/ : The seventeenth letter in the Geez alphabet in the order of አልፍ/ alef house, in አበገደ/ abägädä; its name is ፈፍ/ fäf; its number is eighty; when it is a numeral, it is called / 80; see አፈፈ/ afäfä.

ፈሐል/ Fäḥal: (ዐረ ፈሕል) Young camel; stallion; bull.

ፈሓል ፋሕል/ Fäḥal Faḥl: Fornication; adultery; lewdness; anger; passion of lust; drunkenness; sting. Chief of fornication. “ፈሓለ ዝሙት፤ ኢበነፍስተ ሥጋ ምስለ ፈሓለ አንጕዕ ዘይክዑ እሳተ ዲበ አባል።He committed fornication; not with the body but with the fornication of the mind that kindles fire upon fire. “ጽጋብ ኢይምጽአኒ ወፈሓል ኢይክርየኒ።” ,Satiety does not come to me, and fornication does not satisfy me. “ፋሕሉ ለወይንThe fornication of wine: (ቀኖ: ሐዋ። አርጋ: ፮። ሢራ፳፫: ፮። መቃ: ገ፯).

ፈሐሰ/ Fäḥäsä: (ዐረ። ትግ ፈሕሰ፤ ዐማ ነቀፈ) He dug, he searched, he turned over; he asked repeatedly; of a judge, of a doctor.

ፈሀረ/ Fähärä [1]: He dug – ፍሒር ፈሐረ/ fəḥir fähärä.

ፈሓሪ/ Fäḥari: One who digs; digger; farmer.

ፈኃሪ/ Fäari: One who harvests; harvester; fiancé. “ፈኃሪሃ ለማርያም።Her fiancé was Mary. “ፈኃሪ አው ዘተፍኅረት።A fiancé or one who is betrothed. “ለእመ ሞተ አሐዱ እምፈኃርያን ቅድመ አውስቦቱIf one of the fiancés dies before the marriage: (ማቴ፩: ፲፮። : : ፳፬: ፪። ፵፪: ).

ፈሐቀ/ Fäḥäḳä: He split; he broke – ፍሒቅ ፈሐቀ/ fəḥiḳ fäḥäḳä.

ፈሐቀ/ Fäḥäḳä: He hiccuped – ፍሂቅ ፈሀቀ/ fəhiḳ fähäḳä.

ፈሃቂ/ Fähaḳi: One who splits; splitter; one who hiccups.

ፈሓቂ/ Fäḥaḳi: (ቂት ቅያን ያት፤ ፈሐቅት) One who splits; splitter; breaker; one who breaks into pieces. “ከመ ዘየኀድር ውስተ ቤተ ፈሓቂ።Like one who dwells in the house of a splitter. “ወቀርተ እብን ወፈሐቅትAnd a stone cutter and splitters: (ማር: ይሥ። ፩ዜና: ፳፪: ).

ፈለመ/ Fälämä: (ትግሬ) He divided, he split. ፈለመ/ fälämä (beginning), he pierced, he struck; he gave a down payment; he started the price.

ፈለክ/ Fäläk: (ዐረብ። ዕብ ፌሌኽ። ሱር ፍላኳታ) Firmament; air, the part around in the air, in the firmament; orbit, rank; sign; the twelve signs of the zodiac (of the sun and the moon). “ኅዋኅወ ፈለክ።The expanse of the firmament. “ቀዳሚ ኆኅተ ፈለከ። The first gate of the firmament. “ሰብአ ፈለክ።The seven heavens. “ኢትበጽሕ ኀይሉ እስከ ፈለከ ወርኅ።Its power does not reach the orbit of the moon. “ተዐኒየ ዐውደ ነፍስየ እስከ ሣልሳዊ ፈለክ፤ አመ ተቃወማ በአየር ቀናኢ መልአክI ascended the circuit of my soul to the third heaven; when a zealous angel opposed me in the air: (አቡሻ: ፫። ፬። ፳፭። አፈ: ድ፪። ደራሲ).

ፈለግ/ Fäläg: Great river; flowing water; source; irrigation canal; ditch; watercourse; swamp; lowland, hollow; valley. “ፈለገ ግብጽ።The river of Egypt. “ፈለገ አርዝ።The river Arẓ. “ፈለግ ዘአንጻረ ደቡብA river facing the south: (ኢሳ፯: ፲፰። ዮሐ፲፰: ፩።፪ዜና: ፲፬: ).

ፈሊሕ ሖት/ Fäliḥ Ḥot: (ፈልሐ ይፈልሕ ይፍላሕ። ዐረ ፋረ) To boil; to bubble, to jump; to gush forth; of liquid. (ተረት/ proverbs )ተጥዶ አይፈላ፤ ተሹሞ አይበላ።What is thrown away does not boil; what is appointed does not eat. “ወይፍላሕ በሕቁ።And let him boil in his pot. “ፈልሑ ማያት ዲበ ርእሱ።Waters boiled over his head. “እምቅድመ ይፍልሑ አንቅዕተ ማያትBefore the springs of water boil: (ሕዝ፳፬: ፭። ድጓ። ቅዳ: አፈ).

ፈሊል ሎት/ Fälil Lot: (ፈለ፤ ፈለለ ይፈልል ይፍልል። ዕብ ፋሌል) To drip; to descend, to fall; of the breast, of milk. See ፈልፈለ/ fälfälä; it is a derivative of this.

ፈሊስ ሶት/ Fälis Sot: (ፈለሰ ይፈልስ ይፍልስ። ዕብ ፋሌሽ) To open; to reveal; of a door, of a curtain. See ፊላስ/ filas; it is the root of this.

To uproot; to pull out; to lift the foot and root from the place where they are, to uproot; to move to another place, to go, to migrate; to be a ፈላሻ/ fälasa (migrant). “ፈሊሶ እምህየ።He migrated from there. “ፍልስ እምዝየMigrate from here. “ኢትፍልሱ እምቤት ውስተ ቤትDo not move from house to house: (ማቴ፲፪: ፱። ዮሐ፯: ፫። ሉቃ፲: ).

To wander; to roam. To be captured; to be in captivity; to die; to separate, to perish. “ይፍልሱ ወያስተፍእሙ።Let them wander and be consumed. “ይሁዳ ፈለሰ ፍጹመ ፍልሰተ።Judah went into complete exile. “አመ ይፈልስ እምዝንቱ ዓለም።When he departs from this world. “ከመ የሀሉ ዝክርከ እንበለ ፈሊስSo that your memory may remain without ceasing: (መዝ: ፻፰። ኤር፲፫: ፲፱። ዲድ: ፲፯። ስንክ: ኅዳ፲፪).

To roll over and over; to tumble; to roll around; to say double and round (ዐማርኛ).

ፈሊቅ ቆት/ Fäliḳ Ḳot: (ፈለቀ ይፈልቅ ይፍልቅ። ዐረ ፈለቀ፤ አቀለጠ) To split open; to flow out; to be full and overflowing, beyond measure; or to boil and gush out, overflowing. To sprout; to melt; to be agile; to make agile. But the book says አፍለቀ/ afläḳä instead of ፈለቀ/ fäläḳä. “ኮንኪ ዕሉተ ወአፍለቂYou were licentious and extravagant: (ሕዝ፲፮: ፴፬). This is a redundant word with an added prefix.

To sprout; to argue; of a turban, of a wick.

ፈሊግ ጎት/ Fälig Got: (ፈለገ ይፈልግ ይፍልግ። ዕብ ፋላግ። ዐረ ፈለጀ) To be divided; to be split; to be torn; to be hollowed out; to sprout (of water, of the ground, of a wick) it can also be for other things. To search for; desire; to want, to follow (ዐማርኛ).

ፈሊጥ ጦት/ Fäliṭ Ṭot: (ፈለጠ ይፈልጥ ይፍልጥ። ዕብ ፋላጥ፤ አዳነ አስጣለ፤ አወጣ) To split; to cleave; of a wick. To separate; to isolate; to divide; to choose, to set apart. What God has joined together, let no man separate. ዘፈለጠ ብእሴ እምብእሲቱ።He who separates a man from his wife. ወይፍልጥ መንጦላዕት ውሳጤ ወቀሠፋየ።And he shall separate the inner veil and its covering. ፈለጦሙ ለነገደ ሌዊ ይጹሩ ታቦተ።He separated the Levites to carry the ark. ወፈለጠ ዕዝራ ዕደወAnd Ezra separated the priests: (ማቴ፲፱: ፮። ሢራ፴፩: ፳፰። ዘፀ፳፮: ፴፫። ዘዳ፲: ፰። ፪ዕዝ: : ፲፮).

To know distinctly; to understand; to comprehend. ጕርዔ ይፈልጦ ለኵሉ ጣዕመ እክል።The throat distinguishes the taste of all food. እዝን ይፈልጥ ነገረ።The ear distinguishes words. እለ ኢፈለጡ የማኖሙ ወፀጋሞሙ።Those who did not know their right hand from their left. ወትፈልጥ ዘይኄይስAnd you discern what is better: (ሢራ፴፮: ፳፬። ኢዮ፲፪: ፲፲፩። ዮና፬: ፲፲፩። ሮሜ፪: ፲፰).

ፈሊጽ ጾት/ Fäliṣ Ṣot: (ፈለጸ ይፈልጽ ይፍልጽ። ዕብ ፋላጽ) To split; to cleave; to break, to crush. See ፈለጠ/ fälätä; the word ፍላጻ/ fəlaṣa (arrow) is derived from this. See ለፈጸ/ läfäṣä; it is a cognate of this.

ፈላሲ/ Fälasī: (ሲት ስያን ያት) One who migrates; migrant; wanderer; stranger; captive; refugee; mortal. ነገድ ዘፈለሰ ፈላሲ ኀቤሁ።A tribe that migrated, a migrant came to him. እስመ ፈላሲ አነ ውስተ ምድር።For I am a stranger in the land. ፈላሴ ይከውን ዘርዕከ።Your offspring will be migrants. ፈላስያነ ጽዮን።The migrants of Zion. መዋሥዕት ዘፈላስያንThe dwellings of the migrants: (ሕዝ፵፯: ፳፫። መዝ: ፴፰። ኩፋ: ፲፬። ባሮ፬: ፱። ግንዘ).

Hermit; monk; ascetic; solitary; lonely; desert dweller. አሐዱ እምገዳማውያን ይቤ ለእኍ ለእመ ኮንከ ዘኢትክል ከመ ትኵንፈላሴ ከማበ ንበር በበኣትከ ወብኪ በእንተ ኀጢአትከ።One of the monks said to his brother, If you cannot be a migrant like us, stay in your cell and weep for your sins. ኵን ፈላሴ ውስተገዳምBe a migrant in the monastery: (ፊልክ: ፳፬ና: ፵፰).

ፈላስፋ/ Fälasfa: (ጽር ፊሎሶፊያ) Lover of wisdom; wise, knowledgeable, discerning. It is said for both singular and plural; like people, like a multitude within. መጽሐፈ ፈላስፋ ጠቢባን ይቤ አሐዱ እምፈላስፋ።The book of wise philosophers says one of the philosophers. ጠቢባን ፈላስ ይቤሉ።Wise men are called philosophers. ቀደምት ፈላስፋ ወጠቢባንAncient philosophers and wise men: (ፈላስ። አፈ: ድ፳፪። አቡሻ: ).

