ረ/ Re: Twentieth letter; in
the Geez alphabet, in the abugida; its name is Reis; its number is two hundred;
when it is a digit, ረ/ re: (፪፻) is called two
hundred.
ረሓቂ/ Rehaqi: (ቂት ቅያን ያት) That which distances;
that which flees; fearful; reluctant. “ርኩሳን ወረሓቅያን እምስብሐተ እግዚአብሔር” Unclean and those who
distance themselves from the glory of God: (ቄር: ጰላ).
ረኀብ አው ረኃብ/ Rehab or Rehab: hunger; food shortage;
region; famine, natural sickness; natural law that requires food by force. “ይጠፍኡ በረኀብ።” They perish from
hunger. “ወአምጽአ ረኀበ ለብሔር።” And he brought hunger
to the region. “ወተወክፈ ረኃበ እስመ ረኃብስ አልቦቱ ኀጢአት።” And he endured hunger
for hunger has no sin. “ኣመጽእ ረኀበ እክል” I will bring hunger
for grain: (ዮዲ፯: ፲፬። መዝ: ፻፬። ሃይ: አበ። ዓሞ፮: ፰).
ረኃዊ/ Rehawi: (ዊት ውያን ያት) That which opens; that
which is divided; that which is divided.
ረሓዪ/ Rehayi: (ዪት ይያን ያት) That which smells; that
which smells; that which smells; that which smells.
ረመለ/ Remele: Stirred sand; divined;
divined with sand; threw pebbles.
ረመፅ/ Remets: (ዕብ ሬሜጽ) ember; fine coals; hot
ash: (መ: ፈ).
ረሚሕ ሖት/ Remih hot: (ረምሐ ይረምሕ ይርማሕ። ዐረ ረመሐ) To pierce; to
penetrate; to tear; to scatter.
ረሚም ሞት/ Remim mot: (ረመ፤ ረመመ ይረምም ይርምም። ዐረ ረመ፤ ጠባ መጠጠ። ዕብ ራማም፤ ረገጠ አለፋ ዠለጠ) To walk slowly; to
grind; to listen, to purify; to grind with a stone; of parchment. But poets
call it wrote.
: To be silent; to be quiet; to close the mouth and lips; to close; to
rest from turmoil and words. It is like a suckling who cannot speak except to
suck; but the book uses armeme and asterameme instead of rememe; it is
inappropriate. If a fool speaks, everyone is silent. “ባዕል ለእመ ነበበ ኵሉ ያረምም።” Without your silence.
“እንበለ አርምሞትኪ።” All the earth
trembled and was silent. “አርመመ ባሕር።” The sea was silent. “አርመመ ኵሉ ዘበሰማይ።” All that is in heaven
was silent. “እንዘ ይሴብሖ ሕፃን ለእግዚ መኑ ያስተራምም” While a child praises
the Lord, who can make him silent: (ሢራ፲፫: ፳፫። ማሕ፩: ፩። ዘካ፬: ፲፲፩። ዮና፩: ፲፭። ራእ፰: ፩። መጽ: ምስ).
ረሚስ ሶት/ Remis sot: (ረምሰ፤ይረምስ፤ይርመስ። ዕብ፤ራማስ፤ረገጠ። ራማሽ፤ጌኹደ) To stir; to mix; to knead;
to soak, to mix with water, mud, wet things; to stir, to mix; of flour. To stir;
to stir; of the limbs of the body, of the hands and feet.
ረሚፅ ፆት/ Remits tsot: (ረመፀ ይረምፅ ይርምፅ። ዐረ ረሚፀ። ዕብ ራማጽ) To cover with embers;
to hide; to put in coals; to cover, to bury; to bake on coals; to fry, to roast;
to scorch, to burn; to swing. “ይረምፁ በእሳት” They are roasted in
fire: (መ: ፈ). Armetse is used
instead of remetse; it is an error. “ታረምፆ ለሥጋነ” It scorches our body:
(ያዕ፫: ፮).
ረማዪ/ Remayi: (ዪት ይያን ያት፤ መይት) That which throws; thrower,
hurler; piercer, stabber.
ረምሓይ/ Remhay: Remhay; this is like
that; a king who lived in the Old Testament; the son of Seyfay. “ሰይፋይ ወረምሓይ” Seyfay and Remhay: (ታሪ: ነገ).
ረምሕ/ Remh: (ዕብ ሮማሕ። ሱር ሩምሓ። ዐረ ሩምሕ) Javelin; spear; weapon
of war. “ነሥአ ረምሐ በእዴሁ ወረገዞሙ ለክልኤሆሙ።” He took a javelin in
his hand and pierced them both. “ረምሕ ዘይረግዞ።” Javelin that pierces.
“ለረጊዘ አርዌ በረምሕ።” To pierce a beast
with a javelin. “በረምሐ መስቀሉ ረጊዞ ሰይጣነ” He pierced Satan with
the javelin of his cross: (ዘኍ፳፭: ፯። ኩፋ: ፴፯። ደራሲ).
ረምል/ Reml: (ዐረብ። ዕብ ሖል) Sand; gravel; river
stone; heap.
ረምሰሰ/ Remesese: Touched, groped; mersesese.
ረምስ/ Rems [1]: (ዐረ ረመስ። ዕብ ዶብራ፤ ራፍሶዳ) Cargo ship, boat; a
flat surface without a shade or shelter on top; like a meadow.
[2]: (ዕብ ሬሜሽ) Small, creeping
creatures; small, creeping creatures of land and sea.
ረምይ ዮት/ Remiy yot: (ረመየ ይረሚ ይርሚ። ዐረ ረመይ። ዕብ ራማህ። ሱር ርማእ) To throw; to hurl; to
fling. To pierce; to strike; to wound. “ረመየ ሥዕሎ፤ ወጋ” He threw his image; he
pierced: (ስንክ: የካ፳፭).
ረምፅ/ Remts: Rimito; roasted; fried;
cooked warm in coals.
ረሲሕ ሖት/ Resih hot: (ረስሐ ይረስሕ ይርሳሕ። ረኵሰ፤ ረስዐ) To defile; to stain;
to pollute; to sin, to make bad; to be suitable for insults and judgment; to be
ready; to be called dirty, stained, sinner. “ልብሱ ለእመ ረስሐ ኢየኀፅብ።” If his garment is
defiled, he does not wash it. “ኢየኀፅብ። ልብስ ዘኢረስሐ።” Garment that is not
defiled. “ለእመ ረስሐ በሩካቤ ምስለ ብእሲቱ።” If he is defiled by
intercourse with his wife. “ወለዘረስሐኒ ያረስሕዎ።” And they defile the
one who defiles. “ረስሐ ውእቱ ለኵነኔ” He is defiled for
judgment: (ፈላስ። ግንዘ። ፈ: መ: ፲፬: ፱። ራእ፳፪: ፲፲፩። ማቴ፭: ፳፳፩).
: To swell, to become swollen; to become blistered. “እገሪከ ኢረስሓ” Your feet did not
swell: (ዘዳ፰: ፬).
ረሲን ኖት/ Resin not: (ረስነ ይረስን ይርሰን። ዕብ ጋሐል)To become hot, to
glow; to become hot, to become bright; to become warm, to become radiant; to
blend and resemble fire; to burn, to be on fire; to be intangible, untouchable.
“ለእመ ረስነት መቅፁት።” If the punishment is
hot. “ሰማያትኒ ይረስና።” Even the heavens will
become hot. “ኢውዕየ ወኢረስነ ምንተ፤ እንዘ ብሱበል የዐቍር እሳተ።” I was not hot nor did
I become hot; while he cools the fire with a sponge. “ወበከመ ኀጺን አው ዘይመስሎ ተራኪቦ ምስለ እሳት ይረስን ተወኪፎ ኪያሁ ወይትማሰል ምስለ እሳት ረሲኖ” And like iron or that
which resembles it, when it comes into contact with fire, it becomes hot,
embracing it and resembling fire, having become hot: (ዮሴፍ። ፪ጴጥ: ፫: ፲፪። ስንክ: ታኅ፭። ቄር: ጰላ).
ረሲዕ ዖት/ Resi ot: (ረስዐ ይረስዕ ይርሳዕ። ዕብ ራሻዕ፤ ኀጥአ) To forget; to
neglect; to lose; to erase from the heart and mind; to be careless; to leave,
to despise; to not remember. “ረስዑ ነሢኦ ኅብስት።” They forgot to take
bread. “ይረስዖ ለዘኮነ ይፈቅዶ።” He forgets my sin for
me. He forgets what he desires. “ኀደጎ ለእግዚ ወረሳዕኮ።” He forsook the Lord
and forgot you. “ትረስዕኑ ብእሲት ዕጓላ” Can a woman forget
her child: (ማቴ፲፮: ፭። ሢራ፳፫: ፲፰። ማር: ይሥ፩: ፲፲፩። ዘዳ፴፪: ፲፰። ኢሳ፵፱: ፲፭).
ረሲዕ/ Resi [1]: (ረሲሕ) To be bad, to be
evil, to be cruel; to sin; to oppress; to commit injustice upon injustice; to
depart from righteousness; to be an oppressor, a sinner, lawless; like Pharaoh
and Herod. “ምስጢሩ ከዚያው ከመርሳት ይገባል።” Its mystery comes
from forgetting. “ወበርእየ አሕላም ቦሙ ይረስዑ ወይፈርሁ፤ ወኵሎ ግብሮሙ በሐሰት ይገብሩ” And in the vision of
their dreams they forget and fear; and all their deeds they do in falsehood: (ሔኖ).
[2]: (ዓን ዓት ሳዕ) Forgetful, negligent;
oppressor, sinner; evil, bad. “ረሲዕ ዘረስዐ ቃለ መለኮት ዘተምህረ።” Resi who forgot the
word of divinity that he was taught. “ዘይጌሥጾ ለረሲዕ ያሐይስ ርእሶ።” He who reproves the
wicked improves his head. “ይጐይይ ረሲዕ እንዘ አልቦ ዘይዴግኖ።” The wicked flees when
no one pursues him. “ብፁዕ ብእሲ ዘኢሖረ በምክረ ረሲዓን” Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked: (ቀሌ። ምሳ፱: ፯። ፳፰: ፩። መዝ: ፩).
ረሢእ ኦት/ Resi ot: (ረሥአ ይረሥእ ይርሣእ። ዕብ ራዛህ። ዐረ ረዘሐ፤ ደከመ) To age; to become
old; to become gray; to weaken, to become tired; to diminish, to become frail.
See aregenna and lihqe; they are related to this. “ለረሢእ ፍጡነ።” To be quick for the
old. “ወርዘውኩሂ ወረሣእኩ።” And I became old and
I aged. “እስከ እልህቅ ወእረሥእ።” Until I became old
and aged. “ፈድፋደ ረሥአ።” He aged greatly. “ዘይረሥእ እምአቡከ።” He who ages from your
father. “እመ ረሥአ ሥርዉ በምድር” If its root ages in
the ground: (ኩፋ: ፳፫። መዝ: ፴፮ና: ፸። ጦቢ፲፬: ፫። ኢዮ፲፭: ፲። ፲፬: ፰).
ረሲው ዎት/ Resiw wot: (ረሰወ ይረሱ ይርሱ። ዐረ ረሳ። ዕብ ራሴን፤ ለበበ) To cast anchor; to
stop, to restrain; to bring near; to moor; to bring to land; of a boat, of a
ship. Arsewe and arseyye are used instead of resewe; it is an error. “አርሰዩ ህየ” Moored there: (ማር፮: ፶፫).
ረሳዊ መርስው/ Resawi mersiw: Anchorer; anchor
caster; ship stopper for those who are going.
ረሳዪ/ Resayi: (ዪት ይያን ያት) That which does; doer,
creator; appointer, setter.
ረሥሀ/ Resha:
Defiled; ረሲሕ ረስሐ/ resih
resha.
ረሥአ/ Resa: Forgot, neglected; ረሲዕ ረስዐ/ resi resaa.
