ማሄለክ/ Mahielek: (ዕብ ማሃላኽ) Walkway; A place for
walking, a place for going back and forth; a winding path: (ሕዝ፵፪: ፬).
ማኅለቅት/ Mahleqt: End: An end, a conclusion; a boundary, a completion. “ጥንት፤ ወማኅለቅት።” Beginning; and end. “ይርአይ ማኅለቅቶ ለነገር።” Let him see the end
of the matter. “ወማኅለቅቱሰ ለጽድቀ አሪት።” And its end is the
righteousness of the upright. “ወአልቦ ማኅለቅት ለመንግሥቱ” And there is no end
to his kingdom: (ኢሳ፲፱: ፲፭። ማቴ፳፮: ፶፯። ሮሜ፲: ፬። ሉቃ፩: ፴፯).
ማሕለብ/ Mahleb: (ብ መሓልብ) Milking pail; A
milking pail; a milk container, a tool.
ማኅለፍት/ Mahleft: (ታት) Ascension; This is
the same. “ጸሎተ ማኅለፍተ ነፍስ።” Prayer for the
ascension of the soul. “ማኅለፍታተ ነፍሶሙ ግዑዘ ዘእንለ ክልአት” The ascensions of
their souls are heavy without hindrance: (ግንዘ). It means the way to heaven.
ማሕሌታዊ/ Malitawi: (ታይ) Hymnist; A person
of hymns; a debtera (church scholar) who praises; one who composes
independently. And his voice is a good voice; one who warms and illuminates the
hymn; who knows how to sing, chant, intone, emphasize, and beat the drum. “ማሕሌታይ ሚካኤል መዐርዒረ ዜማ።” Michael the hymnist,
arranger of melodies. “ያሬድ ማሕሌታይ” Yared the hymnist: (ደራሲ። ስንክ: ግን፲፩። አፈ: ተ፳፬).
ማሕሌት/ Mahlie t [1]: (ታት። አው ማሕልይ፤ ብ መሓልይ) A song of praise; a
chant, a melody; a liturgy, a glorification; a poem, a verse; a large gathering
of people singing. “ማሕሌተ አብድ።” The hymn of the
servant. “አዋልደ ማሕሌት።” Children of the hymn.
“አልቦ ዘይክል አእምሮታ ለይእቲ ማሕሌት ዘእንበለ እልክቱ።” No one can understand
that hymn except those. “ያስምዕክሙ ቃለ መሰናቁት ዘሕፃናት ወማሕሌተ ዘመላእክት።” He makes you hear the
words of praise of children and the hymn of angels. “ተስእሉነ ነገረ ማሕሌት ወይቤኡነ ሕልዮ ለነ እማሕልዪሃ ለጽዮን፤ እፎ ነሐሊ ማሕሌተ እግዚ በምድር ነኪር።” They asked us about
the hymn and demanded of us a thought from the hymns of Zion; how shall we sing
the Lords hymn in a foreign land. “ማሕልየ መሓልይ ዘሰሎሞን” The Song of Songs of
Solomon: (መክ፯: ፭። ፲፪: ፬። ራእ፲፬: ፫። ቅዳ: ሕር። መዝ: ፻፴፮። ማሕ: ፩).

ማሕመሚ/ Mahmemi: Painful: This is the same. “ዝብጠት ማሕመሚ” A painful blow: (ፈ: መ: ፰: ፫).
ማኅሜ/ Mahmie: (ያት) Bond; A binding; a
fetter. “ፈትሐ ማኅሜሁ እመዝራዕቱ።” He broke his bonds
from his arms. “ወፈትሕዎ እማኅሜሁ እመዝራዕቱ።” And they released him
from the bonds of his arms. “ወፈትሕዎ እማኅሜሁ ለአክዮር።” And they released
Achior from his bonds. “እበትክ ማኅሜከ” I will break your
bonds: (መሳ፲፭: ፲፬። ዮዲ፮: ፲፫። ናሖ፩: ፲፫).
ማሕምም ማሕመም/ Mah.mm Mah.mem: (ጥሬና ቅጽል) Pain; Labor pain,
distress. “አኀዞሙ ማሕምም” Pain seized them: (ዘፀ፲፭: ፲፬). “የሚያሳምም የሚጐዳ፤ የሚያስጨንቅ።” That which causes
pain, that which hurts; that which troubles. “ዘበጥዎ ዝብጠተ ዐቢየ ወማሕምመ” They struck him with
a great and painful blow: (ስንክ: መጋ፳፯).
ማኅሠሥ/ Mahssess: (ማሠሻ) Investigation: This
is the same. “ብዙኅ ጻሕቁ ወፍድፉድ ማኅሠሡ።” Much labor and
diligent investigation. “እንዘ ይትለአክዎ ዘልፈ መላእክት ለማኅሠሡ።” While the angels were
always sent for his investigation. “ሶበ አናኅከ ማኅሠሠ።” When we investigated.
“ማኅሠሥ ዘላዕለ እምልብ” Investigation that is
above the heart: (ስንክ: መስ፰። ግን፳፱። ሐም፮። ቄር: እስት).
ማሕስዕ ዕት/ Mah.see eet: (ብ መሓስዕ ዓት) Lamb: Or mehasee; A
lamb; weaned; a yearold young sheep. “ማሕስዐ በግዕ።” A lamb of sheep. “ማሕስዐ ጠሊ።” A lamb of goat. “መሐስዐ በግዕ አሐዱ።” One lamb of sheep. “እምአይቴ ዛቲ መሐስዕት” From where is this
lamb. (ዘፍ፴፩: ፴፰። ፩ነገ: ፲፮: ፳። ፯: ፱። ጦቢ፪: ፲፫). “መሓስዐ አባግዕ።” Lambs of sheep. መሓስዐ አጣሊ። Lambs of goats. “ሰረሩ ዲበ እልኩ መሓስዕ” He rode upon that
lamb: (መዝ: ፻፲፫። ሢራ፵፯: ፫። ማሕ፩: ፰። ሔኖ: ፸፩ክ).
ማሕረስ/ Mah.res: (ብ መሓርስ) A plowshare; a tool
for plowing; iron made separately like a spear and attached to the plow. “ወማሕረሰክሙ አግብሩ ኵያንወ።” And turn your
plowshares into swords. “ወይመትሩ ኵያንዊሆሙ ለማሕረስ።” And they shall beat
their swords into plowshares. “ግብረ ማሕረስ፤ ዕርሻ ቍፋሮ” The work of plowing; farming,
digging: (ዮኤ፫: ፲። ሚክ፬: ፫። ዘኍ፳፰: ፲፰).
ማህረከ/ Mahreke: (ይማሀርክ፤ ይማህርክ፤ ተቀ ግ፤ ወይም የመሀከ ስሯጽ) He captured; He
captured, he plundered and took as free; he brought and presented to himself; through
teaching, through miracles; or through war. “ይማሀርኮሙ ለጽኑዓን።” He will capture the
strong ones. “ማህረኩ ወቀተሉ ደቀከ።” They captured and
killed your children. “ወማህረከ እንስሳሆሙ።” And he captured their
animals. “ማህረክዎሙ ምህርካ ብዙኀ” He captured them with
much plunder: (ኢሳ፶፫: ፲፪። ኢዮ፩: ፲፯። ዮዲ፪: ፳፯። ፪ዜና: ፲፬: ፲፫).
ማሕረከ/ Mahreke: He captured; he taught, he learned, he captured.
ማሕረጽ/ Mah.tets: (ጻን ት፤ መሓርጽ) Millstone; A grinder,
a means of grinding; a mill, for grinding grain; its stones are two, fitted
together; like a millstone (for grinding sesame) and a millstone (for grinding
barley) like a flat basket and a flat basket joined together, with only the
upper one turning and rotating. Or a standing mill, a place for grinding; both
its mother (lower stone) and its child (upper stone) are round; women push and
move it with both hands. “አመት እንተ ትነብር ዲበ ማሕረጽ።” A year that she lived

