~ ኀ/ Ha ~
ኀ/ Hhe: The ninth letter; the third of ha ሀ, the second of ሐውት/ hawət ሐ. Its name is ḫärm; but
scribes call it ብዙኃ/ bəzuḥan (many). Its being ninth is only in appearance; it is not ninth
in alphabetical order like ጤ; its being third and
second is in sound and the length of pronunciation. Since ፀጰ ፀ is a diphthong of ጸ, it is doubled from its origin ጸ, and is not counted separately; since ኀርም/ ḫärm ኀ is a diphthong of ሐ, it is doubled with ሐ and is not counted separately; it
does not have the regularity of the twentytwo letters. However, in alphabetical
numeration, when written after ታው, ኀ (haq) is called 500,
ፀ (waqa) is called 600;
ጰ and ፐ follow these. Its
being 500 is because ኀመሰ and ኀምስት ኀምሳ (fifty and five
fifties) are written with ḫärm; because it has the mystery of five.
Furthermore, since it is the ninth letter in appearance and sequential number, ኈ, following ፐ, becomes the number
for 900 and is written as ninth; this shows the progression ጰ 700; ፐ 800; ኈ 900; see አበገደ/ ʾäbugida.
In the Arabic script, the sound of ኀ and ፀ is different from the sound of ሐ and ጸ, but their
appearance is the same; they have no distinguishing mark except for a dot; like
ገ and ጐ, or ከ and ኰ. However, in the Geez
script, they have no difference in appearance but only in sound; only by
writing are the mystery and word, the synonym of the language, distinguished; their
difference disappeared after the time of ከፍሬ ምናጦስ/ fəre mənaṭs. Before that, it is said that the
sound of ḫärm ኀ was like this: ኅኻ ኁኹ ኂኺ (ኃኻ) ኄኼ ኅኽ ኆኾ; and the fourth form ኃ, like its appearance, has a difference in sound and
mystery; it opens the mouth; it shows detail. But in Arabic, the Geez ኀ is called ኸ. In Hebrew also, it
is spoken as a doubled (kaf) as we write it now; Hebrews add a dot to to make
it (kh), and leave out the dot to make it (k) its form is of two types. In
Amharic and Tigrinya, saying (kaf) as ኀ like ኀርም/ ḫärm or ኸ is a Hebrew rule; it is not Arabic or
Geez.

To worry, to be near death; meaning
the soul is about to depart from the body; to cease; of breath, of speech: “ሶበ ኀልቀት ነፍስየ።” When my soul fainted within me. “ይኅልቅ ነገሩ” His speech will cease (ዮና፪: ፰። Instead of saying, “ይባእ ነገረ ክልኤሆሙ ኀበ ፈታሕት” / "Let the case
of both of them come before the judges,” it says, “ይኅልቆሙ በበይናቲሆሙ ይላል” / "Let them decide between themselves"; it
is a mistake of the translator (ዘፀ: ፳፪: ፱).
watch; night watchman.” They

To long for; to desire, to yearn for” ኀለሰፈት ነፍስየ ውስተ አድኅኖትከ” My
soul longed for your salvation (መዝ: ፻፲፳). Saying "good” or "fine” meaning
"passing” in Amharic comes from this; see ምኅላፍ/ məḫəlaf. Those who do not write the aspirate
use ኀፈን ገባ and give its proof; ኀለፈት ሰንበት/ ḫäläfät
sänbät (passing of the Sabbath). And they say ወየኀልፍ ሐጽ ውስተ ሥጋሁ/ wäyäḫälf ḥaṣə wəstä śəgahu (and a worm will
pass into his flesh) it is incorrect (ማር፲፮: ፩። Furthermore, instead of ኀለፈ / ḫäläfä, it says ተኀለፈ/ täḫäläfä; it is a mistake. There is no secret
that can be hidden from you. “ኢትትኀለፎ ለዘይስእለከ” Do not pass by the one who asks you (ሄርማ።

grace abounded all the more; where sin increased. “ኀበ ጸንዐ ክረምት ይበዝኁ አንቅዕት ።” Where winter is
severe, hail increases (ሮሜ፮: ፳። When it is of, it
is an adjective of place; it is used in oaths. “ወንሰግር ውስተ መካን ኀበ ቆመ እግረ እግዚእነ።” Let us go to the

remains as an intensifier. “ቦ ብሔር እምኀበ ይወፅእ ብሩር፤ የሚወጣበት።” There is a place from

in and as, it is used with the past tense (ማር፲፮: ፬። When it is while and when, it is used in
requests and prophecies. “ቤተሳኦል ኀበ ኀበ ይትነሠት ሖረ፤ ወቤተ ዳዊትሰ ኀበ ኀበ ይጸንዕ፤ እየ እየ።” The house of Saul
went on declining, and the house of David went on increasing; while, while. “ኀበ ኀበ ይተብዕ ይትቃተል፤ ኀበ ኀበ ይፈርህ ይጐይይ፤ ኢ ሲ።” Wherever he pursues,
he fights; wherever he fears, he flees; not so. In this way of interpretation,
it is like ʾənzä (while), and what is said from afar becomes close,
slight, and thin. While, while I fear; slight. While,
while I gain; thin. Its being Geez is only when it is conjugated; but when it
is used as a preposition and elaborated, it changes to the fifth form, like ኀቤየ (to me, to you (masc. sing.), to him,
to her). When it is minor, it enters into place and person, meaning to, near,
towards; to and near are one in mystery. “እንተ ሀለወት ኀበ አብ።” She who was with the
Father. “ነበረ ኀበ ዐዘቅት።” He was near the
abyss. “አሐውር ኀበ አብ ።” I am going to the
Father (፩ዮሐ: ፩: ፪። Sometimes, for and
in, they use it as an intensifier and remaining as is, they exaggerate it. Hermits who exchanged
for the world; to. “ተላውያን ለኀበ ቃሉ፤ ቃሉን ወይም እንደቃሉ ያሰኛል።” Messengers to his

the one who acquired it; where. “ሠረገላ በኀበ ይጼዐን፤ አዳማቂ ።” A chariot by which
it is carried; intensifier (ፊልክ: ፭። Furthermore,
instead of until, from, before, they say ለኀበ and በኀበ; it is a mistake of
the translator. “መርሕ ለኀበ ክርስቶስ።” A guide to Christ. “ኢትንሥኡ ቤዛ በኀበ ቀታሊ።” Do not accept a
ransom for a murderer. “ዘበኀበ ሰብእ ዐቢይ፤ በኀበ እግዚ ትሑት ወርኩስ።” He who is great among men is humble