ፈልሰፈ አው ተፈልሰፈ/ Fäläsäfä aw täfäläsäfä: He became a philosopher; he knew; he discerned. ወኮነ አፍላጦን ይሜህሮሙ ለአርዳኢሁ ጥበበ ተፈልስፎ እንዘ የሐውር።And Plato used to teach his students the wisdom of philosophy while walking. ወሖረ በፍድፋዴ ውስተ ተፈልስፎ አምላካዊAnd he went diligently into divine philosophy: (ፈላስ። ማር: ይሥ: መቅ).

ፈልኪንዶስ/ Fälkindos: (ሮማይ ፋልኪዲያኑስ) A mans name; who wrote about inheritance and the distribution of money; who made laws for the inheritor and the one inherited from. ዘይቤው ፈልኪንዶሳዊ፤ የርሱን ትእዛዝ የፈጸመ የተቀበለ ማለት ነው።He who is called Falcidian; means one who has fulfilled and received his command. እሙንቱሰ ይሰመዩ ወራስያነ ወለሊሁ ይሰመይ አውራሴ ፈልኪንዶሰBut they are called heirs, and his law is called the Falcidian law: (: : ፳፪: ፲፲፩).

ፈልይ ዮት/ Fäly Yot: (ፈለየ ይፈሊ ይፍሊ። ዕብ ፋላህ) To pick out lice; to search for and pick out lice from clothes and hair. ክፋውን ከበጎ መለየት መነጠል፤ መምረጥ ማንጓለል፤ ማስወገድ ማስገለልTo separate and distinguish evil from good; to choose, to select; to remove, to set aside: (ሄርማ: ገ፻፲).

ፈልፈለ/ Fälfälä: (ፈሊል ፈለ) It sprouted; it budded; it became a sprout; of a shoot, of a green wood. It sprang forth, it came out, it flowed, it burst forth, it poured out. ይፈለፍል ነቅዕ እምቤተ እግዚ።A spring will sprout from the house of the Lord. ፈለገ ዘይፈለፍል።A flowing river. ይፈለፍል ውስተ ምድር ጽምእትIt will sprout in the thirsty land: (ዮኤ፬: ፲፰። ምሳ፲፰: ፬። ኢሳ፴፭: ).

ፈልፈል/ Fälfäl [1]: Spring; flowing water. Spring of water. ፈልፈለ አንብዕ።Spring of tears. ይነፅፍኑ ፈልፈለ ኰኵሕWill they pour forth the spring of the rock?: (ቀሌ። ኤር፱: ፩። ፲፰: ፲፬).

[2]: (ዐረ፤ ዕብ ፊል፤ ዝኆን) Hippopotamus; rhinoceros; living near water. ረከበ አርዌ ዐቢየ ዘስሙ ፈልፈል ዘውእቱ ሐርማዝ ብሂልfound a large beast whose name was fälfäl, which is called rhinoceros: (አዋል). አጽንዕዎ ፈልፈል ወመንተሌThey strengthened the fälfäl and the mäntäle: (ፍካሬ: እየ).

ፈሲስ ሶት/ Fäsīs Sot: (ፈሰ፤ ፈሰሰ ይፈስስ ይፍስስ። ሱር ፍሳስ) To cast lots; to draw out; to open by lot. To pour out; to flow, to melt.

ፈሲው/ Fäsiw: (ፈሰወ፤ ፈስወ። ዐረ ፈሳ) To shout; to be agitated; of the stomach. The sound ቱስ / tus ቁቅ/ ḳuḳ ላጥ/ laṭ በርቀቅ/ bäräḳäḳ means a fart; it slips out and bursts like a gunshot. Or to intentionally fart; to breathe through the buttocks; to be relieved; see ጐየጸ/ goyäṣä. To cut off, to split, to break, to crack. ፋስ/ Fas (fart) is a derivative of this. Cutting off can also be for a fart; (ግጥም/ poem ድሬ ዳዋ) while everyone quarreled and held their ears saying the blood and sweat of the magician with a fart; Negadras Dilbi used to stand and sit to decide on the matter of farts.

ፈሣሒ መስተፍሥሒ / Fäsahi Mästäfsəḥi Ḥə: Delightful. ግብር ሠናይ ወመስተፍሥሒ። Good and delightful deed. መስተፍሥሔ አልባብDelight of hearts: (ፈላስ። ቄድር። ቅዳ)

ፈሳሲ ፈሰስ/ Fäsasi Fäsäs: Flowing; liquid; flowing, melting. ነቅዐ ፈሰስFlowing spring: (ፊልክ: ፴፰).

ፈሥሖ ሖት/ Fäsḥo Ḥot: (ፈሥሐ ይፌሥሕ ይፈሥሕ። ዐረ ፈሰሐ፤ ሰፋ፤ ተደሰተ። ዕብ ፋሳሕ፤ ዐደወ፤ ፈሰከ) To please; to make happy; to entertain, to confess, to calm down. See fäṣḥa; it is the root of this; but the book says ästäfsəḥa instead of fäsḥa; it does not mean the same. ወይን ወማሕሌት ያስተፌሥሑ ልበ።Wine and song gladden the heart. አስተፍሥሖሙ ለእለ ይላሕዉTheir delight is for those who labor: (ሢራ፵: ፳። ፵፰: ፳፬).

ፈስው ፈሰው/ Fäsw Fäsäw: Fart; lower breath. Some teachers interpret it as a healing seed in the style of healing; that is, medicine. ለእመ ወፅአ እምብእሲ ፈስው በቤተ ክርስቲያን፤ ላዕሌሁ ኀምሳ ስግደት ወሠለስቱ ሰቅል ሰንድሮስIf a fart comes out of a man in church; upon him be fifty prostrations and three shekels of incense: (ቄድር).

ፈረሳዊ/ Färäsawi: Horseman; one who owns a horse; rider; wave, surge: (ስንክ: መስ፲፰).

ፈረስ/ Färäs: ( አፍራስ። ዕብ ፋራሽ። ዐረ ፈረስ) a wellknown domestic animal; runner, rider; chariot puller; gelding, young male horse, stallion. Like a cow, it is used for both female and male; some say it does not have a feminine form and use ፈረስት/ färäst and አፍራሳት/ afrasat, which is acceptable. ፈረስ ዘኢተረየፀ ይወፅእ እኩየ።A horse that is not trained comes out bad. ረዋጺ ፈረስ።A swift horse. መጽአት ፈረሰ ንጉሥ ወሰትየት እምኔሁ ወፀንሰት፤ ወይእቲኒ ፈረስ እንተ ፀንሰት ወለደት በዕለተ ተወልደ እስክንድርThe kings horse came and went from him and conceived; and that very horse that conceived gave birth on the day Alexander was born: (ሢራ፴: ፷። ኢሳ፴: ፲፮። ዜና: እስ።) አፍራስ ጸብእ።War horses. ድምፀ ሠረገላ ወአፍራስ።The sound of chariots and horses. አፍራስ አእኑስ ወአፍራስ አትቡዕMale horses and female horses: (፫ነገ: : ፳፮። ሚክ፩: ፲፫። ፪ዜና: : ፳፭).

ፈሩርም/ Färurəm: (ጽር ፋሩሪም። ዕብ ፋርዋሪም) Towers; place names; the left and right sides of the temple; the outskirts of a city; corner. Or a square in front; a dung heap; a garbage dump; a place for refuse. በፈሩርምIn the towers: (፬ነገ: ፳፫: ፲፩). One of them is called ፋርዋር / Parwar.

ፈሪኅ/ Färiḫ: (ፈርኀ። ዕብ ፋራሕ) To sprout, to come out; to multiply, to increase; to swarm, to flutter; of insects, of birds.

ፈሪህ ሆት/ Färih Hot: (ፈርሀ ይፈርህ ይፍራህ። ዕብ ፋራህ፤ ፈረየ። ዐረ ፈረ፤ ጐየ) To fear; to respect, to worship. To be afraid; to be anxious. ፍርህዎ ለእግዚ ዐቢየ ፍርሀተ The fear of God is the greatest fear. ፍርህዎ ለእግዚ ዐቢየ ፍርሀተ።The root of wisdom is the fear of God. ሥርዋ ለጥበብ ፈሪሀ እግዚ። እመኒ ጸብአኒ ተዓይን ኢይፈርሀኒ ልብየ።Even if an army confronts me, my heart will not fear me. ፈርሀ ላዕለ ነፍሱ እምእኍሁ።He feared for his life more than his brother. ለእመ ይፈርሁ በእንቲኣሁ ሞተFor if they fear for his sake, he is dead: (ዮና፩: ፲፮። ሢራ፩: ፳። መዝ: ፳፮። ዮሴፍ። : : ).

ፈሪሳዊ/ Färisawi: (ዕብ ፋሩሽ) Solitary ascetic; pure virgin; hermit; separate, distinct from people. አነ ፈሪሳዊ ወልደ ፈሪሳዊ።I am a Pharisee, a son of a Pharisee. አሐዱ እምነ ፈሪሳውያንOne of the Pharisees: (ግብ፳፫: ፮። ዮሐ: ). But modern scholars interpret it as Pharisees from the Greek word Pharis; the Hebrew word is perets; and its root is färäṣä; their interpretation is not entirely accurate.

ፈሪስ ሶት/ Färis Sot: (ፈረሰ ይፈርስ ይፍርስ። ዕብ ፋራስ፤ ሰበረ አፈረሰ) To ride; to gallop; to go up and down; to be broken, to be destroyed; of waves. To be untied; to become desolate; to separate, to be divided, to be scattered; of a country, of a house.

ፈሪር/ Färir: (ፈረቀ ይፈርቅ።  ዕብ ፋራቅ።  ሱር ፍራቅ) To sprout; to rub; of fruit, of a particle. See ፈርፈረ/ färfärä.

ፈሪቅ ቆት/ Färiḳ Ḳot: (ፈረቀ ይፈርቅ። ዕብ ፋራቅ። ሱር ፍራቅ) To divide; to separate. To save, to deliver; to rescue; to redeem; to bring out from a trap, from the hand of the enemy. But in Tigre it is ፈርቀ/ färḳä, meaning it budded.

ፈሪድ ዶት/ Färid Dot: (ፈረደ ይፈርድ ይፍርድ። ዕብ ፋራድ) To judge; to separate; to stretch out.

ፈሪጽ ጾት/ Färiṣ Ṣot: (ፈረጸ ይፈርጽ ይፍርጽ። ዕብ ፋራጽ) To break, to pierce; to perforate, to split.

ፈራሂ/ Färahi: (ሂት ህያን ያት) One who fears; fearful; respectful. ለፈራሄ እግዚ ይሤኒ ደኃሪቱFor those who fear God, their end will be good: (ድጓ).

ፈራህ/ Färah: (ህት ሃን ሃት) This is the same; fearful; timid; cowardly; anxious. The thoughts of mortals are timid, and all the anxiety of the heart turns to fear. ለምንት ፈራሃን አንትሙWhy are you fearful? (ጥበ፱: ፲፬። ዮሴፍ። ማቴ፰: ፳፮).

ፈራቂ/ Färaḳi: (ህት ሃን ሃት) This is the same; fearful; timid; cowardly; anxious. “ኅሊናሆሙ ለመዋትያን ፈራህ ከመ ይትመየጥ ኵሉ ፈራሀ ልብ።The thoughts of mortals are timid, and all the anxiety of the heart turns to fear. “ለምንት ፈራሃን አንትሙWhy are you fearful?: (ጥበ፱: ፲፬። ዮሴፍ። ማቴ፰: ፳፮).

