዲስ/ qīrādis: (ጽር ኪራዳስ። ዕብ ቂርሔሬስ) Name of a city; part of
Moab; one of the cities of Moab. “ዕደወ ቂራዲስ” The cities of Qiradis: (ኤር፵፰: ፴፩። ኢሳ፲፮: ፲፩).
ቂራጥ/ qīrāṭ: (ዐረብ። ጽር ኬራቲዎን) Name of a weight; small
measure; its weight is equal to four olive fruits or less. Name of money; small
money; 2 and a quarter coins; or only 2 coins. “ጸባሕት ላዕለ ኵሉ ክርስቲያን ለለ ቂራጥ በበ ዓመት።” A tax on all Christians,
per qirat per year. “ብእሲ ዘይወቅር አእባነ በቂራጠ ወርቅ ኵሎ ዕለተ።” A man who carves stones with a qirat of gold every day. “አስተዋፂኦሙ ዘበበ ክልኤቱ ቂራጥ” Their contribution was
two qirats each: (አቡሻ: ፶። ስንክ: ግን፰። ሠኔ፲፭).
ቂርቆስ/ qīrqos: Name of a person; martyr;
who entered the fire with his mother; see “አንጌቤንAngeben. “ቂርቆስ አንቆቅሖ ተሠርዐ ምስለ እሙ” Qirqos the infant was
arranged with his mother: (ቅኔ። ስንክ: ጥር፲፭። ሐም፲፱).
ቂቁይ/ qīquy: (ያን ያት ቅይት) stingy; miserly; greedy,
grasping. “አኀዙ ይዝክሩ መሓርያነ ወቂቁያነ” They remember the merciful and the greedy: (ስንክ: መስ፳፯) .
ቂቅየት/ qiqəyät:
To be stingy; to deny; stinginess, miserliness; stinginess: (ፈላስ).
ቃህም/ qāḥəm: Ant worker; ቃሕም/ qah.m.
ቃሕም/ qāḥəm: (ማት) Ant; ant worker; who collects and gathers
grain like a farmer. “ሑር ኀበ ቃሕም ኦ ሀካይ።” Go to the ant, you
sluggard. “ሑር ኀበ ቃሕም ኦ ሀካይ።” Let us see men like
ants and insects. “ዘጊበ መዛግብት ዘቃሕም ወተመይኖ ግብር ዘሣሬት።” The one who closes
the treasuries of the ant and prepares the work of the moth. “ትጋሆሙ ለፅብስት ንህብ ወሀካይ ቃሕም” We give their diligence to the bees, and the sluggard to the ants: (ምሳ፮: ፮። አፈ: ተ፲፮። ፈላስ። ስንክ: መስ፳፭).
: Handful; morsel; that is picked, that is eaten at once. “ኵሉ ይትኀጣእ እመ ኀሠሥዎ፤ እምነ ፍተ ቃሕም ኅብስት እስከ ነጥበ ማይ ቈሪር” Everything is despised
if sought; from a piece of ant bread to a drop of cold water: (ቅኔ).
: Qamo; millet; a type of millet fruit; that is eaten after
being roasted.
ቃሕዋ/ qāḥəwā:
(ዐረብ) Coffee; coffee bean; that stimulates
when roasted, ground, and brewed.
ቃሕው/ qāḥəw: (ዋት) Dispute; argument,
debate; quarrel; strife; contention; bet. “ቅንአት ወቃሕው ወሚን ወአፍቅሮ መዊእ።” Jealousy and dispute and hatred and
love of eating. “ፈጸምዋ ለዐመፃ በቃሕዎሙ።” They completed iniquity with their disputes. “ቃሕወ ገብረ ምስለ” He made a dispute with: (ፊልክ: ፶፮። ዘፍ፵፱: ፭። አርጋ: ፬).
ቃሊ/ qāli: (ትግሬ ወዐረብ) Precious, valuable; goods that cannot be
found at a cheap price.
ቃል/ Qal
[1]: (ላት። ዕብ ቆል። ሱር ቃላ። ዐረ ቃል፤ ቀውል) subject matter; sound; cry;
voice; speech; word; that is heard from the mouth of the speaker and the
hearer. “መጽአ ቃል እምሰማይ።” A word came from heaven. “አንሥኡ ቃለክሙ።” Raise your voice. “ቃለ ወሀቡ ደመናት፤ ቃለ ነጐድጓድከ በሠረገላት።” The clouds gave a voice;
the voice of your thunder in the chariots. “ቃል ተሰምዐ በራማ” A word was heard in
Ramah: (ዳን፬: ፳፰። ኢሳ፲፫: ፪። መዝ: ፸፯። ኤር፴፰: ፲፭).
: Law; commandment; teaching; proclamation. “ኢይትገሐሡ እምነ ቃሉ።” They shall not deviate
from the word. “ዐሥሩ ቃላት።” Ten words. “ቃላተ እግዚእነ” The words of our Lord: (ሢራ፲፮: ፳፰። ዘፀ፴፬: ፳፰። ዘዳ፬: ፲፫። ፊልክ: ፫).
: Name of a person; divine person; Son. “ወለዝንቱ ስም ዘውእቱ ቃል ንሌብዎ እምሠለስቱ ቃላት፤ አተርጋን ብርፎሪኮን አአትሪኮን።” And for this name which
is word, we understand it from three words; atergan birforikon aatrikon. “ወኢታምስልዎ ለዝ ቃል ከመ ቃላት እለ ዘከርናሙ ዘእንበለ ህላዌ ወአካል።” And do not liken this
word to the words we mentioned without existence and person. “ቃል ዘኮነ ሥጋ በአካሱ” The word that became
flesh in his person: (ሃይ: አበ: ጎር። ብንያ).