ረስዮ ዮት/ Resiyo yot: (ረሰየ ይሬሲ ይረሲ። ረሰወ፤ ገብረ፤ ሤመ፤ ወደየ) To do; to create, to
make; to beautify, to adorn; to arrange; to prepare; anything. “በረሰየ ፈንታ አስተረሰየ ይላል፤ ስሕተት ነው።” Astereseye is used
instead of reseye; it is an error. “መኑ ያስተሬሲ ሀገረ።” Who made the city. “አስተረሲ ለክሣድየ ባዝግና ወቃማ” He made my neck
beautiful with a necklace: (ሚልክ፮: ፱። ስንክ: ነሐ፴).
: To tie, to bind; to insert, to put in; to place, to put. “ረሰዩ አሕባለ ውስተ ክሣዱ።” They tied ropes on
his neck. “ረሰይዎ ውስተ ላሕመ ብርት።” They put him in a
hard stone. “ረሰዩ መኃትወ እሳት ውስተ ገበዋቲሁ” They put fire tongs
in his sides: (ስንክ: ሚያ፴። ፲፮። የካ፱).
: To appoint, to reward, to empower; to change name, action, and nature;
to make another; or to imitate, to compare; to harm. “ረሰይኩከ አምላኮ ለፈርዖን።” I have made you a god
to Pharaoh. “ነቢየ ረሰይኩከ።” I have made you a
prophet. “ሰብአ ዐይን ረሰይኩከ።” I have made you a
watchman. “ወበጥበብከ ረሰይከ ሰብአ ከመ ይኰንን ዘእምኀቤከ ተገብረ።” And with your wisdom
you made a man to judge what was done by you. “ወረሰዩ ለለ ኵሉ ክፍል ብእሴ ዘእሙር በኀይል፤ ሾመ” And they appointed
for each part a man who was powerful; he appointed: (ዘፀ፯: ፩። ኤር፩: ፭። ሕዝ፫: ፲፯። ጥበ፱: ፪። ዮሴፍ). “ዘይሬስዮሙ ለመላእክቲሁ መንፈሰ።” Who makes his angels
spirits. “ወረሰዮ ለማይ ወይነ።” He made the earth
salt. “ወረሰዮ ለማይ ወይነ።” And he made water
wine. “ረስዮ ከመ እኁከ።” Make him like your
brother. “ወረሰይዎ ከመ አብድ።” And they made him
like a madman. “አልቦ ዘይሬስዮ ረምሕ።” There is none who can
make him a javelin. “ምንተ ይሬስየኒ ሰብእ” What can a man do to
me: (መዝ: ፻፫። ፻፮። ቅዳ። ሢራ፴: ፴፱። ዮሴፍ። ኢዮ፵፩: ፲፯። መዝ: ፶፭).
ረቀመ/ Reqeme: (ዐረ። ዕብ ራቃም) Drew; resembled; made
a pattern; in embroidery, in sewing; with needlework. “እስከ ሰብአ አዝማና ይረቅሙ ሥዕላ ዲበ አልባሲሆሙ” Up to seven eras they
embroidered images on their clothes: (ዮሴፍ).
ረቂቅ/ Reqiq: (ቃን ቃት ቃቅ) that which is
subtle, thin; delicate; slender, fine; frail. “መንፈስ ረቂቅ።” Subtle spirit. “ይጠበልል በረቂቅ።” He is wrapped in a
thin cloth. “ቈጽለ ወርቅ ረቃቅ።” Thin gold leaf. “ረቂቀ ልብ።” Subtle of heart. “ረቂቀ አባል።” Subtle of speech. “ድግዱግ ወረቂቅ ሥጋሁ” His body was thick
and thin: (ቅዳ። ዘፍ፲፮: ፴፫። ፈላስ። ገድ: አዳ። ስንክ: ሐም፰).
ረቂቅ ቆት/ Reqiq qot: (ረቀ ይረቅቅ ይርቅቅ፤ ዐረ። ዕብ ራቃቅ። ሱር ራቅ፤ ወረቀ፤ ሤነ) To be subtle; to be
thin; to be slender; to be like mist, smoke, wind; to depart from size. But
poets call it sweet.
ረቃዪ/ Reqayi: (ዪት ይያን ያት፤ ቀይት) That which repeats,
that which sprinkles; magician, distiller; perfume maker. “ረቃይያን።” Reqayyan. “መፈክራነ ሕልም ወረቀይት” Dream interpreters
and magicians: (ኪዳ። ኩፋ: ፵).
ረቅ/ Req: (ቃት) Paper; parchment. “ጽሒፈ ውዳሴኪ እምኢኀልቀ ሶበ ኮነ ጥቀ፤ ዝናመ ክረምት ቀለመ ወሰማይ ረቀ” I would not finish
writing your praise, when it was much; the winter rain colored and the sky
became paper: (ደራሲ). (፪ጢሞ: ፲፫: ድጓ).
ረቅይ ዮት/ Reqiy yot: (ረቀየ ይረቂ ይርቂ። ዐረ ረቂየ። ዕብ ራቃሕ) To chant, to dissolve;
to make a charm. To repeat over water; to whisper; to pray, to read; of magic,
of prayer. Also, after finishing, to sprinkle, to scatter; to disperse, to
sprinkle; to pour, to splash. “ጽምምት እንተ ኢትሰምዕ ቃለ ዘይረቅያ።” A deaf woman who does
not hear the words of the one who chants over her. “ረቃዪ ዘይረቂ።” A chanter who chants.
“ዘአልቦ ዘይረቅዮ።” He who has no one to
chant over him. “እለ ይነዝሁ ማየ ረቅዮሙ ላዕሌሁ፤ ደግመው።” Those who sprinkle
their chanted water upon him; repeatedly. “እለ የዐውዱ ወይረቅዩ ወይጼውዑ” Those who go around,
chant, and call: (መዝ: ፶፯። መክ፲: ፲፲፩። ኤር፰: ፲፯። ፈ: መ: ፲፭: ፫። ግብ፲፱: ፲፫). “ሰሚዖሙ ወንጌለ ኵሎ መዋዕለ ያንብሩ እደ ላዕሌሆሙ ወይርቅይዎሙ፤ ወጥምቀቶሙሰ በመዋዕለ ጳሲካ።” Having heard the
gospel, they lay hands on them every day and chant over them; and their baptism
is on the days of Passover. “ይርቂ ላዕሌሆሙ።” He chants over them. “ትረቂ መቃብሪሁ በማይ።” You sprinkle his
grave with water. “አምጽኢ ማየ ወርቅዪያ ወተሐዩ” Bring the water of my
chanting and they were healed: (ኪዳ። ቀኖ: ኒቅ፸፮። ግንዘ። ገድ: ዳን).
: To heat, to roast; to sweat, to emit vapor; to boil, to distill; to
purify, to extract ዐረቂ/ araqi (an Ethiopian alcoholic beverage).
ረበናት/ Rebenat: (ዕብ ራባናን) Lords, chiefs; wise, knowledgeable; elders;
teachers, scholars; officials. “ረበናተ ካህናት።” Lords of priests. “ረበናቶሙ ለሕዝብ።” Lords of the people. “ሥርዐተ ረበናት።” Order of lords. “ረበናተ ገዳመ አስቄጥስ” Lords of the desert
of Scetes: (ኢሳ፴፯: ፪። ኤር፲፱: ፩። ማር፯: ፫። ስንክ: ጥር፰። ግን፬).
ረበዋት/ Rebewat: (ዐረ ሪብወት፤ ሩበት። ዕብ ሪቦ፤ ርባባ። ሱር ሪቡ) Thousand; or ten
thousand. “በዐረብና በዕብራይስጥ በአራም ቋንቋ ግን ዐሥር እልፍ፤ ወይም አእላፍ ይባላል።” But in Arabic, Hebrew,
and Aramaic, it is called ten thousand; or thousands. “ተስዐቱ ምእት ረበዋት፤ ፱፻ –፻፻፤ ፱ ሚልዮን” Nine hundred ten
thousands; 900100,000; 9 million: (ጦማር).
: Very many; many of many; its multitude is like sand and stars. “አለፈንና ምእልፊትን እይ።” See alefenna and
miilfitin. “ረበዋተ ረበዋት ይሰግዱ ሎቱ” Myriads of myriads
bow down to him: (ቅዳ: ያዕ).
ረቡኒ/ Rebuni: (ዕብ ራቡኒ) My Lord; my God; my
scholar; my teacher: (ዮሐ፳: ፲፮። ማር፲: ፶፩).
ረቡዕ/ Rebui: Name of a day; number.
“አራተኛ፤ አራት።” Fourth; four. “ጾመ ረቡዕ።” Fast of Wednesday. “አመ ዕለተ ዐሡሩ ወረቡዑ።” On the day of the
tenth and fourth. “ረቡዐ መዋዕለ” Four days: (ዘካ፰: ፲፱። ዘሌ፳፫: ፭። መሳ፲፩: ፵).
ረቢ/ Rebi: (ዕብ ራቢ) Title of respect; my lord. Lord; chief;
official; teacher; scholar; elder; detailed. “ኢትሰመዩ ረቢ።” Do not be called
rabbi. “አነሁ እንጋ ረቢ።” Here I am, rabbi. “በሓ ረቢ።” Please, rabbi. “ወይቤልዎ ረቢ ዘበትርጓሜሁ ሊቅ” And they said to him,
rabbi, which means teacher: (ማቴ፳፫: ፯። ፳፮: ፳፭: ፵፱። ዮሐ፩: ፴፱).
ረቢሕ ሖት/ Rebih hot: (ረብሐ ይረብሕ ይርባሕ። ዐረ ረቢሐ። ዕብ ራባህ። ሱር ርባእ) To multiply; to
increase; to give birth, to become heavy, to become thick; to be a flock, to be
a herd. Of humans, of livestock, of money; also for generosity. “ምናን ዘበዝኀ ወመክሊት ዘረብሐ” Manna that increased
and food that multiplied: (ቅዳ። ሳታ).
: To profit; to benefit; to serve; to take a job; to fulfill a matter. “በእንተ ኵሉ ዘይረብሐከ ወይበቍዐከ።” About everything that
benefits you and is sufficient for you. “ምንት ይረብሖ ለእመ አንተ አርታዕከ ፍናዊከ።” What does it profit
if you straighten your ways. “ይሜህሩ በዘይረብሖሙ።” They teach what
profits them. “ከመ እርብሖ ለክርስቶስ” That I may gain
Christ: (ሢራ፵፪: ፭። ኢዮ፳፪: ፫። ቲቶ፩: ፲፲፩። ፊልጵ፫: ፰).
: To buy; to make money; to sell; to trade, to profit; to gain profit,
benefit: (ማቴ፲፮: ፳፮። ፳፭: ፲፮). “ኤጲስቆጶስ ኢያፍቅር ይርባሕ።” A bishop should not
love to profit. “እመ ረብሑ፤ ትንሣአ ብእሲት መንፈቀ ረባሖሙ።” If they profit; a
woman should take half of their profits. “ምንተ ረባሕነ ዘዐቀብነ ትእዛዞ።” What have we profited
by keeping his commandments. “አንትሙ ትረብሑ በመዊኦቶሙ ስመ ክቡረ” You profit by killing
a glorious name: (ሲኖዶ። ፍ: ነ: ፵፪: ፫። ሚል፫: ፲፬። ዮሴፍ). Terebha is used
instead of rebha; it is an error. “እንዘ ኢትትረብሕዎሙ” While not profiting
them: (፩ጴጥ: ፭: ፪).
ረቢብ ቦት/ Rebib bot: (ረበ፤ ረበበ ይረብብ ይርብብ። ዕብ ራባብ። ዐረ ረበ) To multiply, to
increase greatly; to excel, to surpass, to grow, to be great; to strengthen, to
be powerful; to be very many, very great; in number, in honor, in lordship.
Rebi, raban, rebewat, arbab are descendants of this.
: To spread out; to scatter; to stretch; to tighten, to resist. “መነስነስ መረብረብ።” To sprinkle, to
scatter. “ይኩና ኪሩቤን እንዘ ይረብባ ክነፊሆን።” Let the cherubim be
spreading their wings. “ወረበብኮ ለሰማይ ከመ ሠቅ።” And I stretched out
the heavens like a tent. “ይረብቡ መሣግረ።” They spread out their
nets. “አዘዘ ያምጽእ ሐመደ ወረበቦ ውስተ ኵሉ ቤት” He commanded to bring
dust and spread it throughout the house: (ዘፀ፳፭: ፳። መዝ: ፻፫። ሕዝ፳፮: ፲፬። ዳን፲፫: ፲፬)።.
ረባሒ/ Rebahi: (ሒት ሕያን ያት) That which profits; that
which benefits; beneficial. “ምጿት ተናግዶ አምላካዊት ማእምንት ረባሒት ይእቲ” Divine faith, which