ፈራዪ/ Färayyi: (ዪት ይያን ያት) Blooming; bearing fruit; fruitful; fertile; productive.

ፈራዲ/ Färadi: One who judges and separates; judge.

ፈርሐ/ Färḥa: (ትግ ወዐረ) He rejoiced; he was pleased; joy filled him.

ፈርኅ/ Färḥ: (ዐረብ። ዕብ ኤፍሮሕ) Chick; fledgling; young of a chicken or bird; small; baby bird.

ፈርሙኒ/ Färmuni: (ቅብጥ) Name of a month; April. See በርሙዳ/ Bärmuda; it is the same as this. “በርሙዳ ይሰመይ ፈርሙኒBärmuda is called Färmuni: (አቡሻ: ).

ፈርሰክ/ Färsäk: Persian number. “ፈርሰክ ሐሳበ ፋርስ ወሰብአ ምሥራቅ፤ ወፈርሰክሰ ብሂል አርባዕቱ ምዕራፍFärsäk is the thought of Persia and the people of the East; and färsäksä means the four corners: (: : : ገ፲፭).

ፈርሰወ/ Färsäwä: (ተቀ ግ። ዕብ ፋርሴም) Its disgrace was brought out; it was separated, revealed, made known; of evil. It became disgraceful.

ፈርሳዊ/ Färsawi: One who reveals disgrace. Disgraceful; potbellied.

ፈርስ/ Färs: (ዕብ ፌሬሽ: (ዐማርኛ).

ፈርቅ/ Färḳ: (ዐረ። ዕብ ፌሬቅ) Difference; part; chapter; of a cell, of a book. Turn, shift.

ፈርተት/ Färtät: (ትግሬ) Roasted grain; roasted grain fruit. ፍርንትት/ fərtəntət; swelling of the groin. When plural, it is called “ፈራቲትfäratit.

ፈርነሰ/ Färnäsä: (ዕብ ፋርኔስ) He surrounded and nourished; he fed and satisfied; he laid down to sleep; he pleased; he made happy. See ፈርዘዘ/ färzäzä; it is a cognate of this.

ፈርናሲ/ Färnasi: (ዕብ ፋርናስ) Nourisher, feeder; commander; head of the household; chief baker; provider; one who lays down to sleep; one who spreads out.

ፈርዐጸ አው አንፈርዐጸ/ Färaṣä ṣä aw anfäraṣä: He jumped; he leaped; he skipped; he hopped; he shone; he sparkled. “መጽአ እንዘ ያንፈርዕጽ ከመ መፍልስ።He came leaping like a flea. “ያንፈርዕጹ አድባር።The mountains leaped. “እንስሳ እለ ያንፈርዕጹ።Animals that leap. “ተፈሥሑ ወአንፈርዕጹ።Rejoice and leap. “አንፈርዐጹ ሰብአ ሰገል ረኪቦሙ ሕፃነThe Magi leaped when they found the child: (ኩፋ: ፴፯። ኢሳ፶፭: ፲፪። ጥበ፲፯: ፲፰። ቀሌ። ድጓ).

ፈርዐጽ/ Färaṣ: (ዕብ ፋርዖሽ) Flea; a flea that jumps and hops.

ፈርዖን/ Färon: (ዕብ ፋርዖህ) A mans name; tyrant; oppressor; means one who makes people enter the grave. It is said that he used to take 200 birr for a single persons grave. His original name was Reqyon; after him, the name Pharaoh was given to the king of Egypt.

ፈርከሊሳ/ Färkälisa: (ዕብ ፋርኪል) A cluster of grapes with its tendrils; the core of a fragrant wood with its fruit. “ማርያም ጽጌ ዘትምዕዚ እምፈርከሊሳMary, a flower that is more beautiful than färkälisa: (ደራሲ).

ፈርርዝዞ ዞት/ Färzəzzo Zot: (ፈርዘዘ ይፈረዝዝ ይፈርዝዝ። ዕብ ፋራዝ፤ ዐብየ ልህቀ) To make happy. For a flower to bear fruit; to bud, to sprout; to become thick, to conceive; to bloom, to give birth, to enumerate; of grain and plants.

ፈርይ ዮት/ Färy Yot: (ፈርየ፤ ፈረየ ይፈሪ ይፍረይ። ዕብ ፋራሀ፤ ፋራሕ። ሱር ፍራእ) To clap hands; to bloom; for a tree to put forth flowers; fruit from conception. “ወይፈሪ ከመ ተክል ሐዲስ።And it shall blossom like a new plant. “ይሠርጽ ወይፈሪ እስራኤል።Israel shall take root and blossom. “ይፈሪ ከመ ጽጌ ረዳIt shall blossom like a rose: (ኢዮ፲፬: ፱። ኢሳ፳፯: ፮። ፴፭: ).

To produce; to give birth; to multiply, to increase, to swarm; to bear much fruit, to produce. “ጸናሕክዎ ይፍረይ አስካለ ወፈረየ አሥዋክ።I waited for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. “ፈረየት ምድረ ግብጽ ብዙኀ ሥርናየ።The land of Egypt yielded much wheat. “ወኢይፈርዩ አዕጹቂሃ።And her trees did not bear fruit. “መካን እንተ ፈረየትA barren woman who bore fruit: (ኢሳ፭: ፪። ኩፋ: ፵። ሢራ፳፫: ፳፭። አርጋ: ).

To become fat, to grow big; to swell; to become plump; to become fleshy; by itself.

ፈርድ/ Färd: Singular of ፈርጅ/ färj; not double.

ፈርገገ/ Färgägä: (ፈገገ፤ ስሯጽ ነው) It healed; it dried up; it became scarred; a scar, of a wound. “ወለእመ ፈርገገ ሥጋሁ ውስተ ርምያተ ቍስሉAnd if his flesh heals in the place of the boil: (ዘሌ፲፫: ፲፰ና: ፳፬).

ፈርገግ/ Färgäg: Healing; sign of a wound; scar; mark.

ፈርጽ/ Färṣ: ( አፍራጽ) precious stone; ornament; precious stone; pearl; piece of pearl; chip; set and worn in gold. “እለ ስርግዋን በአፍራጽ ወልቡጣን በቈጽለ ወርቅ።Those whose crowns are of precious stones and their necklaces of gold leaves. “ውስተ ሣጹን ዘእብነ አፍራጽ ዘውእቱ ርኳምIn a chest of precious stones, which is a reliquary: (መጽ: ምስ። ስንክ: ኅዳ፲፯).

ፈርፈረ/ Färfärä: (ፈሪር ፈረ። ዕብ ፋርፌር) It crumbled, it broke into pieces; it pounded, it shattered; it gathered together; of injera (Ethiopian flatbread). Its root and origin is ፈሪር/ färir.

ፈቀረ/ Fäḳärä: (ዕብ ያቃር) It became heavy; it was loved; it was honored; of weight, of price. Like saying, What did it cost me?.

ፈቂር ሮት/ Fäḳir Rot: (ፈቀረ ይፈቅር ይፍቅር። ዕብ ፋቃር) To be lawless; to change the law; to destroy; to deny; to abandon. But in Arabic, it means poor, beggar, miser.

ፈቂቅ ቆት/ Fäḳiḳ Ḳot: (ፈቀ ይፈቅቅ ይፍቅቅ። ዕብ ፋቃቅ) To step aside, to move away, to be separate; to slip away.

ፈቂዕ ዖት/ Fäḳi Ot: (ፈቅዐ ይፈቅዕ ይፍቃዕ። ዕብ ፋቄዕ። ዐረ ፈቃእ) To split open; to pierce; to cleave; to split, to divide; to strike, to wound; to perforate; to break. “ከመ ይትክሉ ሞግአ ኀጺን ላዕለ ቅጽረ ሀይከል ወይፍቅዑ ቦቱ ቅጽረ።So that they could place iron bars on the wall of the temple and pierce the wall with them. “ይፈቅዑ ገጾ በአርማሐ እሳት።They pierce his face with burning coals. “ፈቅዕዎ ርእሶ እስከ ውሕዘ ደሙ ከመ ማይThey struck his head until his blood flowed like water: (ዮሴፍ። ራእ: ማር። አዋል። ማሕ፭: ፯። ሉቃ፳: ፲፪).

ፈቂድ/ Fäḳid: (ፈቀደ ይፈቅድ ይፍቅድ። ዕብ ፋቃድ) To permit; to visit; to count; to think, to guess, to examine. “ኢትኅድግ ዘልፈ ፈቂደ እንስሳከ።Do not neglect the constant care of your animals. “አሐዱ እምቅዱሳን ተስዐቱ እለ ይፈቅዱOne of the nine saints who visit: (ሢራ፯: ፳፪። ስንክ: ኅዳ፳፰).

To love; to desire; to want, to wish. As I live, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked. “ኢትፍቅድ ብዙኀ ውሉደ።Do not desire many children. “እለ ኢይፈቅድዎ ለወርቅ።Those who do not desire gold. “ብዙኃን እለ ፈቀድዋMany who desired it: (ሕዝ፲፰: ፳፫። ሢራ፲፮: ፩። ኢሳ፲፫: ፲፯። ዮዲ፲፮: ፳፪).

ፈቃዲ/ Fäḳadi: (ዲት ድያን ያት፤ ቀድ) One who permits; one who loves; willing friend; seeker. “እስመ ፈቃዴ ምሕረት ውእቱ።For He is pleased with mercy. “ኢይኩኑ ሐማይያነ ወኢፈቃድያነ እከይ ለምእመናንLet them not be slanderers or lovers of evil to the believers: (ሚክ፯: ፲፰። : : ).

Official; sorcerer, astrologer. “ውስተ እደዊሆሙ ለፈቀድ።In the hands of the officials. “ለማእምራን ወለፈቃድያንFor the wise and the officials: (፪ዜና: ፴፬: ፲፯። ፬ነገ: ፳፫: ፳፫).

ፈቃዳዊ/ Fäḳadawi: Willing; voluntary. “ይሰምዮ ለስካር እበደ ፈቃዳዌHe calls drunkenness voluntary madness: (: : ).

ፈቃድ/ Fäḳad: (ዳት) command; love; consent; thought; wish; desire; longing. “ገበርነ ፈቃደ ሥጋነ።We did the desires of our flesh. “ግበር ፈቃዳ ለእምከ።Do the will of your mother. “በፈቃድ ወኢበኵርህ።Willingly and not grudgingly. “ፈቃደ ኅሊናሆሙThe desire of their hearts: (ኤፌ፪: ፫። ኩፋ: ፳፭። : : : ፫። ዘፍ፮: ).

ፈቅአ/ Fäḳa: He chewed; ፈቂዕ ፈቅዐ/ fäḳiä fäḳa.

ፈተና/ Fätäna: (ዕብ ፌቴን፤ ነዘር እባብ) This is the same; trial; temptation. “ወኮነ ላዕሌሁ ፈተና ዐቢይAnd a great trial came upon him: (ገድ: ኪሮ).