ቃማ/ qāma: (ሱር ምኒካ። ዕብ ርቢድ) Braided; spread; gold
and silver beads, marda, necklace; neck ornament, award; see bazigna; it is the
same as this; qama shows its fruitfulness, bazigna shows its spreading. “ሰላም ለክሣድኪ ቃማ ንጽሕ ዘዐነቀ።” Peace to your neck, pure qama that is
adorned. “አስኬማ አምሳለ ባዝግና ወቃማ” Aschema, an example
of bazigna and qama: (ደራሲ። ዳን፭: ፲፮: ፳፱).
ቃስ/ qās: (ዐረ ቂያስ፤ ልክ፤ መለኪያ) Body; body garment; trousers,
shirt; suitable; sewn to measure; that is neither long nor short; fine garment.
“ልብሰ ቃስ” Garment of qas: (ዘፀ፴፮: ፴፬። ዘሌ፲፮: ፬).
: Outer garment; robe, cloak. “ዘይትሞጣሕ ቃሰ።” That moves around in a
qas. “አስኬማ፤ ልብሰ ቃስ አኮ ለአሮን ሰርጐ ዘባኑ” Aschema; garment of ቃስ/ qas, not Aarons, his
back is striped: (ደራሲ).
ቃሩራ/ qārurā: (ዐረ ቃሩረት። ትግ ቈራረት) glass; bottle; a
type of glass vessel; its work is cold water; honor, excellence; yaidole: (ዮሴፍ).
ቃር/ qār: (ዐረ ቂር፤ ቃር) Resin; tree blood. “ቃር ወፒሳ ወተይ” Qar and pitch and tar: (ስንክ: ሐም፭).
ቃርሐ/ qārḥä: (ዲቃ ግ) He set on fire; he shot; he boiled: (ዐማርኛ).
ቃርሕ ቃር/ qārḥ qār: Burning sensation; food intolerance.
ቃቂል/ qāqīl: Qaqil; bell; small bell. Its root is ቀዊል/ qawil.
ቃቄር/ qāqēr: (ራት። ዕብ ቁርቁር) Frog; worm, insect; that
croaks and chatters at night. “ወይነቅዉ ከመ ቃቄራት” And they croak like
frogs: (ገድ: ተክ).
ቃቡ/ qābu[1]: Dry measure; ቀበወ/ qebewe.
[2]: (ጽር ካቡ። ዕብ ቃብ) Name of a measure; small measure; dry measure; small
measure; small measure. 18th part of an ephah. “ሀሎ ውስተ አስፈሬዳ ኅዳጥ ሥርናይ ዘየአክል መጠነ መስፈርተ ቃቡ።” There was in the granary
a small amount of wheat that was enough for the measure of a qabu. “ወራብዕተ አዴሃ ለመስፈርተ ቃቡ ኵስሐ ርግብ ኀምስቱ ብሩር” And a quarter of the
measure of a qabu, a doves dung, five silver: (ገድ: ተክ። ፬ነገ: ፮: ፳፭).
ቃባ/ qāba: Sheep disease that swells the neck: (ዐማርኛ).
ቃቤላ/ qābelā: Sorghum; grain of the stalk.
ቃነየ/ qānäye: (ዕብ ኒጌን) He played; he arranged; of a song, of a harp.
“ትቃኒ አውታሪሃ።” He plays his strings. “ኀበ አሳፍ ይቃኒ ወኀበ ደቂቀ ቆሬ ይሴብሑ” Where Asaph plays and where the sons
of Korah praise: (ናሖ፫: ፰። መጽ: ምስ). Qana
ቃና/ qānā[1]: Melody; sound; melody style; taste; arrangement;
arrangement. “አውታረ መሰንቆ ፍሉጥ ወሊሉየ ቃና።” Strings of a harp, known and melodious qana. “መስፍነ ትዕይንት፤ ቃና ወኢሥርዐት” Ruler of spectacle; melody and
irregularity: (ፈላስ። አፈ: ድ፴፬).

ቃዕደወ/ qāʿədäwe: (ዐደወ፤ ቀደወ። ዐረ ቀዐደ፤ ተቀመጠ) He looked across, he observed; he threw his eye afar; he moved; face to
face, side to side. ቀ/ Q came from ቀደወ/ qedewe and was added to ፀደወ/ tsedewe.
ቃውም/ qāwəm: (ምት ማን ማት) One who stands; leader;
advocate; father of the matter; or opponent; plaintiff, adversary. “አነ ቃእምከ ወዐስብከ ጥቀ።” I am your opponent and I considered you much. “ንጉሥ ልብው ቃውመ ሕዝብ” A kings heart is the
qawm of the people: (ኩፋ: ፲፬። ጥበ፮: ፳፮። አርጋ).
ቃይጽ/ qāyiṣ: (ዕብራ) Summer; month of
harvest; hot season.
ቃዲ/ qādi: (ዐረ ቃፂን። ዕብ ቃጺን) Judge; ruler; owner
of Fetha Negest; governor, ruler: (ዐማርኛ).
ቃዴስ/ qādes: (ዕብ ቃዴሽ) Sinai; Mount Sinai; Sinai desert; wilderness;
where the Lord sanctified Israel; and he was sanctified by the mouth of his
people; where he taught his sanctification for 40 years, saying, Be holy, for I
am holy. Its mystery means great and awesome; it also agrees with strong. “ወያድለቀልቆ እግዚ ለሐቅለ ቃዴስ” And the Lord will
make the field of Qades fertile: (መዝ: ፳፰).
ቃዴስም/ qädesəm: (ጽር ካዲሲም። ዕብ ቅዴሽም) Houses of idols; houses
of idols built in a holy place near the temple. Separate from Gods temple. “ወነሠተ አብያተ ቃዴስም” And he took down the
houses of qadesim: (፬ነገ: ፳፫: ፯).
ቃግስት/ qāgəstə: (Tat) Name of a snake; evil snake; viper; weevil.
“ትውልደ ቃግስት” Generation of qagist: (ኢሳ፲፬: ፳፱። ምሳ፳፫: ፴፪)።.
ቃፍ/ qāf[1]: (ዕብ ማጣራ) Shelter; aim; covering;

His mother died in childbirth; midwives cut open her stomach and took him out. “ሀቡ ዘቄሳር ለቄሳር።” Give to Caesar what is Caesars. “ወፅአ ትእዛዝ እምኀበ ቄሳር ንጉሥ።” A decree went out
from Caesar the king. “ኢኮንከ ዐርኮ ለቄሳር” You are not a friend
of Caesar: (ቀሌ። ሉቃ፳: ፳፭። ፪: ፩። ዮሐ፲፱: ፲፪).

Qir (ዓሞ፩: ፭። ፬ነገ: ፲፮: ፱). But those who know
read it as ቄረ ሕዝቦሙ / qere hizboch and say its meaning is mighty
nobles, young men. Scholars also say ቄርሎስ/ qerlos means mighty and cite this as evidence; it is a

ቄቅሐ/ qeqəḥa [1]: He cleaned; he made good; he washed, he
cleansed; he picked, he sifted; he threshed, he blew; of grain.