ረባቢ/ Rebabi: (ቢት ብያን ያት) That which spreads,
spreader; sprinkler.
ረባን/ Raban: (ዕብ ራባን) Title of scholars; lord; chief; teacher;
judge and descendant of kings. “ጊዮርጊስ ራባን ሰባኬ ትንሣኤሁ ለመድኅን” George Raban,
preacher of the resurrection of the savior: (ድጓ).
ረባዒ/ Rebai: (ዒት ዕያን ያት) That which makes
four; that which says; that which divides. “ሰብአ ልዮን ይሰመዩ ረባዕያነ ወአኮ ሠላስያነ” People of Lyon are
called quartans, not tertians: (መጽ: ምስ).
ረብ/ Reb: (ዐረብ) Lord; God. Wide, great; much, very.
When its very much, it is called rebewat, arbab.
ረብሓዊ/ Rebh.awi: (ዊት ውያን ያት) That which profits; profiteer;
merchant, retailer; lender. “ነጋዲ ወረብሓዊ” Trader and profiteer:
(አፈ: ተ፲፮).
ረብሕ ረባሕ/ Rebh. Rebah.: (ሓት) Much profit; interest; usury; increase;
benefit, advantage. “እለ ያፈቅሩ ረባሐ።” Those who love
profit. “ፍትወተ ረባሕ።” Desire for profit. “ረባሕ ርኵስት።” Unclean profit. “ኢትትማከር እንበይነ ረባሕ ምስለ ሠያጢ።” Do not consult about
profit with a seller. “ረብሐ ነፍስከ።” Profit of your soul. “አይኑ ረባሕ ለነ በቀቲለ ነፍሳቲነ።” They are profiting by