ፈቲሕ ሖት/ Fätiḥ Ḥot: (ፈትሐ ይፈትሕ ይፍታሕ። ዕብ ፋታሕ። ሱር ፍታሕ። ዐረ ፈተሐ) To open; to reveal; to remove the lock and the lid; to lift up. “ፈትሐ ኪሰ። He opened the purse. “ኵሉ ተባዕ ዘይፈትሕ ማሕፀነ።Every male who opens the womb. “ፍታሕ አፉሁ ወእዘኒሁ። Open his mouth and his ears. “ፈቲሐከ እዴከ።He opened your hand. “ርጢናት እለ ይፈትሓ ሕብጠተVeins that open the abdomen: (ሉቃ፪: ፳፫። ኩፋ: ፲፪። መዝ: ፻፫። : : : ).

ፈቲን ኖት/ Fätin Not: (ፈተነ ይፈትን ይፍትን። ዐረ ፈተን። ዕብ ባሐን) To test; to try. To think, to examine. To seek, to search thoroughly, to investigate. To ask; to spy; to know ones character and measure. See መከረ/ mäkärä; it is related to this. “ፈተኑኒ ወርእዩ ምግባርየ።Test me and see my deeds. “ይፈትን ልበ ወኵልያተ።He tests the heart and the kidneys. “እስኩ ፍትን ለሊከ በልብከ።Now test yourself in your heart. “ወፈተነ ላባ ኵሎ ቤታ ለራሔል ወኢረከበ።And Laban searched all of Rachels tent and did not find it. “እንዘ ይፈትን ንዋዮሙ።While testing their possessions. “ከመ ይፍትን ሀገረThey test the laws. ፈታቲ/ Fätati: (ቲት ትያን ያት) One who crumbles; one who cuts; cutter.

ፈታኒ/ Fätani: One who tests; tester; examiner. “እግዚ ፈታኔ አልባብ።God, tester of hearts. “ፈታኔ ኢዮብ በደዌ ወአበቅTester of Job with illness and boils: (መጽ: ምስ። ጥበ: ጠቢ).

ፈታዊ/ Fätawi: (ዊት ውያን ያት) One who desires; loving friend; covetous. “ዕቡያን ወፈታውያን።The proud and the covetous. “ፈታውያነ ጽዕለት።Lovers of labor. “ኢትኩን ፈታዌDo not be covetous: (ቀሌ። ምሳ፩: ፳፪። : : ፲፩).

ፈትል/ Fätl: (ላት) left thread; or warp and weft; thread; rope; wire; telephone. “ፈትል ሥሉስ ፍጡነ ኢይትበተክ።A threefold cord is not quickly broken. “ልብሰት እንተ ክዑብ ፈትሉ።Garments of fine linen. “ፈትለ ዐጌ።Thread of agate. “ፈትለ ሣሬት።Thread of silk. “ፈትለ ብሩር።Silver thread. “ፈትለ ወርቅ ወፈትለ ሜላትGold thread and thread of melat: (መክ፬: ፲፪። ሢራ፵፭: ፲፩። ስንክ: ጥቅ፳። አፈ: ተ፴፬። ዘፀ፴፭: ፳፭። ደራሲ).

ፈትቶ ቶት/ Fätto Tot: (ፈተተ ይፌትት ይፈትት። ዕብ ፋታት) To crumble; to break into pieces; to split, to divide; to be divided; to be shattered; to gather together. “ነፋስ ዘይፌትቶ ለኰኵሕ።The wind that breaks the rocks. “ወፈቲቶ ወሀበ።And he broke it and gave it. “እንዘ ይፌትት ኅብስተ።While breaking bread. “ጸሎተ ፈትቶPrayer of breaking: (፫ነገ: ፲፱: ፲፩። ማቴ፲፬: ፲፱። ሉቃ፳፬: ፴፭። ቅዳ).

ፈኒን/ Fänin: (ፈነ፤ ፈነነ ይፈንን ይፍንን) To appear clearly; to become manifest; to be bright, luminous, radiant; or to make so.

ፈናዊ/ Fänawi: One who sends; sender; dispatcher. “ ፈናዌ እሳት ዲበ አህጉር ኀምስቱ።O sender of fire upon the five regions. “አብ ፈናዌ ወልድ።Father, sender of the Son. “ነአምን አበ ፈናዌWe believe in the Father who sends: (ጥበ: ጠቢ: አፈ: ድ፫። ቅዳ: ሕር).

ፈናፍንታም/ Fänafəntam: Hermaphrodite; this is Amharic. Impotent man; impotent; having the signs of both male and female in one place; having femininity added to his masculinity; because of this, able to be like a woman to men and like a man to women. A shameless person who says, I am everything. “ፈናፍንታም ውእቱሂ ዘቦቱ ኀፍረተ ተባዕት ወአንስት ኅቡረ በአሐዱ መካንA hermaphrodite is one who has the private parts of both male and female together in one place: (: : ፳፬: ). This is not only in humans; it is found in all animals and wild beasts; but it is said that a hyena never becomes a hermaphrodite but retains its original nature. ፈናፍንት/ Fänafənt: defect; blemish; shameful; disgusting, repulsive.

ፈንቀለ/ Fänḳälä: (ነቂል ነቀለ) He dug up; he unearthed; he removed, he took away; he uprooted; he dug, he excavated; see ነቀለ/ näḳälä. ፈነገለ/ Fänäggälä means he went out from here; / ke / ge they inherit directly. ፈንደደ/ Fändädä: He defecated; he dropped dung; he sat down.

ፈንዶት/ Fändot: ( ፈናዱት፤ ትግሬ) Buttocks; anus; place where dung comes out; seat, base, place.

ፈንጠረ/ Fänṭärä: (ትግሬ) He sprang up; he caused to spring up, he made to jump; he scattered, he dispersed; he threw (ዐማርኛ).

ፈንጻጻ/ Fänṣaṣa: Measles; smallpox; a disease of wounds; coming out on all organs including the eyes; a type of scabies. See በደዶ/ bädädo; it is the same as this. “እመሂ ፈንጻጻ ወእመሂ ብድብድWhether it is measles or chickenpox: (አዋል). But Tigreans call syphilis smallpox, and Amharas also metaphorically call syphilis smallpox, like saying, Soandso has broken out with smallpox. Since syphilis means a disease of the buttocks and anus that comes from jumping, the name smallpox is more suitable for syphilis than for measles. Syphilis came after Gragn; it is said that strong travelers brought it; because its type and name are many, they call it ማጭዴ ዝኆኔ/ atere məsre, ማጭዴ ዝኆኔ/ mač̣ide zəḫone, ወንዴ ሴቴ/ wände sete, “ቀሚሴ ድኺቴḳämise dəḫite, ይስማ ሰራዊት/ yəsəmma särawit.

ፈንጽጾ/ Fänṣəṣo: (ፈንጸጸ ይፈነጽጽ ይፈንጽጽ) To spring up; to stick together; to adhere; fiṭ means afterwards. ፊንጥጣ/ Finṭəṭṭa means what comes out from here.

ፈንፈነ/ Fänfänä: (ትግ ሐባብ) He criticized beer; he despised. He caused to despise; he became disgraceful.

ፈዐወ/ Fäawä: (አፈወ። ዕብ ፋዔህ) He cried out, he called; he whistled; he blew strongly, he breathed, he groaned; because of illness and distress. See አፈወንና ገዐረን/ äfäwä and gäärä.

ፈኣሚ/ Fäami: One who feeds, feeder.

ፈከረ/ Fäkärä: (ዐረ ፈሰረ። ዕብ ፋታር) He interpreted; he solved; he explained; he detailed; to explain; of a dream, of a book, of a language. “ሐለምነ ሕልመ ወኀጣእነ ዘይፌክር ለነ ወይፌክር ለነ መጻሕፍተ።We dreamed a dream, and we lacked someone to interpret it for us, and the books interpret for us. “ዕጹብ ነገሩ ወኢይትከሀል ይፈክርዎIts matter is wonderful and it is impossible to interpret it: (ዘፍ፵: ፰። ሉቃ፳፬: ፴፪። ዕብ፭: ፲፩).

ፈካሪ/ Fäkari: (ሪት ርያን ያት) one who interprets. Interpreter; solver. Sabella, daughter of Hilkiah, interpreter of dreams: (ስንክ: ጥር፪).

ፈክሮ ሮት/ Fäkro Rot: (ፈከረ፤ ይፌክር ይፈክር። ዐረ ፈከረ፤ ዐሰበ። ዕብ ፋካር፤ ጣለ) To boast, to brag; to speak, to talk about ones profession; to boast in ones profession; to pride oneself; to make a challenge; to count victims.

ፈዊዝ ዞት/ Fäwiz Zot: (ፎዘ ይፈውዝ ይፉዝ) To polish; to burnish; to wipe away dirt and rust; to scrub; to renew, to strengthen; to completely purify; of gold, of silver, of minerals: (አርጋ: ፫ና: ).

ፈዋሲ/ Fäwasi: (ሲት ስያን ያት) One who heals; healer; doctor. “ፈዋሲሁ ለልብየ።Healer of my heart. “ፈዋሴ ዱያን በንፍኀቱHealer of the sick with his breath: (ኪዳ። ደራሲ).

ፈውስ/ Fäws: (ሳት) good medicine; that which saves and cures. “ለገቢረ ፈውስ።For the work of healing. “ፍሬሁ ለሲሳይ ወቈጽሉ ለፈውስ።Its fruit for food and its leaves for healing. “አልባቲ ፈውስ ለቍስላ።There is no cure for her wound. “ፈውሰ ደዌሆሙThe healing of their sickness: (አፈ: ተ፱። ሕዝ፵፯: ፲፪። ሢራ፳፩: ፫። ኩፋ: ).

Bad medicine; that which harms, kills, and is a charm. He who makes a charm and goes to a diviner and listens to the words of healers and believes: (ቀሌ). “እብነ ፈውስ፤ ኩል፤ ያይን መድኀኒትEye medicine; kohl; eye medicine: (ራእ፫: ፲፰). Book of healing; book of medicine; physical or spiritual; penance, canon; containing the order of the church; like the Fetha Negest.

ፈውስ መንፈሳዊ/ Fäws mänfäsawi: Spiritual healing; this is the same; name of a book; book of canon law.

ፈውሶ ሶት/ Fäwso Sot: (ፈወሰ ይፌውስ ይፈውስ። ዐረ ሸፋ) To heal; to save; to cure; to give medicine. “ዐቃቤ ሥራይ ፈውስ ርእሰከ።Guardian of the charm, heal yourself. “ፈነወኒ ከመ እፈውስከ።He sent me to heal you. “እፌውሰክሙ ቍስለክሙ።I will heal your wounds. “ፈወስናሃ ለባቢሎን ወኢሐይወት።We healed Babylon, but she was not healed. “መኑ ይፌውሰኪWho will heal you? ፈያት/ Fäyat [1]: Bandit, robber; thief; invader, plunderer; thief, cutthroat. “ለሊከ ቀተልኮ፤ ወናሁ ትትዐወቅ ከመ ፈያት አንተYou killed your man, and now you are known as a bandit: (፫ነገ: : ).

[2]: () ፈያት/ Fäyat; bandits; thieves; robbers. “ቦኑ በኣት ፈያት ውእቱ ቤትየ።For my house is a den of robbers. “ወበርባንሰ ሊቀ ፈያት።And Barabbas was a notorious robber. “ቦኡ ፈያት ውስተ ቤት ወነሥኡ ንዋየRobbers entered the house and took the possessions: (ኤር: ፲፩። ማቴ፳፯: ፲፮። ቀሌ).