ቄቅዮ ዮት/ qeqəyo yot: Good thing; dirt, filth; chaff, that has no

ቄቅዮ ዮት/ Qeqiyo yot: (ቄቀየ ይቄቂ) To be stingy; to be
miserly; to be greedy; to deny, to refuse; to be frugal; to hold and grasp
money tightly. “ዘይቄቂ አውፅኦ እምንዋዩ ለዘይደሉ፤ ይሁብ ምክዕቢተ በከንቱ።” One who is stingy takes out from his property what is due;
he gives a reward in vain. “ዘይቄቂ ለርእሱ ይዘግብ ለባዕድ።” One who is stingy
gathers for himself for another. “ዘቦቱ ንዋይ ወይቄቂ” He who has property and
is stingy: (ፈላስ። ትእ: ጴጥ። አፈ: ተ፴፪).
ቄአ/ qeqəyo yot: He spat, he trimmed; ቀዪእ/ qeyi.
ቄዐ/ qeʿä: He spat, he trimmed; ቀዪእ ቄአ/ qeyi qea.
ቄዳር/ qedār: Name of a tribe; Arabian; second son of
Ishmael; nomad, father of nomads: (ዘፍ፳፭: ፲፬። መዝ: ፻፲፱። ማሕ፩: ፭).
ቄዳርስ/ qedārs: (ጽር ኪዳሪስ) Black cap; turban; winding, turban; of
priests: (ዘፀ፴፮: ፴፬። ዘሌ፰: ፲፫። ፲፮: ፬). Instead of ቄዳርስ/ qedars, it says ቄድራን/ qedran: (ሢራ፵፭: ፲፪).
ቄዴም/ qedem: (ዕብራ) Before; east. “ደቂቀ ቄዴም” Children of Qedem: (ሕዝ፳፬: ፬).
ቄድር/ qedr: (ዐረ ቀድር፤ እድፍ ርኵስ) Baptism of John; baptism
of repentance. “መጽሐፈ ቄድር ዘአንበሩ መምህራን በእንተ ዘክሕደ ሃይማኖቶ፤ አው አርኰሰ ሥጋሁ ምስለ ዘኢምእመናን አው ተባዕት አው አንስት፤ አው መነኮስ አው መነኮሳይት።” Book of Qedir which
teachers established for those who denied their faith; or defiled their bodies
with unbelievers, male or female; or monk or nun.
ቄድሮስ/ qedəros [1]: (ጽር ኬድሮስ። ዕብ ኤሬዝ) Arze; name of Arze; Lebanese
tree; thick, long; great, excellent; glorious, with many branches. Those who
know the old texts, call it Wanza. “ኅሩይ ከመ ቄድሮስ” "Chosen from Cedars”
(ማሕ፭: ፲፭። ፰: ፱። ሢራ፳፬: ፲፫። ፫ነገ: ፭: ፱። ፮: ፲፫). In place of ቄድሮስ/ Qedros, it says ቄዳር/ Qedar, which is an error. “ቄዳር ዘስሙ ዐርቦት” Qedar, whose name is Arbot (ኩፋ: ፳፩).
[2]: (ጽር ኬድሮን። ዕብ ቂድሮን) Place name; a valley between the Mount of Olives and Jerusalem;
a place with trees, olives, and gardens; where the sun does not reach quickly,
and if it does, it passes quickly. “መካነ ጽልመት ወጽላሎት” A place of darkness and
shadow; shady, meaning dark. “ፈለገ ቄድሮስ።” River Qedros. “ማዕዶተ ቄድሮስ ፈለገ አርዝ” Crossing of Qedros,
River Arze (፪ነገ: ፳፫: ፮። ዮሐ፲፰: ፩). Saying ቄድሮስ/ Qedros instead of ቄድሮን/ Qedron is a scribal
error.
ቄጵርስስ/ qepərsəs: (ጽር ኪፓሪሶስ። ዕብ ብሮሽ) A tree name; juniper;
a type of juniper wood; its trunk is white, resembling a dove. “ቄጵርስስ ወኵሉ ዕፀወ ገዳም” Cypress and all the trees of the wilderness: (ኩፋ: ፲፫። ሕዝ፳፯: ፭። ፴፩: ፰).
ቄጼሩት/ qeṣerut: (ዕብ ቅጹሮት) Shorts; small ones; narrow
ones: (ሕዝ፵፪: ፭).
ቄፋዝ/ qefāz: (ጽር ኬፋዝ። ዕብ ፋዝ) Fine gold; the gold
of Uphaz; coming from a land called Uphaz. See ፎዘን/ Phoze and አፌዝ/ Aphez. “ርእሱ ወርቀ ቄፋዝ” Its head was gold of
Kephaz: (ማሕ፭: ፲፩).
[2]: (ጽር ኬፋዝ) Aphez; fine gold; refined gold. “ርእሱ ወርቀ ቄፋዝ” Its head was gold of Kephaz: (ማሕ፭: ፲፩). See ፎዘ/ Phoze.
ቈሀልት/ qo፟ḥältə: (ዕብ ቈሄሌት) Speaker of the assembly; one who
speaks about the assembly in the assembly; Solomon; the second part of Solomons
book, Ecclesiastes: (ፍ: ነ: ፪).
ቈሊፍ ፎት/ qo፟līf fot: (ቈለፈ ይቈልፍ ይቍልፍ። ሱር ቅላፍ። ዕብ ቃላፍ። ዐረ ቀለፈ) To strip; to peel; to
slip; to shave; to scrape; to rub; to extract; to take out the inside: To lock;
to close; to seal; to nod off.
ቈላ/ qo፟lā: (ብ ቈላት) Standing; hot; a place of heat; a hollow; a
valley; sunny and hot. “ቈላ ዕሙቅ።” A deep valley. “እስመ መካነ ብሔሩ ቈላ ውእቱ።” For the place of his land is a valley.
“ቈላተ ብካይ” Valleys of weeping: (ሔኖ። አዋል። መዝ: ፹፫).
ቈላዕይ ው/ qo፟lāʿəy wə:
Boys; household children. “The text says "ቍልዔያት” (ዮሴፍ).
ቈላፍ/ qo፟lāf: (ፋን ፋት) Locked; a lock; ቈላፋ. An uncircumcised covering, “ወኵሉ ቈላፍ ኢይብላዕ እምኔሁ።” And no uncircumcised person shall eat from it. “ዕልገተ ቈላፋን” The reproach of the uncircumcised: (ዘፀ፲፪: ፵፰። ፩ነገ: ፲፰: ፳፭).
ቈልቈለ/ qo፟lqʷäle: Inclined; cooled; prepared; followed; threw; of
war; of a javelin. “ሶበ ቈልቈለ ኵናቶ ላዕለ አህጉሪሆሙ” When he hurled his spear upon their
lands: (ሢራ፵፮: ፪). Instead of ቈልቈለ, it says አቈልቈለ, which is an error. “አስተጻንዐ መዝራዕቶ ወአቈልቈለ ኵናቶ ወረገዞ” He strengthened his
arms and hurled his spear and struck him: (ገድ: ተክ).
ቈልዞ ዞት/ qo፟lzo zot: (ቈለዘ ይቌልዝ ይቈልዝ) To cut; to crush; to shatter; to gather: (አርጋ: ፭).
ቈሲል ሎት/ qo፟sīl lot:
(ቈስለ ይቈስል ይቍሰል። ዕብ ካሻል ተሰናከለ) To wound; to touch; to
strike; to become wounded; by sickness, by rod, by work, by sorrow. “አነ ጠቢብ ወእፌውሶሙ ለድዉያን እለ ቈስሉ በደዌ።” I am wise and I heal
the sick who are wounded by disease. “ቈሰልኩ በቤተ ዐርክየ።” I was wounded in the
house of my friend. “ወናሁ አበዊነ ቈስሉ በኀጺን” And behold, our
fathers were wounded with iron: (ስንክ: ግን፳፮። ዘካ፲፫: ፮። ፪ዜና: ፳፱: ፱).
ቈስቈስ/ qo፟sqʷäs: (ብ ቈሳቍስ፤ ሳት) Household items; small things; broken splinters; those who turn away
from the door and eat from the kitchen; all things; by their names and types. “ኵሎ ንዋዮ ወቈስቈሶ ማህረኩ።” They captured all his belongings and his household items. “ወብዙኀ ቈሳቍሳተ።” And many household items. “ወቈሳቍሳቲሁኒ።” And also his
household items. “ወበህየ ርኢኩ ዕፀወ ኵነኔ ፈድፋደ ቈስቈሰ መዐዛ” And there I saw judgment trees with exceedingly pungent aroma: (መቃ። ገድ: ተክ። ዘፍ፴፩: ፲፰። ሔኖ፳፱: ፪). ቈሰቈሰ; ቀሰቀሰ (to stir up) comes from this. Since they are