instead of rebah; it is an error. “ርቡሕ ሊተ” Rebuh for me: (ፊልጵ፩: ፳፩).
ረብዖ ዖት/ Rebo ot: (ረብዐ ይሬብዕ ይረብዕ። ዕብ ራቤዕ) To make four; to
divide into four; to mean four. “ዘያማስን ሥላሴ ወይሬብዕ ጥምቀት።” Who divides the
Trinity and quadruples baptism. “ዘይሬብዖን ለከንትሮሳተ ዓመታት ከመ ይኩና ለሐጋይ ወለክረምት ለመፀው ወለተወን” Who divides the
centenary years so that they become for summer and winter, for autumn and

ረዐይታዊ/ Reayitawi: That profits; that is
profitable; mighty hero; like reayit; see yarbih. “ጎልያድ ረዐይታዊ። ሶምሶን ረዐይታዊ” Goliath, reayitawi.
Samson, reayitawi: (ስንክ: ጥቅ፲፩። የካ፲፪። አርጋ: ፬). Instead of saying
mighty, strong, it says reayit; it is a stylistic error. “ዝንቱ ቀደመ ይኩን ረዐይተ ወነዓዌ ዲበ ምድር” This one was first to
be reayit and to move about on the earth: (፩ዜና: ፩: ፲).
ረዐይት/ Reayit: (ዕብ ራዒም፤ ርፋኢም) People of giants; evil
warriors; those who are called against each other; their strength and size
exceeding human measure; like pines and junipers; taller than pines and