ፈይቶ ቶት/ Fäyto Tot: (ፈየተ ይፌይት ይፈይት። ዕብ ሽላል) To raid, to plunder; to seize, to snatch away; to steal, to cut off. “ለጋድ ፈየትዎ ፈያት፤ ወውእቱሂ ፈየቶሙRaiders raided Gad, but he raided their heels: (ዘፍ፵፱: ፲፱).

 to be at the front; to be first; to stand face to face; to confront.

ፈደለ/ Fädälä: (ዐረ () ደለ) It increased; it remained; it exceeded the limit. “ዘፍዱል ኀጢአቱWhose sin is abundant: (አዋል).

ፈዲል ሎት/ Fädil Lot: (ፈደለ ይፈድል፤ ይፍድል። ዕብ ባዳል። ዐረ ፈጸለ) To separate; to choose; to set aside; of sheaves, of seeds, of good things. To indicate; to mark; with pencil, with ink. To fabricate; to write something that does not exist, creating it from nothing; or to embellish; to lie, to invent; of evil. Soandso speaks with fabrication; like saying, This is what you fabricated.

ፈዳዪ/ Fädayi: One who pays; payer; giver. “ፈዳዬ ዕዳ።Payer of debt. “ፈዳዪሃ ለዛቲ ኀጢአት Payer for this sin. “መኑ ውእቱ ፈዳዬ ዐስብ፤ አኮኑ እግዚWho is the one who pays the reward; is it not God? (አርጋ። ሔኖ፯: ፫። ዲድ: ፴፭).

ፈድይ ዮት/ Fädy Yot: (ፈደየ ይፈዲ ይፍዲ። ዕብ ፋዳህ። ዐረ ፈዳ፤ ቤዘወ) To pay skin (ransom) to return a loan; to give a price. “ወኀጢኦ ዘይፈዲ።And sin that pays. “ፍድዪ ዕዳኪ።Pay your debt. “ፈድየ ልቃሕ።I paid the loan. “ወይፈድዮ ለኵሉ በከመ ምግባሩAnd he will repay everyone according to his deeds: (ማቴ፲፰: ፳፭። ፬ነገ: : ፯። : : ፳፯። ኢዮ፴፬: ፲፩).

ፈድፋደ/ Fädfadä: Very; extremely; exceedingly; more; rather; more than many. See ṭəḳä; it is related to this. “ተከዘ ፈድፋደ።He was exceedingly sad. “ወፈርሆ እንከ ፈድፋደ።And they feared exceedingly. “ጻድቅ ወጠቢብ ፈድፋደ።The righteous and the wise exceedingly. “ኢየሐዩ ፈድፋደ እምእት ወዕሥራ ወኀምስቱ ዓመት።They did not live more than twentyfive years. “ሀገር ዘሀለዉ ውስቴታ ሰብእ ፈድፋደ እምዐሠርቱ ወክልኤቱ እልፍ።A country in which there were more than twelve thousand people. “ወፈድፋደ ጸንዑ እምቀደምቶሙAnd they became exceedingly stronger than before: (ሉቃገ፲፰: ፳፫። ፩ነገ: ፲፰: ፳፱። መክ፯: ፲፮። ኩፋ: ፴፭። ዮና፬: ፲፩። መዝ: ፻፴፰). When ṭəḳä is added to it, it becomes inclusive, completely, absolutely, never. You are very exceedingly good. And they feared very exceedingly. “ወፈድፋደ ጥቀAnd exceedingly very: (ሕዝ፲፮: ፲፫። ዮዲ፬: ፪። : ፲፰).

ፈድፋድ/ Fädfad: (ዳት) Firmness; strength. Remainder; surplus; residue; superiority. “ወፈድፋዶንሰ እምእላ።And indeed, his remainder is from them. “ወፈድፋዳተኒ።And their remainders. “ምንት ፈድፋዶሙ እምኔነ።What is their superiority over us? “ዛቲ ባሕቲታ ፈድፋዶሙThis one alone is their superiority: (መዝ: ፹፱። ዘኍ፬: ፳፮። ሔኖ፻፪: ፯። ሄርማ).

ፈድፍዶ ዶት/ Fädfədo Dot: (Related verb forms: fädfädä, yifädfəd. Ar. fadda; fädfädä; fʷadädä; it became abundant; he ran, he flew) To become abundant; to multiply; to be honored with children; beyond measure and number; to exceed the limit and measure, to be excessive; to excel, to surpass; to be firm, to be strong. ፈድፈዱ ወበዝኁ ጥቀ፤ ወከማሁ ይፈደፍዱ።They multiplied and became very numerous; and thus they will multiply. ወኮነ ኵሉ መዋዕለ ትንቢቱ ዕሥራ ዓመት ወዘይፈደፍድ።And all the days of his prophecy were twenty years and more. ተወሰከ ዘመኑ ወፈድፈደ እምነ ኍልቍ።His time increased and became more than the number. አልቦ ዘእፈደፍደከ አነ።There is no one who will surpass you. ወንፈድፍድ ውስተ ትሩፋት።And let us abound in good deeds. ቃለ ንጉሥሰ ፈድፈደ እምቃለ ኢዮአብIndeed, the kings word prevailed over the word of Joab: (ኩፋ: ፵፮። ስንክ: ጥር፲፭። ነሐ፬። ዘፍ፵፩: ፵። ማር: ይሥ፪: ፰። ፩ዜና: ፳፩: ). Instead of ፈድፈደ/ fädfädä, it says ተፈድፈደ/ täfädfädä; it is a mistake. “ከመ ይትፈድፈድ ውስተ አእምሮ ወጥያቄSo that he might delve into understanding and inquiry: (ፊልክ: ፻፵፫).

ፈገ/ Fägä: He finished, he consumed; he ate; he burned; he scorched, he agitated. ፈገፈገ/ Fägäfgägä and አፈገፈገ/ äfägäfgägä are derived from this.

ፈጊር ሮት/ Fägir Rot: (ፈገረ ይፈግር ይፍግር። ዕብ ፋጌር፤ ደከመ። ትግ ሐባ ፈግረ፤ ወጣ) To become exhausted, to be weary; to be worn out; to go out. To become tired, to rest, to die; to become a corpse. The Wollo peoples word for buttocks, ፈጋራ/ fägara, and the Habab peoples word for east, ምፍጋር/ məfgar, are derived from this.

ፈጊዕ/ Fägiʿ: Satiety; drunkenness. በስታይ ወበፈጊዕWith gluttony and drunkenness: (ሉቃ፳፩: ፴፬። ዲድ: ).

ፈጊግ ጎት/ Fägig Got: (ፈገ፤ ፈገገ ይፈግግ ይፍግግ) To pant; to snort; to bellow; to roar; to cross over; to shine; to be bright. See ፈርገገ/ färägägä; it is a derivative of this. to shine, to give light; to gleam, to shine; of the sky. See ጎሐ/ goḥa.

ፈግዖ ዖት/ Fägʿo ʿOt: (ፈግዐ ይፌግዕ ይፈግዕ። ዐረ ፈኪሀ። ዕብ ፋጋዕ፤ አገኘ ደረሰ ነካ ዳሰሰ) To take complete pleasure; to bloom, to blossom; to be very happy; because of eating, drinking, comfort, and abundance of possessions. በልዑ ወጸግቡ ወሠብሑ ወፈግዑ በበረከትከ።They ate and were satisfied and praised and rejoiced in your abundance. ወካልእ ይፌግዕ በንዋዩ።And another rejoices in his wealth. ዘኢፈጸመ ሕይወቶ በዲበ ምድር ወኢፈግዐ በሠናያት።He who did not complete his life on earth and did not rejoice in good things. እለ ይፌግዑ ውስተ ምስካባቲሆሙThose who rejoice in their beds: (፪ዕዝ: : ፳፭። ሢራ፲፬: ፬። ግንዘ። ዓሞ፮: ). Instead of ፈግዐ/ fägʿa, it says ተፈግዐ/ täfägʿa; it is a mistake. እምትደለው ወትትፈጋዕ በቤተ ባዕድ በንዋየ ነኪር።You will be prepared and rejoice in a foreign house with strange possessions. ይትፌሥሑ ወይትሐሠዩ ወይትፌግዑ በተውኔት።They rejoice and are glad and take pleasure in acting. ንዑኬ ንትፈጋዕ በዘሀሎ ሠናያት።Come, let us rejoice in the good things that exist. እለ ይትፌግዑ በብዕሎሙThose who rejoice in their possessions: (ሢራ፳፱: ፳፪። ቀሌ። ጥበ፪: ፮። ኪዳ).

ፈጠራ/ Fäṭära: fabricated thing. መተርጕመ ፈጠራ።Interpretation of fabrication. ሰብአ ፈጠራ።People of fabrication. ይሜህሩ ፈጠራThey teach fabrication: (: : ፲፩። መጽ: ምስ).

Mark; tattoo; scar; branding; ornament. Plucking the face and hair; shaving, balding; of mourning. A sorcerers amulet; root; that which is spoken and tied. ዘይገብር ፈጠራ ውስተ ሥጋሁ።He who makes a mark on his body. ኢትፍጥሩ ለክሙ ፈጠራYou shall not make any cuttings in your flesh: (ቀሌ። ዘሌ፲፱: ፳፰).

ፈጢር ሮት/ Fäṭir Rot: (ፈጠረ ይፈጥር ይፍጥር። ዐረ ፈጠረ፤ ፈለጠ ሠነጠቀ። ዕብ ፋጣር፤ ፈታ ከፈተ፤ የማሕፀን) To create; to bring into existence; to bring from nonexistence to existence. ግብር እምግብር መሥራት፤ ማድረግ፤ ማበጀት፤ ማዘጋጀት፤ ዐዲስ ነገር ማውጣት፤ መውለድ።To make work from work; to do; to arrange; to prepare; to bring out something new; to give birth. እስመ ፈጠርክዎሙ።For you created them. ዘእንበለ እፍጥርከ አእመርኩከ።Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. ኢተፈነወት ኀጢአት ዲበ ምድር፤ አላ ሰብእ እምርእሶሙ ፈጠርዋ።Sin was not sent upon the earth; but people created it from themselves. ዘፈጠረ እምልቡ።He who created from his heart. ወይትካሐዱ በቃል ዘለሊሆሙ ፈጠሩAnd they deny with words that they created with their tongues: (ዘፍ፮: ፯። ኤር፩: ፭። ሔኖ። ፫ነገ: ፲፪: ፴፪። ፪ጴጥ: : ). Poets interpret it as he loved and cite poetry as evidence. Moses created his creator; and the creator created him. It is not found in the books.

ፈጢን ኖት/ Fäṭin Not: (ፈጠነ ይፈጥን ይፍጥን። የነጠፈ ግልብጥ) To hasten; to be quick; to hurry; to rush; to be agitated; to say quickly, quickly; of the conduct of work. ይፈጥን መብረቅ በፈቃዱ።Lightning flashes quickly at his will. ወበቃሉ ይፈጥን ሑረቱ።And at his word his movement is swift. ሑሰታ ለጥበብ ይፈጥን እምኵሉ ሑሰትThe movement of wisdom is swifter than all movement: (ሢራ፵፫: ፭ና: ፲፫። ጥበ፯: ፳፬).