(ዐረ ቁሻእ። ዕብ ቂሹእ) A type of gourd or
pumpkin; like yabore, yankolla, and shikna; oval; for stew; cooks quickly. “የሚበስል” That ripens: (ዘኍ፲፩: ፭). However, those who know food call it ቈሽት; dried figs.
ቈሥጤ/ qo፟ṣəṭe: (ዕብ ቄባህ) kidney; stomach: (ዘዳ፲፰: ፫).
ቈስጤ/ qo፟səṭe: Stomach; intestines – to scrape.
ቈረቈር/ qo፟räqʷär: white dandruff. (ተረት/ proverbs ) “በቡሓ ላይ ቈረቈር።” ቈረቈር/ dandruff on ቡሓ/ buha (a type of porridge).
ቈሪር/ qo፟rīr: (ራን ራት ራር) That which is
chilled; frozen; cold; frosty. “ነፋስ ቈሪር።” Cold wind. “ማይ ቈሪር።” Cold water. “ፀሓይ ጥዒና ቈሪራን አዝርዕት።” The sun of health chills the plants. “ቈራር ወሙስንት ምክር” Cold and corrupt counsel: (ሢራ፵፫: ፳። ምሳ፳፭: ፳፭። ስንክ: ሐም፲፪። ቄር: ጰላ).
ቈሪር ሮት/ qo፟rīr rot: (ቈረ ይቈርር ይቍርር። ዕብ ቃራር። ሱር ቃር። ዐረ ቀረ) To chill; to cool; to
freeze; to separate from heat; to become frosty and cold. And behold, “ወናሁ አብርሃም ቈረ ከመ በረድ” Abraham became as cold as ice: (ኩፋ: ፳፫). Instead of
"returned” or "finished,” it says "ቈረ,” which is a scribes error. “እስከ ይቈርር መዐተ እኍከ” Until the anger of
your brother cools: (ዘፍ፳፯: ፵፬። ኢዮ፲፬: ፲፫። ኢሳ፩: ፳፬። ፲: ፳፭).
ቈሪፍ/ qo፟rīf: (ዐማርኛ) Bigeared; one with
large ears; excessive. "ቀርፋፋ” and "ከርፋፋ” (slow, sluggish) come from this.
ቈርቍሮ ሮት/ qo፟rqʷəro rot: (ቈርቈረ ይቈረቍር ይቈርቍር። ዐረ ቀርቀረ። ዕብ ቃርቄር) To croak; to chirp; a
call; see ቃሕቅሐን. To shout, to scream.
"ቍርቍሩ” means the sound of a
chicken or a frog; see ቃቂር and ቈርነናዕ; its root is.
: to gnaw; to be uncomfortable; to cause sorrow, to
instigate. See the meaning of "ሐዘነ.” To establish; to begin; to straighten, to make; of a country or city (ዐማርኛ).
ቈርቈሮ/ qo፟rqʷəro: noisy; liquid.
ቈርነናዕ ናዓት/ qo፟rnänāʿ nāʿät: (ዕብ፤ ጽፋርዴዕ። ዐረ ፀፋዲዕ። ሱር ዑርድዓናያ) Frog; toad. It means
a noisy, hoarse, jumping creature; see ቃቄር. He brought up frogs”
ይቀይእ ተከዚ ቈርነናዓተ” (ዘፀ፰: ፪ –፲፫).
ቈርኔን/ qo፟rnenə: (ጽር ኮሪኒ። ዕብ ሐዳሻ) A new instrument; armor.
However, those who know weapons call it "ቋዝመን,” which is a small dagger carried by
warriors like a knife: (፪ነገ: ፳፩: ፲፮).
ቈቀወ/ qo፟qäwe: To squat (ዐማርኛ).
ቈቍዖ ዖት/ qo፟qʷəʿo ot: (ቈቍዐ ይቌቍዕ ይቈቍዕ። ዕብ ቃዕቄዕ፤ ወጋ በሳ ነቀለ) To rattle; to crack; of bones. To twist; to
bend; to peel and return; to bend and fold; to fit together; of hands and feet.
To wither, to dry up; to stick together; to weaken; to resemble a corpse; of
the body. “ይቌቍዕ ኵሉ አዕፅምቲሁ።” All his bones rattle.
“ቈቍዓ ወቈስላ አጻብዒሆሙ።” Their fingers were cracked and wounded. “እፎ ቈቍዐ በሐዊረ ኖት መከየደ እግርኪ።” How she was bent in the movement of
your feet. “ቈቍዐ ማእሶሙ ዲበ አዕፅምቲሆሙ” Their bones were
cracked upon their bones: (ኢዮ፴፫: ፲፱። ድር: መድ። ደራሲ። ሰቈ፬: ፰).
ቈናዝዓት/ qo፟näzʿät: Braids. “ኢትግበሩ ቈናዝዓት እምሥዕርተ ርእስክሙ” Do not make braids from the hair of your heads: (ፍ: ነ: ፵፭። ዘሌ፲፱: ፳፯).
ቈናዝዕ/ qo፟nāzəʿ: (ዐረ ቁዘዐት፤ ቁንዙዐት) Braid; hairdo; bundle, thread, rope, knot, tassel. Short, thick,
rounded; surrounding fringes. “ቈናዝዒሃ ፍቱል።” Untie her braids. “ሰብዑ ቈናዝዐ ርእስየ” Seven braids of my head: (ገድ: ተክ። መሳ፲፮: ፲፫).
ቈናዝዕት/ qo፟näzʿət: Young girls; virgins.
ቈናጽል/ qo፟näṣəl: Wolves; foxes, little foxes. “አሥግሃ ለነ ቈናጽለ ንኡሳነ።” Catch for us the little foxes. “ወአኀዘ ሠለስተ ምእተ ቁናጽለ።” And he caught three hundred foxes. “ለቈናጽል ግበብ ቦሙ” Foxes have dens: (ማሕ፪: ፲፭። መሳ፲፭: ፬። ማቴ፰: ፳).
ቈንቈነ/ qo፟nqo፟ne: decayed; became weak; wore out; became old; wasted
away. “ወአልባሲክሙኒ ቈንቈነ።” And your clothes have also worn out. “ዘኢይበሊ ወዘኢይማስን፤ ወዘኢይቈነቍን” That which does not
decay or rot; and that does not wear out: (ያዕ፭: ፪። ቄድር).
ቈንደየ/ qo፟ndäye: (ጐንደየ) He became hostile; he
became proud; he became arrogant; he became conceited; he grew horns; or became
horns; was called horns. As they say “ያገር ቀንድ” horn of the country: (መዝ: ፻፴፩። ሉቃ፩: ፷፱። ሕዝ፳፱: ፳፩)።. But the book says ተቈናደየ / teqonadeye instead of ቈንደየ/ qondeye; it doesnt make sense. “ትትቈናደዩ ብየ ወትዘረክዩኒ” You treat me
arrogantly and mock me: (ኢዮ፲፱: ፭). See ጐንደየ/ gondeye; it is the
