~ / Ha ~

/ Hhe: The ninth letter; the third of ha , the second of ሐውት/ hawət . Its name is ḫärm; but scribes call it ብዙኃ/ bəzuḥan (many). Its being ninth is only in appearance; it is not ninth in alphabetical order like ; its being third and second is in sound and the length of pronunciation. Since ፀጰ is a diphthong of , it is doubled from its origin , and is not counted separately; since ኀርም/ ḫärm is a diphthong of , it is doubled with and is not counted separately; it does not have the regularity of the twentytwo letters. However, in alphabetical numeration, when written after ታው, (haq) is called 500, (waqa) is called 600; and follow these. Its being 500 is because ኀመሰ and ኀምስት ኀምሳ (fifty and five fifties) are written with ḫärm; because it has the mystery of five. Furthermore, since it is the ninth letter in appearance and sequential number, , following , becomes the number for 900 and is written as ninth; this shows the progression 700; 800; 900; see አበገደ/ ʾäbugida. In the Arabic script, the sound of and is different from the sound of and , but their appearance is the same; they have no distinguishing mark except for a dot; like and , or and . However, in the Geez script, they have no difference in appearance but only in sound; only by writing are the mystery and word, the synonym of the language, distinguished; their difference disappeared after the time of ከፍሬ ምናጦስ/ fəre mənaṭs. Before that, it is said that the sound of ḫärm was like this: ኅኻ ኁኹ ኂኺ (ኃኻ) ኄኼ ኅኽ ኆኾ; and the fourth form , like its appearance, has a difference in sound and mystery; it opens the mouth; it shows detail. ኑኅ, ኑኃ. ብዝኅ, ብዝኃ. But in Arabic, the Geez is called . In Hebrew also, it is spoken as a doubled (kaf) as we write it now; Hebrews add a dot to to make it (kh), and leave out the dot to make it (k) its form is of two types. In Amharic and Tigrinya, saying (kaf) as like ኀርም/ ḫärm or is a Hebrew rule; it is not Arabic or Geez.