ፈጣሪ/ Fäṭari: one who brings into existence; producer; maker; doer. ለያማሕፅኑ ነፍሶሙ ኀበ ምእመን ፈጣሪ።So that they may commit their souls to a faithful Creator. ፈጣሬ ሰማያት ወምድር።Creator of heaven and earth. ፈጣሬ ነገርCreator of things: (፩ጴጥ: : ፲፱። ዮዲ፲፫: ፲፰። ኪዳ). In proverbs also, a hare is a creator of poetry; a matter is for its creator; a thorn for its remover.

ፈጣን/ Fäṭan: swift; quick. እምዝኩ ሞት ፈጣን።Death is swifter than this. ፀአቱ ፈጣንIts exit is quick: (አዋል).

ፈፀንት/ Fäṣänt: Inflammation; fever; heat; pain; diarrhea; thirst; cold. በይእቲ ንስቲት ፈፀንት ሞተ።He died in that small fever. ዘይደዊ በሕማመ ፈፀንት።He who is sick with the disease of fever. ወእምዝ አኀዞ ሕማመ ፈፀንት ዘይትመያየጥ ኀቤሁ በበ ራብዕትAnd after this, the disease of fever seized him, which came upon him every fourth day: (መቃ: ገ፫። አፈ: ተ፪። ዮሴፍ).

ፈጺሕ ሖት/ Fäṣih Ḥot: (Related verb forms: fäṣḥa, yifäṣəḥ, yifṣaḥ. Heb. paṣaḥ. Ar. faṣaḥa) To grind; to cut; to crush, to pound; to break, to shatter; to split, to cleave; to carve, to engrave. እንተ ትፈጽሖ ለኵሉ ምድር።Who grinds the whole earth. ለብርት ከመ እብን ይፈጽሕዎThey grind it like a stone for strength. ኢትንድቆ ፈጺሐከDo not break your carved stones: (ኤር፳፯: ፳፭። ኢዮ፳፰: ፪። ዘፀ፳: ፳፭። ሄርማ).

ፈፂም/ Fäṣim: (ፈፀመ ይፌፅም ይፍፅም። ዕብ ፋጤም፤ ቀለበ አሠባ) To close; to suffocate; to block; to spit, to drool. እፌፅም መንገዳ።I will close her way. ከመ ይፍፅም አናቅጺሃ።So that he may close your nostrils. ዘይፌፅም እዘኒሁ።He who closes his ears. ፈፀመ አፈ አናብስት።He closed the mouths of lions. አምኃ ወሕልያን ይፌፅም አፉሆሙGifts and thoughts close their mouths: (ሆሴ፪: ፰። ሕዝ፳፩: ፳፪። ዳን፮: ፳፪። ሢራ፳: ፳፱).

ፈፂን ኖት/ Fäṣin Not: (ፈፀነ ይፈፅን ይፍፅን) To be angry; to be furious; to be sad; to be sick; to be hot; to burn; to be feverish; of malaria. To have chills; to have labor pains; to sit down. ፈፀነ በላሐ ሞቱ።He was furious at the time of his death. እመ ከመ ፈፀነ በፍኖት።If there was anyone who was furious on the way. ወረከባ እንዘ ትፈፅንAnd he found her lying sick with fever: (ኩፋ: ፴፬ና: ፵፪። ማቴ፰: ፲፬).

ፈጻሚ/ Fäṣami: (ፈፀነ ይፈፅን ይፍፅን) one who finishes; finisher. እግዚ ወጣኔ ኵሉ ወፈጻሜ ኵሉGod is the arranger of all and the finisher of all: (ቅዳ).

ፈፂም ሞት/ Fäṣim Mot: (ፈፀመ ይፌፅም ይፍፅም። ዕብ ፋጤም፤ ቀለበ አሠባ) To close; to suffocate; to block; to spit, to drool. እፌፅም መንገዳ።I will close her way. ከመ ይፍፅም አናቅጺሃ።So that he may close your nostrils. ዘይፌፅም እዘኒሁ።He who closes his ears. ፈፀመ አፈ አናብስት።He closed the mouths of lions. አምኃ ወሕልያን ይፌፅም አፉሆሙGifts and thoughts close their mouths: (ሆሴ፪: ፰። ሕዝ፳፩: ፳፪። ዳን፮: ፳፪። ሢራ፳: ፳፱).

ፈፃኒ/ Fäṣani: (ኒት ንያን ያት፤ ፀንት) Angry person; feverish person; inflamed person; one with chills.

ፈጽሞ ሞት/ Fäṣəmo Mot: (ፈጸመ ይፌጽም ይፈጽም። ዕብ ፋጻም፤ ሰበረ ጣለ) To complete; to fill; to finish; to conclude; to accomplish; to make perfect and complete. See መልአ/ mälaən; it is the same as this. ፈጽሙ መስፈርተ።May he fulfill all your desires for you. ፈጽሙ መስፈርተ።Fulfill the measure. ወትፌጽም እዴሁ ለአሮን ወእደ ውሉዱ።And he shall consecrate the hand of Aaron and the hand of his sons. እደዊሁ ይፌጽማሁHis hands shall accomplish it: (ፊልጵ፬: ፲፱። ማቴ፳፫: ፴፫። ዘፀ፳፱: ፱። ዘካ፬: ). But the commentators say anointed instead of completed; that is not what it says.

See ሖመር/ ḥomär; instead of saying ፉል/ ful, it says ፋል/ fal; it is a scribes error. ፋል ብሂል፤ ባቄላFal means bean: (ጥሬ: ሰዋ). Beans and lentils: (ሕዝ፬: ).

ፉርቃን/ Furḳan: The book of Muhammad, the Quran; that which separates and divides Muslims from Christians.

ፉርን ፉርና/ Furn Furna: (ዐረብ፤ ወዕብራ) Oven; kitchen; cooking and baking place.

ፉዝ/ Fuz: A mans name; (ጥሩ ወርቅ ማለት ይመስላል). “ወእምዝ ሖረ ኀበ ፉዝ ንጉሠ ህንደኬ፤ ወቦቱ ለፉዝ ነጌያት መስተቃትላንAnd then he went to Fuz, king of India; and Fuz had warring kings: (ዜና: እስ).

ፋእማት አፍኣም/ Faəmat Afam: Bites, morsels, pieces.

ፊሲስ/ Fisis: (ጽርእ) Nature; character. See ፊሳሎጎስ/ Fisalogos.

ፊላስ/ Filas: (ጽር ፒላስ) Closing; doorway. Bed covering; curtain, lid; canopy of a throne; that which covers the bed from top to bottom like a tent. “ሆሎፎርኒስ ይነውም ውስተ ምስካቢሁ ፊላስ።Holofernes slept in his bedroom under a filas. “መፍርህኬ ነጽሮ ሕርደቱ ለመርዓዊሃ ንጹሕ በውስተ ፊላሳሁShe saw the purity of her bridegrooms bed within his filas: (ዮዲ፲: ፳፩። ቅዳ: ቄር። ገድ: ተክ). But some books say pilas because is a derivative of . See “ፒላስpilas; it is the same as this.

ፊላቅ/ Filaḳ: (ቃት) Heap; pile; tithes and offerings of grain; that which people pour and pile up in one place. Granary, storehouse, rick, stack; heap; granary; grain house; place for storing tithes. “አምጽኡ ዐሥራተ፤ ወአብኡ ወገብሩ ፊላቃተ።Bring the tithes, and bring them and make heaps. “ በሣልስ ወርኅ አኀዙ ይሣርርዎ ለፊላቃት ወበሳብዕ ወርኅ ተፈጸመIn the third month they began to make heaps of the tithes, and in the seventh month it was completed: (፪ዜና: ፴፩: ፮ና: ). But the Hebrew gives all of this only for tithes; it does not show the work of the granary.

ፊልሙንጢ/ Filmuṇṭi: (ጽር ፌልሙኒ። ዕብ ፋልሞኒ) This is the same as adi; whose name is unknown; unnamed; other; one; he; that one; it is called soandso. “ባለብሉዮች ግን የመላእክት ቋንቋ ይሉታል።But the commentators call it the language of angels. “ወይቤ አሐዱ ቅዱስ ለፊልሙንጢ ዘይነብብAnd one holy one said to Filmuṇṭi who was speaking: (ዳን፰: ፲፫).

ፊልሞን/ Filmon: (ጽር ፌልሙኒ። ዕብ ፋልሞኒ) This is the same; soandso; of soandso; see the meaning of እገሌ/ əgële; it is the same as this. “ብሔረ ፊልሞን ነኀድርLet us dwell in the land of Filmon: (፬ነገ: : ).

ፊልክስዩስ/ Filəksəyus: (ጽርእ) A mans name; name of a book; book of monks. It means lover of commerce, participant in commerce; filos means friend; ksinos means commerce.

ፊሎሶፍ/ Filosof: This is the same. “ፊሎሶፊያPhilosophy: (ስንክ: ታኅ፰).

ፊሳሎጎስ/ Fisalogos: (ጽርእ) Speaker of nature; philosopher who speaks of the nature of creation; or a philosophers book.

ፊስሓ ፊስሓይ/ Fisḥa Fisḥay: Fisḥay; smelly; a type of bad odor; the smell of kosso and korofe grass. Bad smell; stench; foul odor; stink. And he will bring out his bad odor.

ፊቃር/ Fiḳar: (ራት) Girdle; belt; like a däg. ዲያቆናት ኢይቅንቱ ሐቌሆሙ በፊቃር በውስተ ጸሎት።Deacons should not gird their loins with a fiḳar during prayer. “ዝናራት ዘውእቶሙ ፊቃር ወተበትከት ፊቃሩ።Belts whose material is fiḳar and its fiḳar was torn. “ረከበ ኀበ አንቀጽ ከልበ ምዉተ ወሰሐቦ በፊቃሩHe found it at the neck of a dead dog and dragged it with his fiḳar: (ቀኖ: ኒቅ። : : ፴፩: ፭። ስንክ: ሐም፲፩። ነሐ፲፬).

ፊንቂስ/ Finḳis: (ጽር ፊኒኪስ) Name of a country; Sidon; the district of Sidon. ፈላስያን እምፊንቂስThe border of Finḳis. ፈላስያን እምፊንቂስPhilosophers from Finḳis: (ዘፀ፲፮: ፴፭። ኢሳ፳፫: ፪። ግብ፲፩: ፲፱). It is also called ፊንቅያ ፊንቂ ፊኒቆ/ Finḳiya, Finḳi, Finiḳon; all are the same name: (ግብ፲፭: ፫። ፳፩: ፪። ኢዮ፵: ፳፭).

ፊንቆን ፈኒቃ/ Finḳon Fäniḳa: (ጽር ፊኒኮን፤ ፊኒካ) Date palm; date; palm tree. ወተወርሰ ሀገረ ፊንቆን።And he inherited the land of Finḳon. ወዲቦራሰ ትነብር ኀበ ፊኒቃAnd Deborah lived under the palm tree (feniḳa: (መሳ፫: ፲፫። : ).

ፊካትም/ Fikatəm: (ዕብ ፋኬህ፤ ነቅዐ ውሕዘ) A great flowing river that passes through the sea; that floods; like the Nile and Lake Tana. የውሃ እናት፤ ጥቍር እንዝዝ የምትመስል፤ በውሃ ላይ እንደንዝርት ራስ የምትሾር የምትሽከረከር።Mother of water; resembling a black leech; that swirls and spins on the water like the head of a leech. ከመ ፊካትም ዘባሕር።Like the fikatəm of the sea. እምኵሉ ዘይብእስ ፊካትም ሀለወት ውስተ ባሕር ቤተ ዮናስ: From all that lives, the fikatəm was in the sea, in the house of Jonah: (ደራሲ። ቅኔ).