root of this.
ቈነዳ/ qo፟nädä: he jumped; he jumped repeatedly. Of anger,
pride, or joy.
ቈዐለ/ qo፟ʿäle: (ይቍዕል ይቍዐል። ቀዊዕ ቆዐ) He became fat and
strong; he became fleshy; he grew, he became robust.
ቈጠጠ/ qo፟ṭäṭä: (ዕብ ቃጻጽ) He cut, he chopped, he chopped up; of grass,
of leaves. ቍጥቋጦ/ Qutqato means
offspring of this. “ቈጠጠ፤ ቍጣጥ ጣለ፤ ኰሳ።” qotete; he threw scraps; he was stingy.
ቈጢጥ/ qo፟ṭ'iṭ: (ጣን ጣት ጣጥ) Thin; slender; slim.
But the book says qotit instead of gezif. “ወዔግሎንሰ ቈጢጥ ብእሲ ውእቱ ጥቀ” And Eglon was a very thin man: (መሳ፫: ፲፯). ቀጠጦ/ Qeteto and ቀጠጥና/ qetetna come from this. ቀጠጦ/ Qeteto; name of millet, its fruit is thin.
ቈጢጥ ጦት/ qo፟ṭ'iṭ ṭot: (ቈጠ፤ ቈጠጠ ይቈጥጥ ይቍጥጥ። ቀጠነ) To become thin; to
become slender; to be thin, to be slim; to emaciate, to become lean. See ቀጥቀጠ/ qetqeten; it is a hybrid of this; even
አንቀጥቀጠ/ anqetqete.
ቈጥዖ ዖት/ qo፟ṭəʿo ot: (ቈጥዐ ይቌጥዕ ይቈጥዕ። ዐረ ቀዐጠ። ዕብ ቁጥ፤ ናቀ፤ ጠላ) To be angry; to
reproach; to be wrathful, irritable; to hate, to be bored. But the book says ተቈጥዐ/ teqota instead of ቈጥዐ/ qota; te is Amharic. See መዕዐ/ mean. “ኢትቈጥዐ ልቡ።” His heart is not angry. “ይትቌጣዕ ዲበ ሰብእ።” He is angry with
people. “ኢትትቈጣዕ ነባሪከ።” Do not be angry with your neighbor. “ለዘያበዝኅ ነቢበ ይትቌጥዕዎ” For he who multiplies
words, they are angry with him: (ሰቈ፪: ፳፪። ፊልክ: ፵፰። ሢራ፬: ፬። ፳: ፰).
ቈጸራ/ Qwets’era: Deceit; theft; fraud. “አግብእ ሎቱ ንዋዮ ወሀቦ ዘእንበለ ቈጸራ ወርዴ” Bring his property to
him and give it to him without deceit or fraud: (ቀሌ).
ቈጺል ሎት/ Qwets’il Lot: (ቈጸለ ይቈጽል ይቍጽል። ሐመለ፤ ለምለመ) To sprout; to put out
leaves; to sprout; to make leafy; to be branched, leafy. But the book says አቍጸለ/ aqusele instead of ቈጽለ/ qotsele; its a mistake: (አርጋ: ፩).
ቈጺር ሮት/ Qwets’ir Rot: (ቈጸረ ይቈጽር ይቍጽር። ዕብ ቃሻር፤ ቃጣር። ሱር ቅጣር) To tie; to join; one to
the other; or to tie one with the other; to strengthen, to tighten; to squint,
to frown, to squeeze; of the face. “ነሥኦ ዲናረ ወርቅ ወቈጸሮ በጸርቅ።” He took a gold dinar and tied it in a cloth. “ቈጸርዎ በልብሶሙ።” They tied him in their
clothes. “ቈጸሩ አማዑቶሙ።” They tied their intestines. “ሐብል መንፈሳዊ ዘያዐርግ ልበ እምድር ወይቈጽሮ ውስተ ሰማይ።” A spiritual rope that raises the heart from the earth and
binds it to heaven. “ኢትቍጽሩ ገጸክሙ።” Do not squint your faces. “እፎ ከመ ዝ ይቈጽር ገጾ።” How does he squint his face like this. “ትካዝ ወቈጺረ ገጽ” Sadness and a frowning face: (ስንክ: ታኀ፲። መጽ: ምስ። መዝ: ፲፮። ፊልክ: ፻፳፭። ፍ: ነ: ፵፭። አፈ: ተ፳፱).
፡ To think evil; to conceive; to plot;
to deceive; to trick. “እመ ቦ ዘቈጸረ ከመ ይቅትል።” If there is one who plots to kill. “አንተሰ ትቈጽር በዘትትሜጠዋ ለነፍስየ።” And you plot to destroy
my soul. “ለመጋቢ ኢይደልዎ ከመ ይቍጽር ለአመጋቢሁ ውስተ ሠዪጥ ወተሣይጦ” It is not fitting for a steward to plot against his
master in eating and drinking: (ዘፀ፳፩: ፲፬። ፩ነገ: ፳፬: ፲፪። ፍ: ነ: ፴).
: Counting; to make a count; to say one, two, three. “ኈለቈ ሐሰበ አኀዘ” Huleqe hasebe aheze
meaning he counted; the Amharic comes from this.
ቈጻሪ/ Qwets’ari: (ሪት ርያን ያት) One who counts; one who
ties; one who binds, one who ties; one who thinks, one who counts.
ቈጽል/ Qwets’l: (ላት፤ አቀጽል) Leaf; leaves; of a
tree, of a book, of gold, of silver. Vine branch. “ከመ ቈጽለ ዕፅ ዘጽፉቅ ቈጽሉ።” Like the leaf of a thick
tree. “በኅብስት ወማይ ወቈጽል።” With bread and water and leaves. “ቈጽለ ወርቅ ረቃቅ።” Thin gold leaves. “ቈጽለ አሥርቆ” Leaves of theft: (ሢራ፲፬: ፲፰። ቀሌ። ዘፀ፳፰: ፴፮። ሢራ፲፩: ፴).
ቅሒም ሞት/ Qihim Mot: (ቀሐመ ይቅሕም ይቅሐም። ቀምሐ) To pick up; to gather; of
fruit, of crumbs, of fragments. (ግጥም/ poem፤ ትግሬ ስለ ነጮች). “አዒንቶም ዚመስሉ አዒንት ደማሙ፤ ስናኖም ዚመስሉ ብርስን ዘቀሐሙ።” Their eyes resemble the
eyes of a cat; their teeth resemble a sword that has pierced. But the book says
ቀምሐ/ qemha instead of በቀሐመ/ qehame; its a mistake. “ይቀምሕ አንበሳ ሐሠረ ከመ ላሕም።” The lion will eat straw
like an ox. “ ኢይረክቡ አልሕምት ዘይቁምሑ።” They will not find straw to eat. “ሐመደ ይቀምሑ።” They eat dust. “ሐመደ ከመ እክል ቀማሕኩ።” I ate dust like grain. “ይቀምሕ መሬተ ውስተ አፉሁ።” He eats earth in his