millstone. “ስባረ ማሕረጽ” A piece of a
millstone: (ማቴ፲፰: ፮። ራእ፲፰: ፳፩። መሳ፱: ፶፫).
ማህር/ Mahr: (ብ አምህርት) Teacher; This village
is the same. “አእላፍ አምህርት” Thousands of teachers:
(፩ቆሮ: ፬: ፲፭).
ማኅበራዊ/ Mahberawi: Social: Of the community; a member of a community; having
community. “አኀው ማኅበራውያን፤ መነኮሳት ማኅበራውያን” Social brothers; monastic
communities: (ሥር: ጳኵ).
ማኅበር/ Mahber: (ራን) Community; unity; assembly,
council, many people; church. “ሥርዐተ ማኅበር።” The order of the
community. “ዕቀብ ማኅበረነ።” Keep our community. “ማኅበሮሙ ለነቢያት።” The community of the
prophets. “ማኅበረ ሕዝብ።” The community of the
people. “ማኅበረ ሠለስቱ አስማት” The community of the
three names: (ስንክ: መስ፳፬። ቅዳ። ፩ነገ: ፲፱: ፳። ኤር፴፫: ፲፯። አርጋ).
: Tribe, nation; family, troop; army. “ሰራዊተ ገብርኤል በበ ማኅበሮሙ።” The army of Gabriel
according to their divisions. “ዳታን ወአቤሮን ወማኅበራኒሆሙ።” Dathan and Abiram and
their companies. “ማኅበሩ ለዲዮቅልጥያኖስ” The company of
Diocletian: (ቅዳ: ያዕ። ፈ: መ: ፫: ፫። ስንክ: ሐም፩).
ማኅበርት/ Mahbert: (ታት) Fold; Double, twofold;
a layer. “መኑ ይበውእ ውስተ ማኅበርተ እንግድዓሁ” Who can enter into
the folds of his garment. (ኢዮ፵፩: ፬).
: The joining of a garment; a seam, a fastening, a loop. “ወውስተ ክልኤሆን ማኅበርቱ።” And the joining of
the two: (ዘፀ፴፮: ፳፭).
ማኅበብ ት/ Mahbeb t: (ታት። መኃብብ) Winepress; A
winepress; a place for treading, a place for pressing. “ወይነ ማኅበብትከ።” The wine of your
winepresses. “በእንተ ማኅበብት” Because of the
winepresses: (ምሳ፫: ፲። መዝ: ፰).
ማኅበዝ ምኅባዝ/ Mahbez mhbaz: Oven: A place for
baking; an oven, a kitchen. “ጢሰ ማኅበዝ።” The smoke of the
oven. “ቦ ዘይትቀነይ ምድረ ወየሐርስ፤ ቦ ዘገነት ወቦ ዘዐጸደ ሐምል፤ ቦ ዘይጸርብ ወቦ ዘይገልፍ ወቦ ዘምኅባዝ፤ አልቦ ዘይትናገር ውስተ ምኅባዝ እንዘ ይገብሩ ኅብዝተ” There is one who
cultivates the land and plows; there is a garden, and there is a vegetable
garden; there is one who weaves, and there is one who spins, and there is an
oven; no one speaks in the oven while they are making bread: (አዋል። ሥር: ጳኵ). Instead of ምኅባዝ (oven), it says ምኅማዝ (heat), which is a mistake. “ኢውዕየት ቀዊማ ማእከለ ውዑይ ወርሱን ምኅማዝ” A fire was standing
between the hot and the cold oven: (ስንክ: ግን፳).
ማኅተም/ Mahtem: (ማት፤ መኃትም። ዐረ ኅትም። ዕብ ሖታም) Seal; a stamp, a
means of stamping; a lock for a door or a thing; a fingerprint, a mark of a
fingernail; a signet ring whose setting is a seal; on which a name and likeness
are engraved; having the quality of a ring and a seal: (ዳን፮: ፲፯። አስቴ፰: ፰). “እንዘ ኢያርኁ ማኅተመ ድንግልናሃ።” While they did not
remove the seal of her virginity. “ምጽዋቱ ለሰብእ ከመ ማኅተም ምስሌሁ።” The charity of a man
is like a seal with him. “ዘኀተመኪ በሰብዐቱ መኃትም” He who sealed you
with the seven seals: (ቅዳ። ሢራ፲፯: ፳፪። ራእ: ባሮ).

metal and lead, with letters in their respective names and forms. “ንሕነ ገበርነ ዘንተ ማኅተመ ወኀተምነ መጻሕፍተ ፡” We made this seal and printed books: (አዋል). It is said that
the work of printing began in ባ፲፬፻፴፮ ዓ.ም./ 1436 A.M.; and it was started by two German scholars
named Gutenberg and Fust.
: The name of a formula, the middle formula; its number is ፸፮/ 76 years. In this,
the epact and the evangelist meet; the epact is zero, the evangelist is
Matthew. “ዐውደ ማኅተም ፡” The cycle of the seal: (መር ፡ ዕዉ).
ማሕተት/ Mahtet: (ብ መሓትት) Witness; A witness; a
trustworthy person, a living elder. “ስምዕ አሐዱ ኢይከውን ማሕተተ ለአቅትሎ መንፈስ።” One witness shall not
be sufficient to condemn a man to death. “አነ ማሕተቶሙ።” I am their witness. “ከናፍሪከ ማሕተትከ” Your lips are your
witness. “ማሕተቶሙ ለኃጥኣን ሞት።” The witness of
sinners is death. “መጽሐፈ ማሕተትየ ዝኩ ኅቱም።” This is my sealed
book of testimony: (ዘኍ፴፭: ፴። ሮሜ፲: ፪። ኢዮ፲፭: ፮: ፴፬። ኤር፴፱: ፲፩: ፲፪). Instead of መሓትት (witnesses), it says ማሕተት (witness), which is a mistake. “ዘኢዘለፍዎ ማሕተት በገጽ” Those who did not
despise the witness in person: (ግብ፳፭: ፲፮).
ማኅትው/ Mahtw: (ዋት፤ አው መኃትው) Lampstand; A light, a
lampstand, a candlestick, a lantern, and the like. “ሰብዑ መኃትዉ ዘወርቅ።” Seven golden
lampstands. “ወክልኤቱ መኃትው” And the two
lampstands: (ራእ፩: ፲፪: ፲፫። ፲፩: ፬).
: ዋዜማ/ Vespers, a minor
feast like Saturday; when lights are lit. “ኢትስግድ በዕለተ እሑድ ወኢበማኅትዊሃ።” Do not prostrate
yourself on Sunday or on its eve. “ሰንበት ማኅትወ ፋሲካ” Saturday, the eve of
Passover: (ኒቅ። ዲድ: ፴). The first hymn that is sung before vespers;
which is said in the morning of the vespers day at dawn: (ድጓ).
ማኅቶት ማኅ(ተ) ትው/ Mahtot mah(te) tw: (ብ መኃትው ዋት) Lamp; A torch, a
light; of wax, of oil; and of other kinds. “ወማኅቶት ውስተ እደዊሆሙ።” And lamps in their
hands. “ማኅቶት ዘየ(ያ) ኀቱ።” A lamp that burns. “መኃትወ ጽጕ” A lamp of
righteousness: (ኩፋ: ፳፫። ዮሐ፭: ፴፭። ፲፰: ፫).
ማሕነክ/ Mahnek: (ብ መሓንክ) Jaw; A jaw for
chewing; the teeth of a machine; a meat grinder; a mans trap; that which
grinds, crushes, pounds, cuts, and tears meat from its bones. “መንሰክ ወማሕነክ።” A jaw and a jaw. “ወአንተሰ እስክንድር ንጉሥ ተዐቀብ፤ እስመ አልቦ ዘይወፅእ እምድኅረ ቦአ ውስተ ዛቲ ሀገር እምነጋድያን ከመ ይንግር ዜና ለእለ ይመጽኡ፤ ወአዝዞሙ ለሰራዊትከ ይትዐቀቡ፤ እስመኀበ ኆኅትሂ ወማእከለ ቤትሂ ወማዕገትሂ ሀሎ ማሕነክ ወሠርምወማዕምቅ፤ ወእምድኅረ ወድቀአልቦ ዘይትነሣእ፤ አላ ይትከዐው አማዑቱ ወይትቀጠቀጥ አዕፅምቱ” And you, King
Alexander, beware; for no merchant who enters this land leaves to tell news to
those who come; and command your soldiers to be careful; for at the gate, in
the middle of the house, and in the courtyard, there is a jaw and a deep pit; and
after falling, no one rises; but their intestines are torn out and their bones
are crushed: (አዋል። ዜና: እስ).
ማህከወ/ Makewe: (ተቀ ግ። መሀከ) He terrified; He
frightened.
ማህው/ Mahwu: (ብ ማህዋት፤ አምሃው። ዐረ መሃት) Glass; The clay,
soil, and stone from which crystal, glass, and mirrors are made, which melts
and dissolves like lime; or that which is made from it. “መስተገብራነ ማህው።” The works of glass. “አምጽኡ ሎሙ እምህየ ሕምዘ በማህው።” Bring them from there
unleavened bread in glass. “ጽዋዐ ማህው።” A glass cup. “እለ ይሰትዩ ወይነ በማህው ወቢረሌ።” Those who drink wine
in glass and crystal. “ማህው ለእመ ተሰብረ አልቦ ዘያስተጣግዖ ዘእንበለ ገባሪሁ።” If glass breaks, no
one can mend it except its maker. “ስባራተ ማህው በሊኃት” The fragments of
glass are sharp: (ስንክ: ኅዳ፳፩። ዮሴፍ። አርጋ። ዓሞ፮: ፮። ያዕ: ዘእል። ሢራ፵፫: ፲፱).
ማሕዘል ልት/ Mahzel lt: (ብ መሓዝል፤ ላት) Saddle girth; A
saddle girth; a strap under the belly of a horse.
ማሕዘኒ ማሕዝን/ Mahzeni Mahzn: (ቅጽልና ጥሬ) Sad; That which
causes sadness; sad. A cause of sadness; a means of causing sadness. “ሞት ማሕዘኒ።” Sad death. “ቃል ማሕዘኒ።” Sad word. “ማሕዘነ ኮኖ ዝ ቃል።” This word was sad. “ኅዳጥ ውእቱ ንብረትነ ወማሕዝን።” Our possessions are
few and sad. “በአርኣያ ማሕዘን” In the likeness of
sadness: (አዋል። ስንክ: ጥቅ፳፭። ኩፋ: ፲፯። ጥበ፪: ፩። አፈ: ተ፲፩).
ማሕየብ/ Mah.yob [1]: (ባት) Well A place for
drawing water, a place for dipping; a water vessel. “ማሕየብኒ አልብከ።” You have no well. “ከመ ነጠብጣበ ማሕየብ።” Like the dripping of
a well. “ማሕየበ ዐዘቅት።” The well of the
abyss. “ምልኢዮን ለኵሎን ማሕየባት” Full for all wells: (ዮሐ፬: ፲፩። ኢሳ፵: ፲፭። ፍ: ነ: ፴፮። ስንክ: ሠኔ፳).