ፊደል/ Fidel: (ላት) special; excellent; seed; color. Sign; image; picture of the form of sound and word; explanation, advertisement. ዛቲ ፊደል።This is a letter. ሆህያተ ፊደል።The letters of the alphabet. ካህን ይኩን ከመ መሃሬ ጽሕፈት ዘይጽሕፍ ቅድመ ፊደላተ በእዴሁ፤ ወእምዝ ይኤዝዞሙ ለሕፃናት ከመ ይጽሐፉ በአምሳሊሁ።Let the priest be like a teacher of writing who writes the letters first with his hand; and then he commands the children to write in his likeness. መምህረ ኮነ በበ ደወሉ፤ ፊደላተ ዘኈለቈ ኵሉHe became a teacher in his own time; he who counted all the letters: (አፈ: ተ፳፯። ድ፰። : : : ፲፩። ቅኔ). ፍሕሕት/ Fəḥəḥət: (ዕብ ፋሕ ያፉሕ፤ ሕቅ አለ) Dead; whose soul has departed; corpse. “ይችውም፤ ባሕረ ጼው ናት።This also is the Salt Sea. “እምባሕረ ፍሕሕት እስከ ቤተ ሶንFrom the Dead Sea to Bethson: (ኩፋ: ፳፱).

ፍሕም/ Fəḥəm [1]: (ዕብ ጋሔሌት። ዐረ ጀምር) ember; fiery product; spark; that is fanned by the wind; fragment; blaze. ፍልሳፌ/ Fəlsafe: Philosophy; philosophy. ምርመራ ልብ ወለድ ፈጠራInvestigation, fiction, invention: (አዋል).

ፍልስጥኤም/ Fəlstem: (ዕብ ፍሊሽቲም) Philistines; the people of Philistia. Philistia is the name of a tribe; descended from Pathrusim and Casluhim; these two, because they used to pass on to their wives saying give your hand to whomever you wish, their tribe and country were called Philistia; which means እለ ይትፋለሱ እምስካብ ውስተ ምስካብthose who move from bed to bed; see ኢሎፍሊ/ iloflin; it is the same as this: (ዘፍ፲: ፲፬).

ፍልስፍና/ Fəlsəfəna: being a philosopher; being a philosopher. ጥበብ ዕውቀትWisdom, knowledge: (አዋል).

ፍልፍል/ Fəlfəl: (ዐረ ፊልፊል። ዕብ ፊልፌል) Pepper; all kinds of pepper; ḳundä; dube; miṭmiṭa; bulge, yifate hayḳe; that is bitter, that burns, that is pungent. ደመረ ጼወ ምስለ ግንፋል ወፍልፍል ወብሒእ ወከዐወ ውስተ አንፎሙHe mixed salt with gənfal and pepper and incense, and put it in their nostrils: (ስንክ: ሐም፰).

ፍሡሕ/ Fəśśuḥ: (ሓን ሓት ሥሕት) Happy; full of joy; bright; red. አሠሩ ለልብ ፍሡሕ፤ ገጽ ብሩህ።A happy heart makes a cheerful face. እንዘ ፍሡሕ ውእቱ ልቡ።While his heart was happy. ገጽከ ስቡሕ ወፍሡሕ ከመ ወርኅ ዘአሜ ገሀህ።Your face is radiant and bright like the moon when it shines. ፍሡሓት እምወይን አዕይንቲሁHis eyes are bright from wine: (ሢራ፲፫: ፲፮። ፴፬: ፴፩። ደራሲ። ዘፍ፵፱: ፲፪). To say ዐይኖችን ፍሡሓት እምወይንeyes bright from wine means, when a person who has drunk wine has a happy heart, his eyes also become light like the wine; this shows this.

ፍሱዕ/ Fəsuʿ: (ዕብ ፌሻዕ፤ ክፉ መጥፎ ሥራ) Flat; crooked; like the eye of a locust, with a raised and protruding pupil. ልም ደካማ፤ ሸውራራ።Weak habit; unsteady. ዐይኑ የማናይ ቱሱሕ በደም፤ ወፀጋማይ ፍሱዕHis right eye, which does not see, is covered in blood; and the left one is fəsuʿ: (ኪዳን). In the first part it says ፍሱዕ/ fəsuʿ; in the second part it calls it ምዉት/ dead.

: Hill, small hill; mountain; hillock. ወገብረ ፍሥሐተ ዐቢየ ህየ ለስምዕ፤ በእንተ ተጸውዐ ስሙ ለውእቱ መካን ፍሥሐተ ስምዕAnd he made a great gathering there to listen; because of this the name of that place was called the Hill of Hearing: (ኩፋ: ፳፱).

Its meaning is “ዐዲው ዕድወት ማዕዶትnew, deliverance, passage; see ፋሲካ/ fasika. “ወበቀዳሚት ዕለተ ፍሥሕ።And on the first day of unleavened bread. “አመ ይጠብሑ ፍሥሐ።When they slaughtered the Passover. “በልዑ ፍሥሐ፤ ወገብሩ በዓለ ናእት ሰቡዐ መዋዕለThey ate the Passover; and they kept the feast of unleavened bread for seven days: (ማቴ፳፮: ፲፯። ማር፲፬: ፳፮። ፩ዕዝ: ፳፩፳፪).

ፍሩህ/ Fəruh: (ሃን ሃት ርህት) Afraid; feared; having fear and dread; fearful, venerable. “ፍሩሀከ ንበር እንከ።Sit down in fear then. “በእንተ ይደልወነ ከመ ንኩን ፍሩሃነ በኵሉ ጊዜBecause of this, it is fitting for us to be fearful at all times: (ሮሜ፲፩: ፳። ፊልክ).

ፍሩቅ/ Fəruḳ: Separate; divided; part; poor.

ፍሩይ/ Fəruy: (ያን ያት ሪት) That has blossomed and produced fruit; bearing fruit; fruitful, fertile; its branch, its cluster, its bud, its fruit; or its fruitfulness that is swollen and protruding; grown, luxuriant.

ፍሩድ/ Fərud: Judged, separate; isolated; spread out. “ክነፊሆሙ ፍሩድ እመልዕልትTheir wings were spread out above: (ሕዝ፩: ፲፩).

: Food; nourishment; it means daily sustenance; it also shows stew alone. Vegetable stew; cabbage stew; ḳərd; provisions; salad; it implies leafy vegetables: (ምሳ፳፭: ፲፯).

ፍትሐ ነገሥት/ Fetha Negest: Book of Law; in two parts; having 51 chapters; of which the first part, the spiritual one, has 22 chapters, and the second part, the secular one, has 29 chapters.

ፍትሐት/ Fətḥat: (ታት) Opening; untying, being untied, act of untying; release. (ግጥም/ poem)ምን ያሉ ቄስ ናቸው ተዝካር የለመዱ፤ አስታርቁኝ ብላቸው ፍታት ብለው ኼዱ።What kind of priests are these, accustomed to memorial services; when I asked them to reconcile me, they said release and left. “ፍትሐት ዘወልድThe absolution of the Son: (ቅዳ).

ፍትሕ/ Fətəḥ: (ሓት አፍታሕ) Judgment; law; regulation, rule, decision; association; custom; what is proper. “ኢትሚጥ ፍትሐ ነዳይ ወኢተዐምፅ በፍትሕ።Do not pervert the justice due to the poor, or withhold justice from the oppressed. “ፍትሓተ ሕገጊሁ።The judgments of his laws. “ትግበር ፍትሐ በአፍታሒሆሙ።Let her render judgment in her courts. “አንበሩ ፍትሐ ለዘሞአ በምሳሌሁThey established justice for the one who died in his likeness: (ዘፀ፳፫: ፮። ኩፋ: ፶። ፫ነገ: : ፱። ዲድ: ፲። አርጋ: ).

ፍትለት/ Fətlät: Spinning; being spun; act of spinning; spun thread: (ዕር: ኢሳ).

ፍትሎ/ Fətlo: Thread; yarn; cloth. “ዘሕብረ ያክንት ፍትሎA thread of blue: (ዘፀ፳፰: ፴፯).

ፍትነት/ Fətənät: Tempting; being tempted; act of tempting; temptation; proven quality.

ፍትወታዊ/ Fətwätawi: Weapon of nature; fornication. So that it may weaken the power of fornication: (አቡሻ: ፴፰).

ፍትወት/ Fətäwät: (ታት) ; to desire; to love; being loved; manner of loving; affection; yearning; will, desire; thought, wish; source of thought; smoke of sin; sigh; pleasure, joy. “ብእሴ ፍትወት አንተ።You are a man of desires. “ፍትወቱ ለሥጋ ወፍትወቱ ለዐይን።The lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes. “እለ ይገብሩ ፍትወተ ነፍሶሙ።Those who do the will of their own souls. “ወፍትወትሰ እምከመ ፀንሰት ትወልዳ ለኀጢአት።And desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin. “ፍትወታቲሁ ለዝ ዓለምThe desires of this world: (ዳን፱: ፳፫። ፩ዮሐ: : ፲፮። ኢሳ፵፬: ፱። ያዕ፩: ፲፭። ፊልክ: ).

ፍትው/ Fətäw: Beautiful; beloved; dear, precious. “ዝክርክሙ ፍትው።Your memory is beloved. “ፍትወ ምግባርBeloved deeds: (ስንክ: ታኅ፳፰። ጥር፲፭).

ፍና/ Fəna: (ናት) Road; opposite direction. Time; before. Time of evening prayer; before evening prayer. After the ninth hour; before evening prayer; towards evening time; when it blows; when the shadow cools; evening. “ወሰምዑ ቃለ እግዚ ፍና ሠርክAnd they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. “እስከ ፍና ሠርክ።Until evening. “ወፍና ሠርክ ይበርህ ብርሃነ ፀሓይAnd at evening the light of the sun will shine: (ዘፍ፫: ፰። ፩ነገ: : ፭። ዘካ፲፬: ).

: Desert; wilderness; place, location; side, direction, corner. “ብክዩ በውስተ ፍና በድው።Their cry is in the wilderness of the sick. “ዘጽድቅ ፍና።The way of righteousness. “ወተሰምየ ውእቱ ፍና መሪረ።And that place was called Marah. “ውስተ አርባዕቱ ፍናIn the four corners: (ኤር፱: ፲። አርጋ: ፬። ዘፀ፲፭: ፳፫። ፲፯: ፯። ፳፩: ፲፫። ፳፭: ፳፮ና: ፴፪። : ).

ፍናዌ/ Fənawé: Sending; act of sending; sending. But when it is conjugated, it is resolved as an adjective. If it says ፍናዌ መልእክት/ fənawé meləkt, it means ፍንው መልእክት/ fənəw meləkt (sent message: (አረጋ። ሃይ: አበ).

ፍንው/ Fənəw: (ዋን ዋት ኑት) Sent; messenger; envoy. “መልአክ ፍንው እምኀበ እግዚ።An angel sent from the Lord. “ፍንው አንተ እምኀበ አቡከYou are sent from your father: (ዮሴፍ። ቅዳ: ያዕ).

ፍያል/ Fəyal [1]: (ላት። ጽር ፊኣሊ) Vessel; utensil; large, round, wide, hollow plate; can, cup, mug, jug. “አሐዱ ፍያል ዘብሩር።One silver vessel. “እመ ውስተ ፍያላት ወጽዋዓትIf in vessels and cups: (ዘኍ፯: ፲፫። ምሳ፳፫: ፴፩).