eyebrows. “ነበስባሰ ቀራንብት።” Dew of eyebrows. “ወቀራንብቲሁኒ የሐቶ ለዕጓለ መሕያው።” And his eyebrows go to

ቅብለት/ qəbəlät: deficiency; deterioration;
deficiency; flaw. Instead of ቅብለት/ Kiblet, it says ቅላሌ ቅላሌ/ Kilale Kilale; its a
mistake. “በእንተ ስካር ወቅባሌ” Concerning drunkenness and deficiency: (ፍ: ነ: ፵፫: ፬).
ቅብቅብ/ qəbqəb:

ቅብዐት/ qəbʿāt [1]: anointing; being

ቅናዌ/ qənāwe: nailing; the wound of a
nail; wound. “ቅናዌ ወርግዘተ ኵናት” Nailing and thrusting of swords: (መጽ: ምስ).
ቅናው ቅናዋት/ qənāw qənāwāt: nails; nail wounds; stabs.
“ውስተ ዘነቦሙ ቦሙ ቅናዋት።” In their tails were nails. “ቶማስ ርእየ አሠሮሙ ለቅናዋት።” Thomas saw the marks of
the nails. “ርግዘተ ገቦሁ ወቅናዋተ እደዊሁ።” The thrust of his side and the nails of his hands. “ኀምስቱ ቅናዋት” The five nails: (ራእ፱: ፲። ስንክ: ሚያ፮። ግንዘ። አዋል).

ቅንአት/ qənʾāt: to be jealous; to envy.
Kinat is jealousy; anger, irritation; jealousy. “ቅንአት እግዚ ይገብር ዘንተ።” The zeal of the Lord
will perform this. “በቅንአተ ዲያብሎስ መጽአ ሞት።” By the envy of the devil, death came. “በከመ ኮነ ውስቴቱ ቅንአት በሕገ ኦሪት፤ ከማሁ ተመክዐበ ውስቴቱ ቅንአት በሕገ ኢየሲስ” As there was envy in the
law of the Old Testament; so was envy destroyed in the law of Jesus: (ኢሳ፱: ፯። ጥብበ፪: ፳፬። ስንክ: ሐም፭). Kinat and the root of
Qenete, Kinat, are combined in Amharic. (ግጥም/ poem) “ባፋ በጐራዴ ትደነቃላችኹ፤ ወገብ ቈርጦ እሚጥል ቅናት ሳለላችኹ።” You will be surprised by the mouth and the sword; while
you are envious of cutting the waist and throwing it. “ለመነኵሴ ብቻ ማን ሰጠው ቅናቱን፤ ለዓለማዊ ነው የተሠራው ጥንቱን።” Who gave the monk his
jealousy; it was originally made for the secular. Because Israel committed
adultery with idols; even the Creator has armed himself, not just humans, his
creatures.
ቅንእ/ qənʾ: This is also the same. “ቅንኡ ለብእሲ እምኀበ ቢጹ” The envy of a man from
his neighbor: (መክ፬: ፬)።.
ቅንው/ qənw: (ዋን ዋት ኑት) nailed; joined; one. “ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ቅንወ አእጋር ወእድ።” Jesus Christ, joined of
feet and hands. “እሑድ እሱር ወቅንው በሰንበት” Sunday bound and nailed on the Sabbath: (ደራሲ። ሲኖዶ).
ቅንየት ቅኔት/ qənyet qənēt: ruling; being ruled; rule;
dominion; subjection; slavery. “ወእምቅንየቶሙ አድኅነክሙ።” And from their
subjection, he saved you. “እስከ ትቀንይዋ ለሀገር እስመ ቀርበ ቅንየታ።” Until you rule the land, for its subjection is near. “ኢወፅአ እምእዴሁ ኀበ ቅንየተ ካልኡ።” He did not go out of his
hand to the subjection of another. “ለተበርብሮ ወለቅንየት” For destruction and
subjection: (ዘፀ፮: ፮። ዮሴፍ። ፍ: ነ ፳፯። አስቴ: ፯: ፬).
፡ creation; formation; creation. “እስመ ቅንየትከ ወምልክናከ ይሬስየከ ትሣሀል ላዕለ ኵሉ” For your creation and
your kingdom make you merciful over all: (ጥበ፲፪: ፲፮).
ቅንጣብ/ qənṭāb: (ባት) fragment; piece; scrap;
shred; crumb. “ወይእዜሰ ግማዳተ አብድ ወቅንጣባተ ረሰይከኒ” And now you have made me fragments of fools and scraps: (ኢዮ፲፮: ፰).
ቅንጣዌ/ qənṭāwe: gluttony; excessive
satiety; the disease of gluttony. “ሰብእሲ ሥሡዕ ዘኢይጸግብ ደዌሁ ቅንጣዌ ወገብጥ።” For a greedy man who is
not satisfied, his disease is gluttony and stomach ache. “ጽጋብ ጸዋዔ ቅንጣዌ ውእቱ ወቅንጣዌ ጸዋዔ ደዌ፤ ወደዌ ጸዋዔ ሞት” Satiety is the caller of
gluttony, and gluttony is the caller of disease; and disease is the caller of
death: (ሢራ፴፬: ፳። ፈላስ). ቄንጥ/ Qent meaning staylish,
flashy, comes from this.
ቅንፍዛት ቀናፍዝ/ qənfəzāt | qʼänāfəz: porcupines; wicked hairs
with thorny hairs.
ቅንፍዝ/ qənfəz: (ዕብ ቂፎድ። ሱር ቂፉዳ። ዐረ ቁንፉድ ዝ) porcupine; thorny animal;
its hair is like a grate, like a nail; a type of hedgehog: (ኢሳ፲፬: ፳፫። ፴፬: ፲፩).
ቅዒን ኖት/ qʾīn | nōt: (ቀዐነ ይቅዕን ይቅዐን። ቀነየ) to trouble, to narrow; to
squeeze. to be troubled, to be narrowed, to be squeezed; of a place.
ቅዉም/ qəwūm: (ማን ማት ውምት) standing, firm; customary;
separate. “እሙንቱ ቅዉማን ላዕለ ቅጽር።” They stand on the wall. “ወውእቱ ቅዉም በኀበ ግብጻውያን ወመለካውያን።” And he is customary among the Egyptians and the kings. “ሕሩም ወቅዉም እምቤተ ክርስቲያን” Excommunicated and separated from the church: (ዮሴፍ። ፍ: ነ: መቅ። ቀሌ).
ቅያሔ/ qəyāhe: this also the same. “ይሰወጥ ውስተ ገጽየ እንተ ገጽከ ቅያሔ” It is scattered on my face, that your face is Qiyahe: (ደራሲ).
ቅያሜ/ qəyāme: to resent; resentment; resentment;
resentment. “ፍቅርሰ ኅጥአተ ሚን ወቅያሜ” Love is the sin of anger
and resentment: (ኦዋል).