ማሕይው ማሕየዊ/ Mahyw Mahyewi: (ዊት ውያን ያት) Savior; That which
saves; a renewer, a healer; a lifegiver. “ማሕይዉ ለኵሉ ሰብእ።” The savior of all
people. “እግዚእ ማሕየዊ።” Lord, the savior. “ሕማማቲሁ መድኀኒት ወማሕየዊት” His sufferings are
medicine and healing: (፩ጢሞ: ፬: ፲። ቅዳ).
ማኅደር/ Mahder: (ራት፤ መኃድር። ዐረ ኂድር። ዕብ ሔዴር) A dwelling place, a
settlement, a house, a cave; a sleeping place, a bedroom; a special room built
in large houses with a door and window; a tent, a grave. It is said for every
place that serves as a dwelling. “ማኅደረ እንግዳ።” A guest room. “አተዉ ማኅደሪሆሙ።” They entered their
dwelling places. “እንታክቲ ማኅደር።” A place of refuge. “በእንተ ማኅደራት።” Because of the
dwelling places. “ሲሳይ ወዐራዝ ማኅደር።” Food and clothing, a
dwelling place. “ተከለ ማኅደረ።” He pitched his
dwelling place. “ማኅደሩ ለኵሉ ዘሞተ ምድር” His dwelling place is
for all the dead of the earth: (ኪዳ። ዮዲ፲፫: ፩። አፈ: ተ፳፰። ፍ: ነ: ፳፫: ፴፪። ዘፍ፴፭: ፲፮። ኢዮ፴: ፳፫).
: A cycle; the name of a cycle; the solar cycle of ፳፰/ 28 years; when the
day of the evangelist Rabua and Matthew coincide. It also involves the moon: (አቡሻ: ፬).
ማኅደፍ/ Mahdef [1]: (ብ መኃድፍ) An oar. A tool for
rowing, a means of propelling; a cloth for tying, a cloth for wiping. Instead
of ማኅደፍ (oar), it says ማኅፈድ (fan), which is incorrect. “ወእምዝ ይትመጦ ንፍቅ በማኅፈድ።” And then the half is
measured with a fan. “ጸሎት ላዕለ ማኅፈዳት” Prayer upon the fans:
(ሥር: ቅዳ).

ማኅፀብ/ Mahtzeb: (ባት፤ አው መኃፅብ። ማኅፀብት፤ ብ መኃፅብት) Washing place; A
place for washing, a place for cleaning; a tool for washing. “ነሥአ ማኅፀበ ወአስተዮን ለእሱ አባግዕ።” He took a washing
place and gave drink to his sheep. “ማኅፀበ አልባስ” A laundry: (ቀሌ። ስንክ: ሐም፲፰).
ማሕፀን/ Mahtzen: (ናት፤ መሓፅን) Womb; a womans belly,
and from it a separate place for the fetus and embryo; where a child lives from
conception until birth. Where it grows by sucking the umbilical cord. “ተዐቍረ ውስተ ማሕፀን።” He was conceived in
the womb. “ዘእንበለ ትፃእ እማሕፀን።” Unless she comes out
of the womb. “እንዘ ባ ውስተ ማሕፀና።” While she was in her
womb. “ተሀውከ ማሕፀና በእንተ ወልዳ” Her womb was troubled
because of her child: (ቅዳ። ኤር፩: ፭። ማቴ፩: ፲፰። ፫ነገ: ፫: ፳፮).
ማሕጸን/ Mah.tsen: To strengthen: to strengthen; he strengthened.
ማሕፀንት/ Mah.tzent: (ታት) Trust; A deposit; deposited
money; to be kept with utmost care like a fetus or embryo. (ተረት/ proverbs ) A trust is secure/ ጥብቅ ; heaven is far/ ሩቅ. “ታገብእ ምድር ማሕፀንታ።” The earth receives
its trust. “ዕቀብ ማሕፀንተከ።” Keep your trust. “ኀፍረት ሰሪቅ እምንዋየ ማሕፀንት” The shame of stealing
from the treasures of trust: (ሔኖ፶፩: ፩። ፩ጢሞ: ፮: ፳። ሢራ፵፩: ፲፱).
ማሕጼ/ Mah.tsie: Axe: An axe, a saw, a cutting and splitting tool; a tool
for striking and cutting: (መዝ: ፸፫: ፯። ማቴ፫: ፲። ፬ነገ: ፮: ፭: ፮).
ማኅፅ/ Mahtz: Swamp: A swamp, a marsh; a quagmire that causes to sink, that troubles.
ማኅፈሪት/ Mahferit: Mitre; A mitre; a cap like a crown; which former kings
and high priests, and today also bishops and archbishops, wear on their heads. “በከይዎ ሕዝብ ለጴጥሮስ ተቀጺሎሙ ማኅፈሪተ ልብሶ፤ ኦሮሞት ሶበ መተሩ ክብርተ ርእሶ” The people of
Caiaphas tore Peters mitre of clothing; when the Oromotians removed the glory
of his head: (ድጓ). Instead of ማኅፈሪት (mitre), it says ማዕፈርት (mitre) the meaning is the same; see ዐፈረን (dust).
ማኅፈር/ Mahfer [1]: (ርት ራን ራት) A trusted friend, a
companion; a relative, a neighbor, a family member; a priest, a doctor; one who
reveals and shows secrets and shame. “ዐርክ ወማኅፈር።” A friend and a
confidant. “ንግር ለማኅፈርከ ወለማኅፈረ ሕዝብከ።” Speak to your
confidant and to the confidant of your people. “አመ ኮነ አንበሳ ማኅፈሮ ለላሕም” When the lion became
the confidant of the cow: (ሢራ፵: ፳፫። ፵፪: ፲፩። ኩፋ: ፴፯). A relative by
marriage; the relatives of the father in law and mother in law; a marriage
relative. A male relative to a female and a female relative to a male is called
ማኅፈር.