[2]: ፍያል pit of fire, crater; where there is a volcano; like በተሐራ/ Bete Hara. Fire holder; star. See the meaning of ኮከም/ star; the Greek says ፍያል/ phiale instead of ኮከም/ star: (ኤር፶፪: ፲፰).

ፍዮአዮስ/ Fəyoayos: (ሳን) Heretic, denier; Falasha Jew; whose custom does not agree with the scripture. “ፍዮአዮሳን እለ ይኄልዩ ወይብሉ ከመ ወልደ እግዚ ብእሲ ውእቱ ወተወልደ በፍትወተ ሥጋ በሩካቤ ዮሴፍ ወማርያምThe Fəyoayos who think and say that the Son of God is a man and was born of fleshly desire through the union of Joseph and Mary: (ዲድ: ፴፩).

ፍዳ/ Fəda [1]: vengeance; price; loan; repayment; judgment; punishment. “ዓመተ ፍዳ ኵነኔሃ ለጽዮን።The year of recompense for Zions cause. “የዐስየከ ፍጡነ ፍዳ ጽድቅከ።He will swiftly accomplish your righteous vengeance. “ለምንት ይፈድየኒ ዘንተ ፍዳ።Why does he repay me with this vengeance? “ይረክቡ ፍዳሆሙThey will receive their due: (ኢሳ፴፬: ፰። ኢዮ፰: ፮። ፪ነገ: ፲፱: ፴፮። ፪ተሰ: : ).

ፍድየት/ Fədyät: Paying; being paid; distribution; share; lot, price: (ፊልክ: ).

ፍድፋዴ/ Fədfade: Abundance; multitude; increase; excellence; superiority; surplus. “ፍድፋዴ መዋዕል፤ ፍድፋዴ አእምሮ።Abundance of days; abundance of wisdom. “ፍድፋዴ ክብሩ።Abundance of his glory. “በእንተ ተበይኖ ፍድፋዴ ባሕታውያን።Concerning the distinguished abundance of hermits. “ምንት ፍድፋዴሁ ለሰብእWhat is the advantage of man?: (: : ፬። አፈ: ድ፭። ፊልክ: ፫። መክ፩: ).

ፍድፉድ/ Fədfud: Abundant; many; perfect; excellent. “ተኣምሪከ ዘኍላቌሁ ፍድፉድ።Your miracles, whose number is abundant. “እምብዙኅ ወእምነ ፍድፉድ ገድል።From many and from abundant deeds. “በትሕትና ፍድፉድWith abundant humility: (ስንክ: ጥቅ፳፭። ታኅ፳፯። : : ፴፬: ).

ፍድፍድና/ Fədfədənna: This is the same; abundance; greatness. “ፍድፍድና ረባሑAbundant profit: (ፊልክ: ፷፫).

ፍገግ/ Fəgäg: Sigh; stench; bad smell; foul odor. “እምፍገገ ጺአት።Odor from fəgäg.

ፍጉዕ/ Fəguʿ: Prosperous; comfortable; pleased: (ኪዳ).

ፍጉግ/ Fəgug: Stinking; having a bad smell; whose odor is disgusting. “ጼና ጢስ ፍጉግ።Stinking odor of smoke. “ጢሰ እሳተ ገሃነም ፍጉግ ወጽዩእ።The smoke of the fire of Gehenna is stinking and hot. “ቤተ ጽልመት ኀበ ሀሎ ጺአት ፍጉግ።The house of darkness where there is a stinking odor. “አጼንዎ ጼና ፍጉግThey made its odor stink: (ጥበ፲፩: ፲፱። ግንዘ። አፈ: ተ፩። ስንክ: መስ፲፬። ፌላስ).

ፍግ/ Fəg: excrement; dung; that which comes out of the stomach of living beings; stinking odor. Instead of ፍግ/ fəg, it says ፍዕግ/ fəʿəg; I thought I had distinguished it from Amharic. “ወሶበ ከዐዉ ዲቤሃ ፍዕገ ጊዜ ምሴት ይረክብዎ በነግህ ከዊኖ ሐመደAnd when they threw fəʿəg on it in the evening, they found it in the morning having become dust: (ሥር: አኵ).

ፍግዓ/ Fəgʿa: This is the same. “ፍግዓሁ ለዝ ዓለም ከመ ጽላሎት የኀልፍ።The pleasure of this world passes like a shadow. “ብሔረ ፍሥሓ ወፍግዓ ወተድላ።Land of joy, pleasure, and delight. “ፍግዓ ውሉደ ሰብእThe pleasure of the children of men: (ቀሌ። መክ፪: ).

ፍግዕ/ Fəgʿə: Delight; joy; comfort. “ኣፈቅሮ ለፍግዕኪ።I love your delight. “ወደስክዋ አነ ለኵላ ፍግዕ።I will praise you for all delight. “ሠሐቆሙ ፍግዐ ኀጢአትThe laughter of sin is a delight to fools: (ማሕ፯: ፯። መክ፰: ፲፭። ሢራ፳፯: ፲፫).

ፍጡር/ Fəṭur: (ራን ራት ጥርት) created; made. “አርዮስ ይቤ ወልድ ፍጡር በመለኮቱ።Arius said the Son is a creature in his divinity. “መቅዶንዮስ ተአመነ ከመ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ፍጡር።Macedonius believed that the Holy Spirit is a creature. “ኢያፍለሰ ፈጣሪ መለኮቶ ለከዊነ ፍጡር፤ ወኢያፍለሰ ትስብእቶ ፍጡረ ለከዊነ ፈጣሪThe Creator did not diminish his divinity to become a creature, nor did the creature diminish his humanity to become the Creator: (መጽ: ምስ። : : መቅ። : : ፳፭። ሃይ: አበ: ጎር).

ፍጡነ/ Fəṭunä: Quickly; hastily; now, soon; immediately. “ዘፍጡነ የአምን ቀሊል ልቡ።He who is quick to believe is light of heart. “ፍጡነ ይርከበነ ሣህልከ።May your grace quickly reach us. “እመጽእ ፍጡነ።I am coming quickly. “ዘትገብር እንከ ፍጡነ ግበርWhat you are going to do, do quickly: (ሢራ፲፱: ፬። መዝ: ፸፰። ራእ፳፪: ፳። ዮሐ፲፫: ፳፯).

ፍጡን/ Fəṭun: Who has hastened; who has hurried; fast; hasty; near, soon. “ይኩን ኵሉኡ ብእሲ ፍጠነ ለሰሚዕ ወጕንዱየ ለነቢብ።Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak. “ኵሉ ፍጡን በኀበ እግዚ ለእንተ ምዕር።Everything is quick with God for mercy. “መልአክ ዘፍጡን ረድኤቱ።An angel whose help is quick. “በፍጡን አው በዕድሜQuickly or in old age: (ያዕ፩: ፲፱። ሢራ፲፰: ፳፮። ስንክ: ሠኔ፬። : : ፴፫: ).

ፍጥረታዊ/ Fəṭəratawi: Natural; of nature. “ደዌ ሥጋ ፍጥረታዊት።Natural physical illness. “ማሰነት ማስኖ ፍጥረታዌ።Natural hatred and envy. “ሕማማት ፍጥረታውያትNatural sufferings: (ገድ: ኪሮ። : : ፳፯። ፊልክ: ፲፩).

ፍጥረት/ Fəṭrät: (ታት) Creating; being created; creation; act of creating; creaturehood. “ሐዳስ ፍጥረት።New creation. “ዘይእኅዝ ኵሎ ፍጥረታተFrom the creation of the world: (ኩፋ: ፩። ሮሜ፩: ).

: Antiquity; former time; beginning. “ኆኃት እለ እምፍጥረት።The firstborn from creation. “ወእምፍጥረትሰAnd from the beginning: (መዝ: ፳፫። ማር፲: ).

ጥሩ፤ ብርቱ፤ እውነተኛ፤ ቅልቅል የሌለው፤ ግብዝ ያይዶለ። ወርቅ ፍጹም። ብሩር ፍጹም: (፫ነገ: : ፲፱። ኩፋ: ፲፱)

ፍጹም/ Fəṭṣum: (ማን ማት ጽምት) completed; finished; ended; full, complete; sufficient; correct; without defect or blemish. “ወገብረ ኪራም ፍጹመ ኵሎ ቅኔ።And Hiram made completely all the work. “ወርኅ ፍጹመ ብርሃን።Month of full light. “በግዕ ፍጹም።Perfect lamb. “ሥርዐተ ፍጹማን።Order of the perfect. “አኀው ፍጹማንPerfect brothers: (፪ዜና: : ፲፩። አቡሻ: ፲፫። ዘፀ፲፪: ፭። ፊልክ: ፩። : : ፵፪).

ፍፁም/ Fəṭṣum: Closed; shut; sealed; completely closed. “አፍ ፍፁምClosed mouth: (ሢራ፴: ፲፰).

ፍጻሜ/ Fəṣame: (ላጥ ) Completing; being completed; manner of completion; completion. Means of completion; end; tip; fullness. “እስመ ኀልዮ ኪያሃ ፍጻሜ አእምሮ።For thinking of her is the perfection of understanding. “ንበጻሕ ኀበ ፍጻሜሁ።Let us press on to maturity. “ፍጻሜ መጠነ አካል ዘዕደው ዕሥራ ዓመት፤ ወእመ አኮ ዕሥራ ወኀምስቱ ዓመት፤ ወለአንስት ዐሠርቱ ወክልኤቱ ዓመት ወእመ አኮ ዐሠርቱ ወኀምስቱ ዓመትThe completion of the measure of the body for men is twenty years; and if not, twentyfive years; and for women twelve years, and if not, fifteen years: (ጥበ፮: ፲፮። ዕብ፮: ፩። : : ፳፬: ).

ፍጽም/ Fəṣəm: (ማት። ዕብ ፋዳሐት፤ ሜጻሕ) Forehead; face. “ሄጶ ውስተ ፍጽሙ።He put it on his forehead. “ከመ ንዕትብ ፍጽማቲነ በአምሳለ መስቀል።So that we may inscribe our foreheads with the sign of the cross. “አነ አሐውር ፍጽመ ቅድሜከ።I will go before you. “ወወፅአ ይሁዳ ፍጽመAnd Judas went out immediately: (ሢራ፵፯: ፬። : : ፲፬። ኢሳ፵፭: ፪። ኩፋ: ፴፰).

ፎቀ/ Foḳä: (ይፈውቅ ይፉቅ። ዕብ ፋቅ ያፊቅ) He jumped, leaped; it is on top; it went out from bottom to top, from inside to outside, it burst forth; of liquid, of a wild animal. ፌቆ ፊቆ/ Feqqo fiḳon (to hop) is derived from this.

ፎቃንስ/ Foḳans [1]: ( ፈዋቅንስ። ዐረ ፎቃኒ፤ ላዕላዊ) Colobus monkey; hairy, white and black; its tail is completely white; a type of monkey that lives in trees, jumps and throws itself from tree to tree. A type of colobus monkey bird; colobus monkey eagle. Instead of ፎንቃስ/ foḳans, it says ፎንቃስ/ fonḳas; it agrees with phoenix. “ፎንቃስ ወቋዓትFonḳas and wäḳʷaʿat: (ሔኖ፹፱: ).