ረዓም/ Ream: Shout; thunder; roar;
murmur; hymn of praise: (ሔኖ፳: ፪). “ዘረዓም ወዘለኈሳስ ይሰምዕ።” He hears that which
ream and that which is whispers. “ረዓመ መላእክት” Reame of angels: (ደራሲ። አዋል).
ረዓዊ/ Reawi: (ዊት ውያን ያት፤ ዐውት) That which snares; that
which arranges; snarer.
ረኣዪ/ Reayi: (ዪት ይያን ያት፤ አይት) That which sees,
that which perceives; that which divines; cunning astrologer; prophet, dreamer;
examiner, investigator. “ኦ ልብዋን ረኣይያን ናሁ እኁክሙ እገሌ ስምዕ ለዛቲ ቃል።” O you who see her

ረኵስ ሶት/ Rekus sot: (ረኵሰ ይረኵስ ይርኰስ። ዕብ ራካሽ፤ ገዛ ሰበሰበ) To defile; to
degrade; to be cheap; to be cheap; of price. To stain; to defile; to spoil; to
perish, to be damaged; to be shameful. “መቅደስየ ረኵሰ።” My sanctuary is

spirit; rest, tranquility. “ዕሩፍ ህዱእ ወይም ርዉሕ በማለት ፈንታ ረውሕ ይላል።” ዕሩፍ ህዱእ/ Iruf hidu or ርዉሕ/ riwuh is used instead
of ረውሕ/ rewih. “እንጦንዮስ ረውሕ” Antony, rewih: (ስንክ: የካ፳፭).
ረውይ ዮት/ Rewiy yot: (ረወየ ይረዊ ይርወይ። ዕብ ራዋህ። ዐረ ረዊየ። ሱር ርዊይ) To be satisfied; to
be full from drinking; to drink excessively; to moisten; to quench thirst; to
remove, to eliminate. “ትስትዩ ወኢትረውዩ።” You drink and are not
satisfied. “እለ ይሰትዩኒ ኢይረውዩኒ።” Those who drink me

ረዪም ሞት/ Reyim mot: (ረየመ ይረይም ይሪም። ትግ ሬመ። ዕብ ራም) High; ascending; to
be high; to be long, to go up; to rank; to be far, to be prominent; to excel,
to surpass; to sit above; to be top, head, peak, summit, end; like a dome. See
lealen; it is a neighbor of this.
ረያፂ/ Reyatsi: (ፂት ፅያን ያት) That which tames; tamer;
strict teacher. “ረያፄ አራስ” Reyatse aras: (አዋል).

ረዳ/ Reda: (ዐረ ወርድ። ዕብ ዌሬድ። ሱር ዋርዳ፤ ሮዳ። ጽር ሮዶን) A flowering tree,
its flower is very beautiful; delightful; its scent is sweet; captivating. “ጽጌ ረዳ።” Tsige Reda (Rose). “ንትቀጸል ጽጌ ረዳ።” Let us pick Tsige Reda. “ማርያም ድንግል ምዕዝት እምጽጌ ረዳ።” Mary, the virgin, is

firm; to thicken; to be like mud, bread, stone; of liquid. To be silent, to be
quiet, to be still; to not be disturbed; of the heart, of the mind. Their
hearts are settled like milk. “ረግዐ ከመ ሐሊብ ልቦሙ።” It settles like wax. “ይረግዕ ከመ ሠምዕ። እምከመ ረግዐ አስሐትያ።” Than the mistakes
were settled. “ይረግዕ ማይ ወይከውን ከመ እብን” Water settles and
becomes like stone: (መዝ: ፻፲፰። ሢራ፵፫: ፲፱። ስንክ: ኅዳ፲፱).
ረጊዝ ዞት/ Regiz zot: (ረገዘ ይረግዝ ይርግዝ። ዐረ ረከዘ፤ ቸከለ መደረ። ዕብ ራጋዝ፤ ተቈጣ ወገሽ) To pierce; to thrust;
to plant, to set; to penetrate, to drive in; to stab; to kill. (ተረከዝ/ Terekez means rlated to ረከዘ/ Rekeze ).
“ረገዞ ውስተ ከርሡ።” He pierced him in his
belly. “እለ በኵናት ረገዝዎሙ።” Those who pierced
them with spears. “አምጽእዎሙ ወርግዝዎሙ በቅድሜየ” Bring them and kill
them before me: (መሳ፫: ፳፩። ኤር፲፭: ፫። ሉቃ፲፱: ፳፯).

ረጊፅ/ Regits: (ረገፀ ይረግፅ ይርግፅ። ዐረ ረከፀ። ዕብ ራቃድ። ሱር ራቄድ) To tread; to make
tread; to shuffle; to dance; to jump, to bounce; to stamp; to stomp; to shuffle;
to descend in a dance; to sway, to fidget. Like asregats. See tsehase; it is a
neighbor of this.
: To trample; to wear out, to destroy; to kick; to lash; of mud, of
clothes, of straw, of leather; also for humans. To say bat finat entat; to
tread cattle. “ረገፀ ምድረ።” He trod the earth. “ረጊፅ ውስተ ቀኖት በሊኅ።” Trodden in a sharp
thorn. “ቦ ለዘረገዖ ወቦ ለዘወገሮ።” There is he who trod

drunkard: (፩ቆሮ: ፭: ፲፲፩).
ረጋፂ/ Regatsi: (ፂት ፅያን ያት) That which treads; treader;
trampler.
ረግሐ/ Regha: (ትግሬ) To be complete, to be full; to be
leveled, of a pit, of a road. To be firm, to be strong, to be hard; to be
startled; to become stone. See rega; it is a neighbor of this.
ረግረገ አ ተ/ Regrege a te: ረገረገ፤ አረገረገ፤ ተረገረገ/ Regerege; aregerege; teregerege. All are
Amharic.
ረግረግ/ Regreg: (ዐረ ሪግሪገት) ; swamp; watery place;
that which swallows when you tread it, that which makes you sink, that which
shakes, a place with reeds: (ዐማርኛ). A name derived
from the two: hareg and merege.
ረግን/ Regn: Ragn or ragnt is a