hall, a palace; that has width, breadth, depth, and length. A fortress, a
stronghold; a citadel, a hill; a place where one is protected from the enemy, a
house for spies, scouts, and guards; built tall around a city, here and there
at each gate and corner, like a statue, a bell tower, a place for shouting
peace; from where one can see the enemy and friend coming from afar: (ዘፍ፲፩: ፬: ፭። ኩፋ: ፲). “ማኅፈድ ጽኑዕ ቅድመ ገጸ ጸላኢ።” A strong tower before
the face of the enemy. “ዲበ ኵሉ ማኅፈድ ጽኑዕ ነዋኅ።” Upon every high and
strong tower. “ማኅፈደ ኖሎት” The tower of servants:
(መዝ: ፰። ኢሳ፪: ፲፭። ሚክ፬: ፰). “ማኅፈደ ጢስ፤ ዐምድ።” A pillar of smoke; a
column. “ማኅፈደ ሥጋ፤ ሰውነት ግዘፍ” The tower of the
flesh; the body, the flesh: (መሳ፳: ፵። መጽ: ምስ). Instead of ማኅደፍ (oar), it says ማኅፈድ (tower), which is incorrect; see ኀደፈ (he left). “ጸሎት ላዕለ ማኅፈዳት” Prayer upon the
towers: (ቅዳ).

ማልሕ/ Malh: (ዐረ ማሊሕ) Salty; Salty, that
tastes of salt, salt water. “ባሕረ ማልሕ” The Salt Sea: (ኦቡሻ: ፶). It means the Sea of
Salt.
ማሞን/ Mammon: (ጽር ማሞና) Money; wealth,
possessions. An idol, a doll made of gold and silver: (ማቴ፮: ፳፬). And for those who
have possessions, it is called Mammon. It seems that the childrens words mamo
and mamit (terms of endearment) come from this name.
ማሰረ/ Masere: (ዕብ ማሳር) He betrothed; He gave
hand in hand; he caused to grasp; he handed over. The word ሙሽራ (groom/ bride) comes from this; it means a
young, tender shoot given by law; it can also refer to flax and cabbage.
ማሳኒ/ Masani: (ኒት ንያን ያት) Perishable; Perishable;
that which perishes, fleeting; corruptible, rotten. መብልዕ ማሳኒ።” Perishable food. “ጥሪት ማሳኒ” Perishable wealth: (ፍ: ነ: ፱። ስንክ: ጥቅ፴).
ማሴው/ Masiewu: (ጽር ሜሶ) Middle; Center; middle.
“አንቀጸ ማሴው” The middle gate: (ኤር፴፱: ፫). See መስጴጦምያ/ Mesopotamia; it is
the same as this.