ቅዱስ/ qədūs: (ሳን ሳት ድስት) in its entirety; holy; honorable;
blessed; special, excellent; pure, clear. “ቅዱሰ ቅዱሳን ስሙ።” Holy of holies is his name. “ቅዱሳነ ልዑል።” Holy ones of the Most High. “መጻሕፍት ቅዱሳት።” Holy Scriptures. “ሀገር ቅድስት” Holy land: (ኢሳ፶፯: ፲፭። ዳን፯: ፳፯። ሮሜ፩: ፪። ማቴ፬: ፭).
ቅዳሴ/ qədāsē: (ስያት) Consecration, sanctification; (intensive) to
consecrate fully, to sanctify; blessing, praise; the Eucharistic prayer. “ቅዳሴ ቤተ ክርስቲያን።” "The
Liturgy of the Church.” “መልአከ ቅዳሴ።"Angel of the Liturgy.” “ወእምቅድመ ይፍጥር መላእክተ ለቅዳሴ።” "And before He created the angels of the
Liturgy.” “እምድኅረ ፍጻሜ ቅዳሴ ዘምስጢር ።” "After the completion of the Liturgy of
the Mystery.” “በእንተ ቅዳሴ ፤ ናሁ ንቡር በቤተ ክርስቲያን ቅብጣዊት ሠለስቱ ቅዳስያት ፤ ዘባስልዮስ ወጎርጎርዮስ ወቄርሎስ “"Concerning
the Liturgy; behold, in the Coptic Church, three Liturgies are customary: that
of Basil, Gregory, and Cyril” (ኵፋ ፡ ፪። አፈ ፡ ተ፲፯። ፍ ፡ ነ ፡ ፲፪).
ቅድሐት/ qədḥat: to pour; being poured; pouring;
pouring. “ዘምሉእ ቅድሐቱ” That which is full of
its pouring: (መዝ: ፸፬).
ቅድመ/ qədmə: before; beforehand; in
front; forward; in front; before. Ask before. “ቅድመ አውፅእ ሠርዌ እምዐይንከ።” First take the splinter out of your eye. “ደኃርት ይከውኑ ቅድመ።” The last shall be first.
“ሑሩ ቅድመ።” Go before. “እስመ ተሐውር ቅድመ እግዚ” For you will go before the Lord: (ሢራ፲፩: ፯። ማቴ፯: ፭። ፲፯: ፲። ፲፱: ፴። ዘፀ፴፪: ፲፮። ሉቃ፩: ፸፮). It lists Qidmeye as ከ/ ke, ኪ/ ki, ሁ/ hu, ሃ/ ha, ነ/ ne. When it is ሳ/ sa, it is emphasized with im; and without emphasizing; it
comes in the third clause. “በሰማይኒ ቅድመ ይትፈጠር ኪሩብ።” Even in heaven, the cherub is created first. “እምቅድመ ይትፈጠር ዓለም” Before the world was created: (ደራሲ። ጸሎ: ሃይ).
ቅድመት/ qədmət: to precede; being
preceded; precedence; priority; precedence; priority; authority. “አልቦ ቅድመት ለሀለዎቶሙ።” There is no precedence

excellence, greatness; firstborn. “አልቦ ጥንት ለቅድምናከ።” There is no origin to
your precedence. “አኀዘ የአምር ቅድምናሁ” He began to know his precedence: (ፍ: ነ: መቅ። አፈ: ድ፫).
ቅድሳት/ qədsāt: holiness; honor, purity;
grace of the blessed; sacrifice, offering. “ከመንርክብ ቅድሳቲሁ።” That we may obtain his
holiness. “ፈነውኩ ለቅድሳቲከ ፍቁርየ።” I sent your holiness, my beloved. “ቅድሳት ለቅዱሳን፤ ቅድሳቶ ነሢአነ፤ ንዋየ ቅድሳት” Holiness for the holy; we
have taken his holiness; holy things: (ዕብ፲፪: ፲። ተረ: ቄር፲፭። ቅዳ).
ቅድስተ ቅዱሳን/ qədəste | qədūsān: (ዕብ ቆዴሽ ቆዳሽም) in its entirety; the sanctuary of the Old Testament; the
place of the ark; the twenty cubits in front of the forty cubits: (ዕብ፱: ፳፭። ፲፫: ፲፩). See ዳቤር/ Dabir.
ቅድስና/ qədəsnā: holiness; honor; purity;
respect. “ኰነነ ሴት ሕዝቦ በጽድቅ ወበንጽሕ ወበቅድስና።” He judged his people in righteousness, purity, and
holiness. “መንፈሰ ቅድስና።” Spirit of holiness. “ነኀሥሥ እምነ ቅድስናከ” We seek from your
holiness: (ቀሌ። ኪዳ። ስንክ: ጥቅ፲፪).
ቅድው/ qəddəw:
(ዋን ዋት ዱት) beautiful; adorned; beautiful;
fragrant, sweet; pure, clear; precious, honorable. “ቦ ሕሡም ወቦ ቅድው።” There is ugly and
there is beautiful. “ዘአርኣያከ ቅድው።” Your beautiful appearance. “ዕፍረት ቅድው።” Beautiful scent. “መዓር ቅድው።” Beautiful honey. “በግዕ ቅድው።” Beautiful sheep. “ልብስ ቅድው” Beautiful clothes: (መጽ: ምስ። ዐርኬ። ዓሞ፮: ፮። ሕዝ፳፯: ፲፯። ፩ጴጥ: ፩: ፲፱። ፩ጢሞ: ፪: ፱).
ቅጠን/ qəṭän: thinness; slenderness;
area. “ቅጠንየ ይገዝፍ እምሐቌ አቡየ” My thinness is
greater than my fathers loins: (፫ነገ: ፲፪: ፲).
ቅጡሮት/ qəṭurot:
(ዕብራ) smoky ones; dark ones; houses with smoke
and darkness. (ሕዝ፵፮: ፳፪).
ቅጡፍ/ qəṭuf: (ፋን ፋት ጥፍት) cut off; broken; cut off, shortened.
ቅጣፍ/ qəṭāf: (ፋት። ዐረብ) cutter; fragment; piece;
scrap; branch, cluster; brides ornament. It can also be for Qine; such as ቀጠፋ ቅኔ/ Qetefa Qine.
ቅጥራን/ qəṭrān:
(ዐረ ቀጥራን) in its entirety; resin spice; that
which comes out from a tree; that which burns like pitch. “አፍልሕዎ ውስተ ጻሕል በዝፍት ወበቅጥራን።” Smear it in a vessel with pitch and tar. “ቃር ወፒሳ ወተይ ወቅጥራን” Reed, peas, tea, and