ሩማ አው አሩማ/ Ruma or Aruma: Name of a country; located
in the part of Judah; near Shechem: (፬ነገ: ፳፫: ፴፮። መሳ፱: ፵፩).
ሩባዔ/ Rubae: (ዕያት) Quarter; fourth; one carat: (አቡሻ: ፴፯).
ሩካቤ/ Rukabe: meeting; intercourse.

their race and died. “ሠናየ ሩጸት” A good race: (ኤር፰: ፲፮። ጥበ፲፮: ፲፰። መጽ: ምስ። ዲድ: ፳፮። አርጋ: ፩). Mirwats is used
instead of rutset; it is an error. “ፈጸምከ ምርዋጸከ።” You finished your
race. “ተፈጸመ ምርዋጹ።” His race was
completed. “ረሰየ ምርዋጸ ለምህሮ ወለገሥጾ” He appointed a race
for his teaching and rebuke: (ግንዘ። ስንክ: መጋ፩። ነሐ፯).
ሩፋኤል/ Rufael: (ዕብ ርፋኤል) Name of an angel; one
of the seven archangels; God of healing; God the healer; meaning he who is
appointed over healing. “ሩፋኤልኒ ሥራየ በዘአእመረ በዓሣሁ አሕየወ ዕዉረ” And Rufael, by the

ራስ/ Ras: (ዐማርኛ) reise; title of nobility; below the
king, above the nobles. “ወኀልቁ ብዙኃን መኳንንት፤ ወሞቱ ራስ ማሕፀንቱ ወራስ ዐምዱ ወካልአንሂ” And many nobles
perished; and Ras Mahitsentu and Ras Amdu and others also died: (ታሪ: ግራኝ).
ራስዕ/ Rase: (ዕት) He who forgot, he who neglected,
forgetful, foolish; sinner; lawless. “ኢኮነ ራስዐ ዘሰምዐ።” He who heard was not
forgetful. “ከመ ሶበ ራስዕ ይወድቅ ውስተ ምንዳቤ።” As when a forgetful
one falls into misery. “ኢኮንኩ ራስዐ ውስተ ሕግ” I was not forgetful

whiteness is like rice; a bird that resembles rice; anchita; sabisa; locust
eater; stork; or other. “ለእመ ጻዕደዉ ቋዳት ከመ ራዛ።” If their breasts are
white like raza. “ተኀፂቦ ይጻዐዱ እምራዛ።” They are washed white

with holy anointing, rihus. “ምድር ርሕስት ወጥልልት እማይ ትወልድ ዕፄያተ ብዙኀ።” A moist and tender
land brings forth many trees from water. “አቅረበ ኀቤሁ ኅብስተ ይቡሰ ወርሑሰ በማይ ወላዕሌሁ ዘይት ወጼው።” He brought him dry
bread and that which was moistened with water, with oil and salt on top. “ሕፍነ ዐተር ዘርሑስ በማይ” A handful of peas
that were moistened with water: (ደራሲ። አፈ: ተ፳፱። ፊልክ: ፻፴፪። ስንክ: ጥቅ፴).
ርሑቅ/ Rihuk: (ቃን ቃት ሕቅት) Distant; remote; far;
long; many. “ርሑቀ መዐት።” Distant wrath. “ርሑቅ ብሔር።” Distant land. “ርሑቅ ፍኖት።” Distant path. “ጊዜያት ርሑቃት” Distant times: (ዘፀ፴፬: ፮። ኢሳ፲፫: ፭። ፩ነገ: ፳፮: ፲፫። ሕዝ፲፪: ፳፯).
ርኁብ/ Rihub: (ባን ባት ኅብት) Hungry; distressed; faminestricken;
seized by famine; one who lacks food. “እስመ ርኁብ ሀገር።” For it is a hungry
land. “ርኁባኒሆሙ።” Their hungry ones. “ነፍስ ርኅብት” A hungry soul: (፬ነገ: ፯: ፬። ማር፰: ፫። ኢሳ፴፪: ፮).
ርሑፅ/ Rihuts: (ፃን ፃት ሕፅት፤ ረሓፅ) Washed; sweated,
moist; moist, sweaty; troubled; agitated; proud, thick, smooth; firm, solid. “እንተ ረሓፅኒ ወእንትሂ ድክምት” She who is moist and
also weak: (ዘዳ፳፰: ፶፮).
ርሒስ ሶት/ Rihis sot: (ርሕሰ ይርሕስ ይርሐስ፤ ርሕፀ። ዕብ ወሱር፤ ራስ፤ ረጠበ። ዐረ ረሸ፤ ረጨ) To moisten; to
sprinkle; to moisten, to soften; to satisfy; to soften; to saturate with water.
“ይርሕሱ አድባር እምደሞሙ” The mountains shall
be soaked with their blood: (ኢሳ፴፬: ፫። ስንክ: ታኅ፲፮).
ርሒቅ ቆት/ Rihik qot: (ርሕቀ ይርሕቅ ይርሐቅ። ዕብ ራሐቅ። ሱር: ርሔቅ) To be distant; to
move away; to separate; to distinguish; to cut off; to go away separately; to
step aside, to move away; to leave a place or relatives; to become foreign. “ርሕቀ እምኔየ ረድኤቱ።” His help is far from
me. “ነዋኀ ይርሕቁ እምኔየ።” My sorrows are far
from me. “ረሐቁ ረሐቁ ወፃኡ እምህየ።” Go away, go away, and
go out from there. “ረሐቂ እምዐመፃ።” Depart from iniquity.
“እምእግዚ ይርሕቅ ልቡ” His heart is far from
the Lord: (ኢዮ፮: ፲፫። ኢሳ፳፱: ፲፫። ፶፪: ፲፩። ፶፬: ፲፬። ኤር፲፯: ፭). Terihqe is used
instead of rihqe; it is an error. “እለ ይትረሐቁ እምእግዚአብሔር” Those who are far