ማስኖ ኖት/ Masno not: (ማሰነ ይማስን ይማስን። መንሰወ፤ ነሰወ። ዕብ ናሻም፤ ሕቅ አለ) To decay; to weaken,
to toil (ዐማርኛ). To perish, to die, to spoil; to break
down, to rot. “ማሕፀንት ዘማሰነት ማስኖ ፍጥረታዌ።” A womb that has
decayed, a natural decay. “ዘማሰነ ልቡ።” He who corrupted his
heart. “ወርቅ ዘይማስን።” Gold that decays. “ለብሰ ሥጋ ዘይማስን ወረሰዮ ዘኢይማስን።” He put on a body that
decays and made it incorruptible. “ይማስን ቤቶሙ ለዕቡያን” The houses of the
proud will decay: (ፍ: ነ: ፳፱: ፫። ፴፪። ፩ጴጥ: ፩: ፯። ቅዳ። ሢራ፳፩: ፬) ማስያስ: (ዕብ ማሽያሕ). Messiah, the
anointed one; the anointed. “ማስያስ ዘይሰመይ ክርስቶስ።” Messiah, who is
called Christ. “ማስያስ ናይናን” The Messiah of Nain: (ስንክ: ጥር፮። ግብ: ሕማ).
ማረየ/ Mareye: (ይማሪ፤ ማርዮ) He divined, he caused
to divine; he practiced divination, he diminished the month; by letters,
numbers, by omission. But the book, instead of ማረየ (he divined), says ተመርየ (he was divined), ተማረየ (he divined himself), ተማረተ (he practiced divination), all of which are
mistakes; they dont make sense. “ለተመርዮ ወለተሰግሎ።” For divination and
for sorcery “ዘያሰግል ወዘይትሜረይ።” He who practices
sorcery and he who divines. . “ዘይትማረይ ወዘያበውኦሙ ውስተ ቤቱ ለማርያን።” He who divines and
brings them into the house of Maryam. “ኵሉ ተማርዮ እምኀይለ አጋንንት ወኵሉ ተነብዮ እምኀይለ መንፈስ ቅዱስ።” All who divined by
the power of demons and all who prophesied by the power of the Holy Spirit. “ብእሲት ዘትትማረት አው ለካልእታ ትብል ትትማረት በእንተ ፍቅረ ምታ፤ አው በእንተ ፍቅረ ካልእ” A woman who divines
or tells another to divine because of the love of her husband; or because of
the love of another: (ኩፋ: ፲፩። ቀሌ። ፍ: ነ: ፲፩። መጽ: ምስ። ሲኖዶ).
ማሪት/ Marit: Diviner: A diviner; he divined.
ማራ/ Mara [1]: The name of the Cherubim; this is the same; Lord; Lord of
Lords. Its mystery sees the face of man; for that is its proper form. “በራ ማራ” Son of Mara: (መዋሥ).
[2]: (ዕብ ማራህ፤ ማራታ) The name of a place
where there is bitter water. “ኢረከቡ ማየ ከመ ይስተዩ በማራ።” They did not find
water to drink in Marah. “ወግዕዙ እምነ ማራ” And they moved from
Marah: (ዘፀ፲፭: ፳፫። ዘኍ፴፫: ፱). Again, instead of ማራ (Marah), it says ምረት (bitterness), which is a mistake.
ማራን ማራና/ Maran Marana: Marana; our Lord, our
Master. But when they interpret bemiran zeybe (by our Lord), it makes it mean
have mercy on me, our teacher, who binds and cuts me off, who judges all; it
makes one fearless of man, fearless of angels, a farmer o`f judgment: (ማቴ፲፫: ፬: ፴፪ –፵፪)
ማራን አታ/ Maranatha: (እግዚእ መጽአ) The reply of the New
Testament: (፩ቆሮ: ፲፮: ፳፪). Concerning the
coming of our Lord, the reply of Cyril, like the Greek and Arabic New
Testament, instead of saying Maranatha, makes it one word, Maranata. But even
the modernists, including scholars, thinking it is Cyrils word, attribute it to
him and interpret it; and they call its meaning its lampstand, its light. And
the poets urge it saying merene abera (our light has shone) all of this is a
mistake; see the Amharic New Testament and menare (to shine) he lived in Nob: (ዕብ፱: ፪).
ማር ማሪ/ Mar Mari: (ሱር) Lord; Master. It is said for both
God and man; but its proper name is of God. Say Mar Ephrem the Syrian, Mari
Jacob of Serug; it is like saying Yeneta (my lord) soandso; Getaye
(my master) soandso: (ሃይ: አበ). Martha also means the same, Egziit
(lady), Emebet (mistress).
ማርቲሪ/ Martyr: (ጽር። ዕብ ሄዒድ። ዐረ ሸሂደ) He heard, he
testified; he became a martyr: (ዮሐ፩: ፲፭).
ማርዪ ማሪ ማሬ/ Maryie Mari Marie: (ዪት ሪት፤ ርያን ያት፤ ረይት) Diviner; One who
divines, one who practices divination; a diviner, a sorcerer; a false prophet,
a priest of idols. “ጲጥፋራ ማሪ ዘሀገረ ሔልዩ።” Potiphar, the diviner
of the land of Heliopolis. “ዮቶር ማሬ ምድያም።” Jethro, the diviner
of Midian. “ወአምጽኡ ማሬ ዘድዮስ: And bring the diviner
of Dios: (ዘፍ፵፩: ፵፭። ዘፀ፪: ፲፮። ግብ፲፬: ፲፫). “እመ ቦ ዘሐተተ ማሪተ።” If anyone asks a
diviner. “ማርያን ወሰብአ ሰገል።” Diviners and
magicians. “ውእቱ ይገብር ግብረ ሥራይ ወዘማርያት” He performs the work
of sorcery and witchcraft: (ቀሌ። ዳን፮: ፭። ፪ዜና: ፴፫: ፮). Instead of ማረይት (diviners), it says ማሪታት (female diviners), which doesnt make sense; because
ማረይት as an adjective is plural and refers to many
men and women together; but ማሪታት is only for women. “ሐሳውያን ማሪታት” False female diviners:
(ቄር: ገ፩).
ማርያም/ Maryam [1]: Bitterness of days; bitter.
[2]: (ዕብ ሚርያም) A prophetess, the
sister of Moses and Aaron: (ዘፀ፲፭ ፡ ፳). The word has two
partsMar Mir one part; meaning bitter. And Yom Elet Zemen Mewael; which means
day, time, days; in combination, Mirirte Yom or Marare Mewael, whose days are
bitter. Her time, the time of her birth, was called bitter because the evil
Pharaoh gave bitter counsel against Israel, decreeing that every male child
should die and every female child should live; and Israel was very sad and wept
during those months of sorrow and suffering. Therefore, her father and mother
gave her such a name, saying, In her days, the Egyptians made the life of
Israel bitter: (ዘፀ፩ ፡ ፰ –፲፮). Secondly; it says,
And a great star fell from heaven, and the name of the star is called Wormwood:
(ራእ፰ ፡ ፲ ፡ ፲፩). Mar Mir, a star called reto hamoto (wormwood) that is,
the sea; that is, as it says, the Red Sea: (ዕብራ). In combination, Star of the Sea; it
means the guide for those in the sea. And since the sea is an example of time,
and the taste of the name of the sea and the star is bitterness, its mystery is
understood from the first meaning; just as the title of Merha Ewur (Guide of
the Blind) says the number of time instead of the thought of the sea, it says
Bahire Hasab (Sea of Thought). And even the blessing for the new year, may you
cross from year to year, likens time to the sea and a river; for the similarity
is common: (ሕዝ፳፯ ፡ ፪ –፭). For the children of Israel who fall under Pharaohs
decree, from the sea, from the depths; saying, Behold, a son will be born to us;
a redeemer and savior who will bring us out of Egypt, and who shines like a
star with her dry prophecy, and later, in the Red Sea, takes her tambourine and
sings, Praise Him, leading as a prophetess, a hymnist, a woman of high words,
an image of the Virgin; therefore, this noble name, Star of the Sea, was given
to her beforehand; and her prophecy is found in the Book of Jubilees. “ኖትያዊ ይኔጽር ኀበ ከዋክብት፡” The navigator looks
to the stars (እለ ሰሜን) “አመ የሐውር ውስተ ባሕር ዘከመ ይመርሓ ወያከይዳ ለሐመሩ እስከ ይበጽሕ ኀበ መርሶ ፡” when he travels in the sea, so that it may guide and
steer his ship until it reaches its destination: (ማር ፡ ይሥ፳፰). It is wrong to say
Mariham instead of Miryam in Hebrew for Maryam: ፡ (አርጋ። ታምረ ፡ ማር). Many women have been called by this name; this is the
meaning of the Old Testament. But for the New Testament, the child of the star
is a star, so to speak of her star is to speak of His star: (ዘኍ፳፬ ፡ ፲፯። ፪ጴጥ ፡ ፩ ፡ ፲፱). Just as the Old
Testament Maryam is the beginning of the Old Testament, the New Testament
Maryam is the beginning of the New Testament; for the oppression and suffering
and all the wonderful works that happened in the time of the first Maryam were
written down as a foreshadowing for what would happen later to the Virgin Mary:
(ዕብ፲ ፡ ፩). So that the Maryams
may be compared, Pharaoh and Herod, Moses and Christ, Let us praise Him and Let
us exalt Him are compared: (ዘፀ፲፭ ፡ ፩ ፡ ፳፩። ሉቃ፩ ፡ ፴፮ –፵፭). Just as the first Maryam was called the sister of Moses
by physical birth, the New Testament Maryam is called the sister of her Son,
the Word incarnate, by spiritual birth. For coordination is her custom; just as
she coordinated virginity with childbirth, she also coordinated sisterhood with
motherhood; like the Mount of Olives on the Sabbath. For this is in His
firstborn state, in the birth of His deeds, where it is said, Today I have
begotten You; see the meaning of Bekur. And the scholar of Gondar, quoting the
daughters of Lot from the Old Testament, says this in his Mibezhu poem: (ዘፀ፲፱ ፡ ፴፮ –፴፰). “በዘርዐ አቡሆን ኮና አኃተ ውሉዶን አኃት አመ ወርኀ ሕጸጽ ወንትጋ፤ ለከሰ አምላክ ክርስቶስ ቀዳሜ ጸጋ ወለተ ሐና ጠባብ በመንፈስ ቅዱስ አኅትከ እንዘ እምከ በሥጋ።” In the seed of their
father they became sisters to their children in the month of betrothal and
marriage; for Christ the first grace, the narrow daughter of Hannah, your
sister in the Holy Spirit while your mother in the flesh.
ማቂፊም/ Maqifim: (ዕብራ) Those who embrace,
those who surround; surroundings. “ዘሩ ሐቀረ ነው” Its seed is carved: (፫ነገ: ፯: ፳፬).
ማኒ/ Mani [1]: (ጽር። ሱር ምኔእ ምናህ። ዕብ ማናህ) He measured, he
counted, he finished: (ዳን፭: ፳፮). But the poets call
it a measuring portion. “ዐይንየሂ ሶበ ተሰፍረ በጽልመተ ሌሊት ማኒ እስከ ኤዶምያስ ሀገርየ መኑ ይመርሐኒ” When my eye was
counted in the darkness of night, who will lead me from Mani to the land of
Edom: (የውር: ቅኔ).
[2]: A mans name; the
first was a Jew in the Old Testament period, a complete heretic; the father of
the Freemasons, who said there is no creator or sustainer. “እልፍ ዐላውያን፤ ማኒሰ ኮነ የዐብዮሙ” Thousands of Gentiles;
and Mani became their leader: (ቅኔ). The second arose
in the New Testament period; who said the Word became flesh is a magic trick, a
shadow: (ቄር እስት).
ማንቍርት/ Manqurt: Adams apple: the protruding part where the neck and chin
meet: (ዐማርኛ).
ማንጦን/ Manton: (ጽር ፕኔፍማቶን) A mistaken prefix; it
means spirit. “አግያስ ማንጦን” Hagios Manton (አጊዮስ ፕኔፍማቶስ: Holy Spirit: (ቅዳ).
ማዔጌላህ/ Maegelah: (ዕብ ማዕኦሮሞህ፤ ማዕጋል) A chariot road, an
army camp; a round area, an enclosure. “ወበጽሐ ውስተ ማዔጌላህ” And he came to
Maegelah: (፩ነገ: ፲፯: ፳).
ማዕለል/ Maeelel: Ornament: A covering, an adornment; paint; of many kinds.
“ኢትሠአን አሣእነ ዕሉለ በማዕለል፤ ወኢሕልቀተ ወርቅ ውስተ አጻብዒከ” You shall not put on
dyed garments with ornament; nor gold rings on your fingers: (ፍ: ነ: ፲፩).
ማዕለልት/ Maeelelt: A vow; money; that which is given by swearing,
promising, saying let it be cursed upon me. “ወሰመዩ ስም ለውእቱ መካን ማዕለልት” And they called the
name of that place Malelt: (ዘኍ፳፩: ፫).
ማዕሌት/ Maeeliet [1]:
Crime,
rebellion; he transgressed.
[2]: Crime; injustice, sin;
denial, refusal; sin; evil. “ማዕሌተ ሀገር።” The transgression of
the land. “በማዕሌቶሙ ዘዐለዉከ።” Because of their
transgressions with which they transgressed against you. “መልአከ ማዕሌት።” The angel of
transgression. “ከመ ይኅበር ማዕሌቶሙ።” So that their
transgression may be revealed. “ማዕሌተ ይገብር ላዕሌከ ዓምጽ” He commits
transgression, violence against you: (ሢራ፳፮: ፭። ዳን፱: ፯። ፫ነገ: ፲፩: ፲፬። ሆሴ፯: ፪። ዓሞ፯: ፲፩).
ማእምር/ Maeemr: (ርት ራን ራት) Understanding; This
is the same. “ማእምር ወዐውቅ።” Understanding and
knowledge. “ማእምረ ኅቡኣት።” Understanding of
secrets. “ማእምራን ለገቢረ ሠናይ።” Understanding for
doing good. “ማእምራነ ቃል” Understandings of the
word: (መዝ: ፶፬። አርጋ። መክ፬: ፲፯። ሢራ፲፰: ፳፱).
ማዕምቅ/ Maeeq: Deep place: Deep abyss; deep.
: Deep places; (ቃት) A deep place; a pit; an abyss; a basement; a
cliff; a cave, a valley; ravines; a place of darkness, cold, and heat. “ማዕምቀ ባሕር።” The depths of the
sea. “ማዕምቅቲሃ ለምድር።” The depths of the
earth. “ወአውደቆ ውስተ ማዕምቅ።” And he cast him into
the deep. “ኵሉ ማዕምቅ ይምላእ” Let every deep place
be filled: (መዝ: ፷፰። ኩፋ: ፭። ራእ፳: ፫። ኢሳ፵: ፬። ባሮ፭: ፯).
ማእሰረ ልሳን/ Maeser lsan: Bond of the tongue: Dumbness;
silence: (ማር: ፯: ፴፭).
ማእሰረ ሰላም/ Maesere selam: Bond of peace: Love; unity:
(ኤፌ፬: ፫).
ማእሰረ ተዋስቦ/ Maesere tewasbo: Bond of marriage: The
order of the household; the covenant of marriage: (ፍ: ነ: ፳፬: ፬). It is interpreted
by coordinating everything according to its manner and order.
ማእሰረ ዐመፃ/ Maesere aametza: Bond of iniquity: Sin;
apostasy: (ቅዳ).
ማእሰረ/ Maesere gzet: Bond of circumcision: The word of circumcision; it means
cursed: (አፈ: ተ፬).
ማእሰር/ Maeser: (ራት፤ መኣስር። ማእሰርት፤ መኣስርት፤ ታት) Bond; A binding; a
fetter; a place of imprisonment; a tool. “ታወፅኦሙ ለሙቁሓን እማእሰር።” You shall bring out
the prisoners from the dungeon. “ማእሰርተ ኀጺን።” Iron bonds. “መኣስርቲሃኒ ሰርጐ ያክንት” Her bonds are a
healing remedy: (ኢሳ፵፪: ፯። ሔኖ፷፩: ፫። ሢራ፮: ፴).
: A clasp, a fastening; of brass and of a wall. “ወማእሰሩ በዕፀ ብሔር” And its fastening was
of native wood: (፩ዕዝ: ፮: ፳፬).
ማዕሰበ/ Maeesebe: (ዐሰበ) She was widowed; She
became widowed; she was deserted; she lived alone; her husband died; or she
left in disgrace. “ሐና ወለተ ፋኑኤል ማዕሰበት ሰማንያ ወአርባዕተ ክራምተ” Hannah, the daughter
of Phanuel, was a widow for eightyfour years: (ስንክ: የካ፰። ኢሳ፶፬: ፬). Instead of ማዕሰበ (she was widowed), it says ተማዕሰበ (she became widowed), which is the same
meaning. “እንዘ ትትማዐሰቢ” While you are being
widowed: (ኩፋ: ፵፩).
ማእስ/ Maes: (ብ አምእስት) Skin; skin, hide; nail,
leather. “ማእሰ በግዕ ሕሱይ።” The skin of a healthy
sheep. “ማእሰ ዘባኑ።” The skin of its back.
“ኢይቅንቱ ማእሰ” They shall not gird
themselves with skin: (ዘፀ፳፭: ፭። ኢዮ፵: ፳፭። ሕዝ፵፬: ፲፰). “ትመሥጥዎሙ አምእስቲሆሙ እምላዕሌሆሙ።” You strip their skins
from them. “በልዑ አምእስተ ሠረገላቲሆሙ ወማእሰ ቀቀበ አስይፍቲሆሙ” They ate the skins of
their chariots and the skin of the hilts of their swords: (ሚክ፫: ፪። ዮሴፍ። ዘፍ፳፯: ፲፮).
ማዕስ/ Maees [1]: (ብ አምእስት) skin, hide; nail,
leather. “ማእሰ በግዕ ሕሱይ።” The skin of a healthy
sheep. “ማእሰ ዘባኑ።” The skin of its back.
“ኢይቅንቱ ማእሰ” They shall not gird