ቅጥቁጥ/ qəṭqʷuṭ:

fine; sad, depressed. “በትረ ብርዕ ቅጥቁጥ።” Crushed reed rod. “ዘያነሥኦ ለውዱቅ ወይፌውሶ ለቅጥቁጥ።” Who raises the fallen and heals the
crushed. “ቅጥቁጣንኪ” Crushed of heart. “ቅጥቁጣንኪ” Your crushed ones: (ኢሳ፴፮: ፮። ቀሌ። አፈ: ተ፴፩። ሶፎ፫: ፲፰).
ቅጥቃጤ/ qəṭqäṭe:
in its entirety; crushing; crushing; crushing; crushing; fracture; grief;

ቅጹል/ qəṣul: (ላን ላት ጽልት) attached; attachment. A person who has
acquired their preparedness.
ቅጹር/ qəṣur: (ራን ራት ጽርት) fenced; appointed. “ሀገር ቅጽርት” Fenced city: (ኢሳ፩: ፰).
ቅጽር/ qəṣər: in its entirety; fence;

ቅጽቃጼ/ qəṣəqäṣe:

“ቍርጥማት፤ ቃንዛ፤ የደዌ የሐዘን ስሜት።” Cramps; pain; feeling of sickness, of
sorrow. “ፈውስ ዘያሴስል ቅጽቃጼ ሕማም” Healing that relieves
the pain of sickness: (አፈ: ድ፳፩).
ቅጽበት/ qəṣəbät:
mentioning; being mentioned; mentioning; wink; bite. In its entirety; speed;
haste; swiftness; immediately; quickly; suddenly; without delay. “ይኤምር በቅጽበተ አጻብዕ።” He knows in the wink
of an eye. “ዘነበበ በጊዜሁ ይገብሮ ወዘኀለየ በቅጽበት ይከውኖ።” He who speaks in his time does it, and he who thinks about it does it in
a moment. “በመጠነ አሐቲ ቅጽበት።” In the measure of one
moment. “ኢተፈልጠ መለኮት እምትስብእት፤ ወኢከመ ቅጽበተ ዐይን።” Divinity was not separated from humanity; not like the wink of an eye. “ወበሣልስ ንፍኅተ ቀርን ይትነሥኡ ሙታን ከመ ቅጽበተ ዐይን” And at the third blowing of the horn, the dead will rise like the wink

ቅፍሎ/ qəflo: (ብ ቀፋልው፤ ሉት) gold leaf; fine fabric; plating; ointment. “ቅፍሎ ወርቅ” Gold leaf: (ዘፀ፳፭: ፲፰። ፴: ፫: ፭).
ቆሎንያ/ qolonyā:
(ጽር ኮሎኒኣ) dominion; colony; province; additional
part; the land of one official: (ግብ፲፮: ፲፪).
ቆመሰ አው ተቆመሰ/ qomäsä aw täqomäsä: he became Qomos; he was called; he was appointed to a
Qomse position; he accepted.
ቆም/ qom: (ብ ቆማት) height; length; the
size of a building, of a body; from the ground up to the sky, from foot to
head, from bottom to top. “ወኖኀ ቆማ።” And the height of her stature. “ኢይትዐወቅ ኑኃ ወግድማ ወኢቆማ።” Neither the height nor the width nor
the stature is known. “በአምጣነ ቆሙ ለሰብእ ኀይሉ።” According to the stature of the
strength of a man. “ቆመ አረፍት።” The stature of rest. “ወደምስስ ቆሞሙ በእደ ብእሲት” And their stature is likened to the

ቆቅሖ ሖት/ qoqəḥo
hot: (ቆቅሐ ይቆቅሕ። ዐረ ቀውቀ። ዕብ ቃዕቄዐ) clucking; to make
clucking sounds; to say qaqaqa; of a chicken, of a partridge; to lay eggs. See ቀሕቅሐ/ Qehqiha; it is a hybrid of this.
ቆባር/ qobār: (ራት) dust, dirt that buries and covers; like the
Sahara desert during windy times: (ዘዳ፳፰: ፳፬). Fog; mist, smoke,
dark cloud; that suffocates, that covers; that darkens. “ወቆባር ታሕተ እገሪሁ።” And Qobar is under
his feet. “ዕለተ ጽልመት ወቆባር።” A day of darkness and Qobar. “አድባረ ቆባራት እለ ክረምት” Mountains of Qobar of
winter: (መዝ: ፲፯። ሶፎ፩: ፲፭። ሕዝ፴፬: ፲፪። ሔና፲፯: ፯). ቆበር/ Qober and ቆበራም/ Qoberam also come from this.
ቆብዕ/ qobəʿ [1]:

ቆጶን/ qopon [1]:
(ናት። ቆብዕ ዓት) high shoes; boots
that go up to the knee. “ቆጶናቲሁ።” His boots. “ቆጶናት።” Boots. “ቆጶናተ ያክንት” Boots of hyacinth: (ሢራ፵፭: ፰። አፈ: ተ፪። አረጋ). The Oromo word Qope
meaning capable, ready, wise, skillful, fast, agile; is very similar to ቆጶን/ Qopo.

ቆፋዊ/ qofāwi:
a type of monkey; a type of monkey; stingy, greedy, miserly.

ቋዕ/ qʷäʿ [1]:

Qewai, that says qewa, gatherer, picker. “ፈነዎ ለቋዕ።” He sent a raven. “ጸሊም ከመ ቋዕ።” Black as a raven. “ርእዩ ቋዓተ” See ravens: (ዘፍ፰: ፯። ማሕ፭: ፲፩። ሉቃ፲፪: ፳፬). It is said that the raven is as old as the
Zihon, older than the Erkum. And when its young hatch, they come out white like
Raza; or red like Higure pepper, and then they turn black as they grow; and
their mother, afraid and startled by their whiteness, leaves them there and
goes elsewhere until they turn black. But the father of creation, God, feeds them
by bringing small flies and mosquitoes from the atmosphere to their mouths as
if feeding them with a spoon. “ዘይሁቦሙ ሴሳዮሙ ለእንስሳ ወለዕጕልው ቋዓት እለ ይጼውዕዎ” He who gives their food to the animals
and to the young ravens who call on him: (መዝ: ፻፵፮).