ርሒብ ቦት/ Rihib bot: (ርኅበ ይርኅብ ይርኀብ። ዕብ ራዔብ፤ ዐረ ረዑበ ሰፋ) To expand; to spread; to be wide, spread,
flat, sloping, or convex. “ርሕበት አረፍተ ባቢሎን።” The expanse of
Babylons rest. “ከመ ይርሐብ እምላዕሉ።” That it may expand
from above. “ርሕበ አፉየ።” My mouth is wide
open. “ሠብሐ ወገዝፈ ወርሕበ: He was strengthened,
he grew, and he widened: (ኤር፳፰: ፶፰። ሕዝ፵፩: ፯። ፩ነገ: ፪: ፩። ዘዳ፴፪: ፲፭). Terihbe is used

very wide. “ፍኖት እንተ ትወስድ ውስተ ሀጕል ርሕብት ይእቲ።” The path that leads
to destruction is wide. “በምረቱ ርሕብት።” By his wide mercy. “ወምድርሰ ረሓብ።” And the land is wide.
“ዛቲ ባሕር ዐባይ ወረሓብ” This sea is great and
wide: (ኢሳ፵: ፬። አፈ: ተ፲፬: ፴፫። መዝ: ፻ና: ፻፲፰። ዘፍ፴፬: ፲። መሳ፲፰: ፲).
ርኂብ ቦት/ Rihib bot: (ርኅበ ይርኅብ ይርኀብ። ዕብ ራዔብ፤ ዐረ ረዑበ ሰፋ) To be hungry; to be
seized by famine; to be hungry; to be emptystomached; to seek food; to say let
me eat; to desire food; to crave. “ወመጽአ እምሐቅል ርኂቦ።” And he came from the
field hungry. “ብፁዓን እለ ይርኅቡ ወይጸምኡ።” Blessed are those who
hunger and thirst. “ርኅብኩ ወአብላዕክሙኒ።” I was hungry, and you

ርሒን ኖት/ Rihin not: (ረሐነ ይርሕን ይርሐን። ዐረ ረሐለ) To load; to burden; to
pile up; of a saddle. “ተንሥአ በጽባሕ ወረሐነ አድጎ።” He rose early in the
morning and loaded his donkey. “ወረሐኑ አልባሲሆሙ ላዕሌሆን” And they laid their
garments on them: (ዘፍ፳፪: ፫። ማቴ፳፩: ፯).
ርኂው ዎት/ Rihuw wot: (ርኅወ፤ ረኀወ ይርኁ ይርኀው። ርሕበ) To open, to expand; to
be open, wide, empty. See hwan; this is a part of it. But the book says ተርኅወ/ terihwe instead of ርኅወ/ rihwe; it is an error. “በኵሉ ጊዜ ይትረኀዉ አናቅጽኪ።” Your windows are
always opened. “ተርኅወ አስራበ ሰማይ።” The floodgates of the
sky were opened. “ወኮነ ዝ ምክንያተ ተርኅዎታ ለሀገር” And this became the
reason for the opening of the country: (ኢሳ፰: ፲፮። ዘፍ፯: ፲፩። ዮሴፍ).
ርሒፅ ፆት/ Rihits tsot: (ርሕፀ ይርሕፅ ይርሐፅ። ዐረ ረሐፀ። ዕብ ራሐጽ) To wash; to bathe; to
soak in water; to immerse. To sweat, to perspire; to moisten, to dampen; to
melt; to liquefy; to be thick and smooth. “ይርሕፁ አፍራስ እምጽንዐ ኀይሉ ።” Horses sweat from the
strength of their power. “ረሐፅከሂ ወለምለምከሂ” You are moist and
tender: (ገድ: ተክ። ዘዳ፳: ፶፬).
: To be disturbed; to be agitated; to be shaken; to be angry; to
reproach; to shout; of the sea, of trees from a storm; and it applies to people
as well. “ወርሕፀት ነፍሱ ለንጉሠ ሶርያ” And the soul of the
king of Syria was disturbed: (፬ነገ: ፮: ፲፮).
ርሔ/ Rehe [1]: (ሕያት) Good, pleasant smell; fragrance of
perfume; that which delights the heart; that which is pleasing and delicious to
the nose. And the good fragrance that smells from all pleasant smells: (ቀሌ። አርጋ። መጽ: ምስ). Variety of wine is
used instead of rehe; it is incorrect. “መላትሒሁ ከመ ርሒ አፈው።” His lips are like
pleasantsmelling perfumes. “መላትሒሁ ከመ ርሒ አፈው። ኣበትየከ እምርሔ አፈውየ” I have embraced you
with my pleasantsmelling perfumes: (ማሕ፭: ፲፫። ፰: ፪).
[2]: (ዕብ ሬሓን። ዐረ ረይሐን) Perfume; name of a
perfume; rihan; they plant it by filling small clay pots with soil; it has a
pleasant smell. “ዝክረ ስምኪ ዘይምዕዝ እምርሒ” The memory of your
name that is more fragrant than perfume: (ደራሲ).
ርኅሩኅ/ Rihruh: (ኃን ኃት ርኅት) merciful; gentle; mild,
tender; compassionate; merciful. “ዘቦ ተፋቅርሮ ርኅፍኅ ወትዐጋሚ ፣ውአእቱ።” He who has love and
is patient, he is. “መፍቀሬ ሰብእ ወርኅሩኅ።” Lover of people and
merciful. “ኮነ ትሑተ ወርኅሩኀ ልብ” He became humble and
merciful of heart: (ፍ: ነ: ፵፭። ጥበ፲፪: ፲፱። ዮሴፍ).
ርኅራኄ/ Rihrahe: mercy; tenderness; gentleness;
mildness. “ናሁ ጸንዐ ርኅራኄነ ላዕለ ውሉዶሙ።” Behold, our mercy is
strong upon their children. “ሃይማኖትነ ሃይማኖተ ምሕረት ወሣህል ወርኅራኄ” Our faith is a faith
of mercy, grace, and compassion: (ዮሴፍ። ፈ: መ: ፲፭: ፫).

ርሕብ ራሕብ/ Rihib rahib: Width; slope; side. “ኑኃ ወርሕባ።” Width and slope. “ርሕበ ምድር።” The width of the
earth. “ርሕበ ዓለም ኢያገምራ።” The width of the
world does not encompass it. “ምንትኑ ራሕቡ ወኑኁ።” What is its width and
slope. “በራሕቡ ለዓለም።” In the width of the
world. “ራሕበ ዘባኑ።” The width of his
back. “ውስተ ራሕበ ልብከ” Into the width of

ርሙም/ Rmumm: (ማን ማት ምምት) Silent; taciturn; quiet.
“እግዚአብሔር ርሙም በዑቃቤ ወኢመስተበቅል በይዋሄ” God is silent in
protection and not hasty in speech: (መጽ: ምስ).
ርሙይ/ Rmuy: (ያን ያት ሚት፤ ምይት) Thrown down; wounded;
pierced.
ርምየት/ Rimyet: (ታት) Throwing down; piercing; wounding; piercing,
wounding. Wounds, scars, injuries; swelling, swellings. “ገሲሶ ገቦ ሥጋሁ ወርምየተ ስቍረተ ቅንዋቲሁ።” He pierced the side
of his flesh and the piercing of the breaking of his nails. “አርእየኒ ርምየታቲከ።” Show me your wounds. “ከመ ርምየት” Like a wound: (ቄር። ፊልክ: ፪፻፰። ዘሌ፲፫: ፪: ፲። ፲፰: ፲፱: ፳: ፳፪: ፳፬).