ማዕረብት/ Maeerebt: (ዕብ ማዐራብ) Merchandise; A place
of trade; a market; a storehouse. Merchandise; goods. Instead of saying ነጋድያን ሠየጥ (merchants who
trade), it says ማዕረብት (merchandise), which
is incorrect. “ተርሴስ እሙንቱ ማዕረብትኪ።” Tarshish was your
merchandise. “አራም ማዕረብትኪ” Aram was your
merchandise: (ሕዝ፳፯: ፲፪ና: ፲፮).
ማዕርግ መዓርግ/ Maeerg: (ጋት) MeaargAscent; A place
for ascending; an exit; a confirmation; a ladder; a step; a rank; that which
has divisions and sequences like fingers; many within; its structure is linear;
interconnected; see ደረጀ (rank). “መዓርግ ዘያወርድ እምሀገረ ዳዊት።” An ascent of plants
in the earth. “መዓርግ ዘያወርድ እምሀገረ ዳዊት።” The ascent that
descends from the city of David. “መዓርግ ምሥዋዕ።” The ascent of the
altar. “ዐሠርቱ መዓርጋት” The ten ascents: (ኩፋ: ፳፯። ነሐ፫: ፲፭። ሢራ፶: ፲፩። ፬ነገ: ፳: ፱ –፲፩). It is also said for
the path of the sun and the moon. Three hundred and sixty ascents; thirty equal
ascents for one gate: (አቡሻ: ፬). Instead of መድረክ (stage), it says ማዕርግ (ascent), which is incorrect. “ማዕርገ ዳጎን” The ascent of Dagon: (፩ነገ: ፭: ፭).
: appointment, honor, authority; from a quartermaster to a king; from a
reader to a patriarch. “ወተጋብኡ ለህርቃኖስ መዓርገ መንግሥት ወመዓርገ ክህነት።” And they gathered for
Hyrcanus the rank of kingship and the rank of priesthood. “ይትመተር እማዕርጊሁ።” He will be removed
from his rank. “አቡሊናርዮስ ተአመነ ከመ መንፈስ ቅዱስ የሐጽጽ እምአብ ወወልድ በማዕርገ አምላክና” Apollinaris believed
that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son in the rank of