ርሱን/ Rsun: (ናን ናት ስንት) Heated, glowing; refined,
tested. “ብርት ርሱን።” Glowing bronze. “ርሱናን አምሳለ ላህቡ ለብርተ ሊባኖስ።” Glowing ones like the
flame of the bronze of Lebanon. “ርሱን ቃልከ ፈድፋደ።” Your glowing word is
very much. “ብሩር ርሱን ልሳነ ጻድቅ” Refined silver is the
tongue of the righteous: (ዳን፲: ፮። ስንክ: የካ፮። መዝ: ፻፲፰። ምሳ፲: ፳).
ርሡእ/ Risu: (ኣን ኣት ሥእት) Aged; senile; old; elder;
grayhaired: (ዘፀ፫: ፲፮).
ርሱዕ/ Risu: Forgotten; neglected.

ርሱይ/ Rsuy: (ያን ያት ሲት) Done; made,
prepared, ready; adorned, clothed; decorated, rewarded, reward; armed, lined
up. “ጽርሕ ርሱይ።” A prepared palace. “ቤት ርሱይ።” A prepared house. “መንበረ ወርቅ ርሱይ።” A prepared golden
throne. “ብእሲ ዘርሱይ በቀጠንተ አልባስ።” A man who is prepared
with fine clothes. “ወአዋልዲሆሙኒ ርሱያት።” And their maidens are
also prepared. “የዐቅብ ኀያል ዐጸዶ ርሱየ በንዋየ ሐቅል።” The strong one who guards

writing. “ቀለመ ርሳስ” Pencil lead; to write with. ቀለመ/Qelem is its wooden part; but in Amharic ርሳስ/ risas is the lead part.
ርስሕ ርስሓ/ Rish riha: This is like that; dirt,
filth; sin, evil.
»ርስት/ Rist: (ታት) place, land that they inherit and
bequeath. “ወሀቦን አቡሆን ርስቶን።” Their father gave
them their inheritance. “ስአል እምኔየ ወእሁበከ አሕዛበ ለርስትከ እስራኤል ርስትየ።” Ask of me, and I will
give you the nations for your inheritance, Israel my inheritance. “ዐረቦነ ርስትነ።” Our pledge, our
inheritance. “ወጸውዖሙ ውስተ ርስቱ ዘለዓለም” And he called them

ርስን ረስን/ Risn resn: Resn; heat; intensity;
warmth; scorching heat; anger; fire; burning. “በርስነ ኀጺን ውዕያ።” By the heat of iron. “ርስነ መለኮት ገሰሰት እዴሁ።” The heat of divinity
touched his hands. “ይቈርር እንከ ርስነ ጥብዐቶሙ።” Then the heat of
their strength will cool. “ማዕተበ ረስን” A seal of heat: (ስንክ: የካ፳፭። ድጓ። ፊልክ: ፬። ሥር: ጳኵ).
ርሥአት/ Risat: Risat; aging; senility.
Old age; senility. “አብርሃም ወለደ በርሥአቱ።” Abraham begot in his
old age. “ኢታስተአክዮ ለሰብእ በርሥኦቱ” Do not despise a man
in his old age: (ዘፍ፳፩: ፪: ፯። ሢራ፰: ፮).
ርስዐት/ Risat: Forgetting; negligence.
Forgetting, negligence; ignorance; sin, evil. Deep forgetting. “ርስዐት ዕሙቅ። ወአስሐቶሙ ርስዐት። ለኵሉ ግብር ቦቱ መከራ፤ መከራሁ ለንጽሕ ዝሙት፤ መከራሁ ለጽንዕ ድካም፤ መከራሁ ለአእምሮ ርስዐት።” And forgetfulness led
them astray. Every deed has its trouble; the trouble of purity is adultery; the
trouble of strength is weakness; the trouble of knowledge is forgetting. “ልማደ እብሰት ወርስዐት” Habit of shame and
forgetting: (ጥበ፲፮: ፲፲፩። ፲፱: ፬። ፈላስ። ጥበ፲፬: ፲፮። ሔኖ፰: ፪).
ርሥኣን/ Risan: This is also like
that. “ጹር ርሥኣኒሁ ለአቡከ።” Bear the old age of
your father. “እምድኅረ ርሥኣኑ ወድክመቱ።” After his old age and
weakness. “ታወርዱ ርሥኣንየ በሐዘን ውስተ መቃብር” You bring down my old
age to the grave in sorrow: (ሢራ፫: ፲፪። ፊልክ: ፶፪። ዘፍ፵፬: ፳፱). Risuan or elders,
wise men is used instead of risan; it is a scribal error. “ሑር ወአስተጋብእ ርሥኣኒሆሙ ለውሉደ እስራኤል” Go and gather their
elders from the children of Israel: (ዘፀ፫: ፲፮).
ርስዓን/ Risan: Forgetfulness,
foolishness; sin, evil. “ረሲዕኒ ወርስዓኑ” He forgot me and his
forgetfulness: (ጥበ፲፬: ፱። መጽ: ምስ። ስንክ: ጥቅ፱).
ርሥእ/ Risi: Old age; senility; gray
hair. “በርሥእ ሠናይ።” Good in old age. “መዋዕለ ርሥእየ።” The days of my old

carelessness; sin, evil, violence. “አሌ ሎሙ ለእለ ይገብሩ ርስዕናተ ወነገረ ሐሰት ይሴብሑ ወያከብሩ” Woe to those who do
forgetfulness and praise and honor false words: (ሔኖ፺፱: ፩).
ርስሐት/ Rishat: Defiling; contaminating.
Dirt; sin; shame, disgrace; unlawful deed; that which is reprehensible and
detestable to the doer. That they may wash away defilement with water. “የኀፅብ ርስሐቶሙ ለደቂቀ ጽዮን።” He will wash away the
defilements of the daughters of Zion. “ይርክብክሙ ዘእንበለ ርስሐት።” “ርስሐት ርኩስ።” Unclean defilement. “ርስሐተ ሥጋ ወነፍስ።” He will find you
without defilement. “ርስሐተ ሥጋ ወነፍስ።” Defilement of flesh
and soul. “ይኩን ንጹሐ እምኵሉ ነውራት ወርስሐታት።” May he be pure from
all disgraces and defilements. “ርስሐታተ ኅሊናተ እኪት” Defilements of evil
thoughts: (ደራሲ። ኢሳ፬: ፬። ኩፋ: ፳፪። ፪ጴጥ: ፫: ፲፬። ዲድ: ፴፱። ፈ: መ: ፳፩: ፫። ፊልክ: ፻፫).

ርዱእ/ Ridu: (ኣን ኣት ድእት) Understood, he who