: A section, a part, a turn, a row. “ወካዕበ ሠርዐ ፍድፋዴ ባሕታውያን ውስተ ሠለስቱ መዓርጋት።” And again, he
established the order of hermits in three ranks. “ስፉይ በሠላስ መዓርገ ስፍየት” Spread in the three
ranks of spreading: (ፊልክ: ፬። ፈ: መ: ፴፩: ፭).
ማዕቀቢ/ Maeeqebi: Guardian: A keeper; one who lives by trust. “ካዕበተ ይፈዲ ለማዕቀቢሁ” He shall pay back
double to his guardian: (ዘፀ፳፪: ፱).
ማዕቀብ/ Maeeqeb: (ቅብ) Guard; This is the
same as ዐቃቢ (keeper) a watchman; a soldier; a
shepherd; a guard. “ማረፊያ መጠበቂያ ቦታ።” A resting place, a
place of waiting. “እቀውም ውስተ ማዕቀብየ” I will stand at my
guard post: (ዕን፪: ፩).
ማዕቀፍ/ Maeeqef: (ቅፍ፤ ቅፍት) Stumbling block; An
obstacle; a hindrance; a trap. In plural it is called መዓቅፍ. “ፍኖት መጽያሕት ዘእንበለ ማዕቀፍ።” The path of the
righteous is without stumbling block. “እስመ ማዕቀፍየ ሊተ።” For you are a
stumbling block to me. “ወእማዕቀፎሙ።” And from their
stumbling blocks. “ያመጽኡ ማዕቅፍተ” They bring stumbling
blocks: (ቅዳ: ኤጲ። ማቴ፲፮: ፳፫። መዝ: ፻፵። ኢሳ፳፱: ፳፩).
ማዕቅድ/ Maeeqb: Framework: A plan, a design, a rainbow; a dome; a roof; a vault; a
structure. In plural it is called መዓቅድ. “አልቦ ጠፈር ለመዓቅዶን፤ ወአልቦ ሣዕር ለመክደኖን፤ ኢይፈቅድ አሕባለ ለመዓቅዶን” There is no space for
its framework; and no grass for its covering; it does not need ropes for its
framework: (ገድ: ላሊ).
ማዕበል/ Maeebel [1]: a flash; it flashed.
[2]: (ልት። ዐረ ሚዕበለት) An iron tool; a
plow, a sickle; an arrow, a spear; a sword, a dagger; and the like. Just as the
Philistines/ ይፋቶች called their sword
Abele. “ማዕበሉ።” Its wave. “ማዕበለ ኀጺን ማዕበል በሊኅ ልሳኖሙ።” The wave of iron, the
sharp wave of their tongues. “ትወፅእ ማዕበልት ከመ መብረቅ” Waves come out like
lightning: (፩ነገ: ፲፫: ፳፩። ፫ነገ: ፮: ፲፩። ኤር፱: ፰። ዘካ፱: ፲፪። ዕን፫: ፲፩). See the root of ብዕል (pen), ምብዓል (to sprout).
[3]: (ላት) a commotion of water;
a wave; a horseman; a flood; that which takes away and drowns; that which

ማዕተበ ረስን/ Maeetebe resn: Mark of the head: A
crossshaped mark of fire; a scar; marks. A red cross mark; which is woven,
sewn, and embroidered on clothing with a red thread: (ሥር ጳኵ).
: A model; an example; strength. “ኀደገ ለነ ማዕተቦ” He left us his
example: (ድጓ። ፩ጴጥ: ፪: ፳፩).
ማዕተብ/ Maeeteb [1]: A sign; he marked.
[2]: (ዕብ ሖታም) A signet ring; whose
bezel is a seal. See ኅቲም (seal). “ሕልቀተ ማዕተብ።” A ring of a signet. “ከመ ማዕተብ” Like a signet ring: (ሢራ፵፱: ፲፩። ሐጌ፪: ፳፪። ኤር፳፪: ፳፬).
: The sign of the cross. “ዐጽፍ ጸሊም ዘምሉእ ማዕተበ።” A black garment full
of signs. “ረሰየ ዐውደ በኣቱ ማዕተበ መስቀል ዐውዶ” He made the
circumference of his cave the circumference of the sign of the cross: (ገድ: ዳን። ፊልክ: ፳፮).
: a mark; a sign; a seal. “ዕልባት። ማዕተበ ሐሪር ዘሀሎ በክሣዱ።” A silken mark that

ማእነም/ Maeenem: (ማት) Tool; A tool; an
instrument; the equipment of a tailor, an embroiderer, a weaver. “ግብረ ማእነም።” The work of a tool. “ይትአነም በማእነም።” He shall weave with a
tool. “ኬነውት ዘማእነም” The tools of weaving:

ማዕነቅ/ Maeeneq [1]:

a type of pigeonlike bird; whose neck looks like it has silk tied around it: (ዘፍ፲፲፭: ፱። ማሕ፩: ፲).
ማእነፍ/ Maeenef: (ብ መኣንፍት) Pan; A threelegged
pan; a pan of iron and bronze; a seal for baking bread, the bread of the
Presence. They put the dough or batter in it, bring it in and out of the oven; and
the bread comes out looking like it, having taken its shape; what makes the pan
ማእነፍ is the smell of the bread and the
three legs. “ወትገብር መኣንፍቲሃ” And you shall make
its pans: (ዘፀ፳፭: ፳፱). Again, instead of
saying መኣንፍት (pans), it says መኣፍንት (baking place) see አፈየ (oven).
ማዕነፍ/ Maeenef: Pan: A threelegged pan; he smelled.
ማእን/ Maen: Width: Breadth; width. But the Old Testament scholars call it a
defensive wall for fighting and shooting. “ወገብረ ቆመ አረፍቱ ሰብዓ በእመት፤ ወማእኖ ዘኀምሳ በእመት” And he made its
height seventy cubits; and its width fifty cubits: (ዮዲ፩: ፪).
ማዕኖ/ Maeeno: Mud plaster; mud.
ማእከለ/ Maekel: (ደቂቅ አገባብ) In the middle; towards
the middle; inside, within. “ቁም ማእከለ።” Stand in the middle. “ባእ ማእከለ።” Enter into the
middle. “ሐነጽኩ ማኅፈደ ማእከሎ” I built its middle
tower: (ሉቃ፮: ፰። ሕዝ፲: ፪። ኢሳ፭: ፪).
ማእከላዊ/ Middle [1]: Middle; that which has right and left, or first and last,
upper and lower. “ወልዱ ማእከላዊ።” His middle son. “ፍኖት ማእከላይ።” The middle path. “ማኅደር ማእከላይ።” The middle dwelling. “አበው ማእከላውያን።” The middle fathers. “አበው ማእከላውያን። ይቤለከ ከመ ትፀመድ ወትትጋደል በገድል ማእከላይ፤ ከመ ኢይድክም ሥጋከ።” He said to you that
you should fast and fight with a middle fast; so that your body may not weaken.
“እስመ ማእከላይ አንተ” For you are in the

vessel for water; all round things. It shows even a can, a cup, a goblet, a

the same as this. “ዘገብረ ማዕከከ ብርት፤ ወገብሮ ለውእቱ ማዕከክ ከመ ይትኀፀቡ ውስቴቱ።” He made a bronze pot;

and confession. “ሀቦ እግዚኦ ማእኰተ መንፈስ ቅዱስ በዕበየ ሣህልከ ወምሕረትከ” Grant, O Lord, the
grace of the Holy Spirit in the abundance of Your grace and mercy: (ግንዘ).
[2]: A gift; a bribe; a blessing;
a present for entreaty; that which is given and received with thanks. “ነገሥታት ወመኳንንት እለ ይበልዑ ማእኰት።” Kings and nobles who
eat gifts. “ወመኳንንቲሆሙ በላዕያነ ማእኰት” And their nobles are
eaters of gifts: (ቀሌ። መቃ: ገ፱).
[3]: Intercession, hope,
supplication. Oath, covenant, promise. “ወብየ ማእኰት እምኀበ ዘፈጠረኒ ከመ እለ አስሐትክዎሙ ይትወደዩ ምስሌየ ውስተ እሳት።” And I asked a favor

me in the fire. “ወወሀቦ ማእኰተ ለቅዱስ ሚካኤል ለዘገብረ ተዝካሮ” And he gave a favor

ማዕው ማዑት/ Maeewu Maout: (ብ አማዑት። ዕብ ሜዒም፤ ሜዖት። ሱር ምዓያ። ዐረ መዕይ፤ ብ አምዓእ) Bowels; Intestines; belly,
the contents of the belly, the organ of digestion; the inner parts that are
connected and intertwined with the intestines. Since ማዕው and ማዑት are not common, only
አማዑት is said, in plural form but also for
singular. Until your bowels come out. It went like water into his bowels. “ሥብሕ ዘውስተ አማዑቱ።” The fat that is
inside his bowels. “ሕማመ አማዑት ።” The pain of the
bowels. “እምብካዮሙ ይትመሰዉ አማዑቲከ” Your bowels will be
moved by their weeping: (፪ዜና: ፳፩: ፲፭። መዝ: ፻፰። ዘሌ፬: ፰። ግብ፳፰: ፰። ሢራ፴: ፯). When it is very

ማዕዘር/ Maeezer: Light; the foot of the ray; its horn; its spear; that with which one

ማእዜ/ Meezie: (ዕብ ማታይ። ሱር ኤምታይ። ዐረ መተ) When; A preposition
of time and question; when, at what time, at what hour. They agree with ለ, እም, and እስከ. “ኈለቈኑ አውራኂሁ ማእዜ ይትወለድ።” They counted his
months, when he would be born. “ማአዜ እበጽሕ።” When shall I arrive. “ለአይ ወለማእዜ መዋዕል።” For what and for how

corner. “አርባዕቱ መኣዝነ ዓለም።” The four corners of
the world. “መኣዝኒሃ ለምድር።” The corners of the

against Israel. “ወይሠገር በማዕገትየ” And he will pass

: A fortified place; a fortress; a stronghold; a city; an enclosure; a
protected place; a defined area. “ይትከወሱ በውስተ ማዕገቶሙ።” They will be trampled
in their fortified places. “ወእማዕገት ከሃክ ውእቱ መለኮት” And from the
fortified place of Kahak is the Godhead: (ሚክ፯: ፲፯። ቄር).
ማዕጠንት/ Maeet.ent: (ታት) Censer; A place for
burning incense; a thurible; a censer. “ማዕጠንተ ወርቅ።” A golden censer. “ወርቅ። ወማዕጠንታተሂ” And censers: (ራእ፰: ፫። ዘኍ፬: ፲፬).
ማዕጸድ/ Maeetsed: (ዕብ ማዓጻድ፤ ገዠሞ፤ መጥረቢያ፤ መላጊያ) A sickle; a reaping
hook; a cutter. “ማዕጸድ በሊኅ ውስተ እዴሁ” A sharp sickle in his
hand: (ራእ፲፬: ፲፬ –፲፱).
ማዕጸፍ/ Maeetaef: (ፍት) Fold; This is the
same; a fold. In plural it is called መዓጽፍት: (መጽ: ምስ).
ማዕጾ/ Maeetso: A door; a gate. “ላንቃ። ከመ ማዕጾ እንተ ተዐውድ።” Like a door that
turns on its hinges. “ድርኵኵተ ማዕጾ።” The hinges of the
door. “ወማዕጾ ዘዐቅም” And a strong door: (ምሳ፳፮: ፲፬። ዘካ፲፪: ፪። መዝ: ፻፵).
: A fence, a wall, a hedge. “ሰበረ ማዕጾ ወጐየ።” He broke down the
fence and fled. “ንግበር ላቲ ማዕጾ ዘቄድሮስ” Let us make for her a

ማዕፈርት/ Maeefert: (ሱር ማዕፍራእ፤ ኩፋር። ዕብ ሚጽኔፌት) A turban; A head
covering; a covering; a cap; a kufeta; a wrapping. See ማኅፈሪት (covering). “ትወዲ ዲቤሆሙ ማዕፈርቶሙ” You shall put their
turbans on them: (ዘፀ፳፱: ፱).
ማዖን/ Maon: (ዕብራ) A dwelling; A house,
a place; a corner of the house, left and right; side, corner, nearby, assembly.
ማኹን/ Makun: (ቅብጥ) Makun; The name of a
month; December; May. See Kiyahk and Bashans; these two months have two names
each: (አቡሻ: ፰).
ማውታ/ Mawuta: A carcass; a dead animal, a carcass of cattle that died from sickness
or falling into a pit without being slaughtered. “ማውታ ወደም ወብትክ።” A carcass, blood, and
a wound. “ዘረኵሰ በበሊዐ ማውታ።” He who is defiled by
eating a carcass. “ጽዩእ ሥጋ ማውታ” The unclean flesh of
a carcass: (ቀሌ። ፈ: መ: ፮: ፬። ዲድ: ፮). It can also refer
to a human corpse. The offspring of death. Instead of በደክታም (with weakness), it says ዕጓለ ማውታ (offspring of
death), which is a word of interpretation. “አብ ለዕጓለ ማውታ።” Father of the
offspring of death. “ኀደገኒ አቡየ ዕጓለ ማውታ።” My father left me the
offspring of death. “ኢየኀድገክሙ ዕጓለ ማውታ ትኩኑ” I will not leave you
to become the offspring of death: (መዝ: ፷፯። ጦቢ፩: ፰። ዮሐ፲፬: ፲፰). ማውቻ (mawcha) means weak, lean, powerless: (ዐማርኛ).
ማውትና/ Mawutna: Mortality, carcassness; weakness. “በእንተ ዕጓለ ማውትናሆሙ ወድክትምናሆሙ” Because of their
offspring of mortality and their weakness: (ዮሴፍ).
ማዙሮት/ Mazzaroth: (ጽር። ዕብ ማዛሎት) Mazzaroth; The twelve
signs of the zodiac; stars that govern the months; which ancient people used to
worship every month, and which today sorcerers still assign to each person; see
ነዘለን: (፬ነገ: ፳፫: ፭).
ማዝግና ባዝግና/ Mazgna bazgna: (ናት) A necklace; a bead
of gold or silver; a diadem, a pearl, a jewel; that which is strung; a neck and
chest ornament that is tied around the neck with a thread; a reward for women
and men. See ቃማ (kama) it is the
same as this. “ትረስዕኑ መርዓት ሰርጓ ወድንግል ባዝግናሃ።” Will a bride forget
her ornaments, or a virgin her necklace. “ወአዕነቆ ባዝግና ወርቅ ውስተ ከሣዱ።” And he put a golden
necklace around his neck. “ባዝንግናት ዘውስተ ክሣደ አግማል” The necklaces that
were on the necks of the camels: (ኤር፪ ፴፪። ፵፩: ፵፪። መሳ፰: ፳፩: ፳፮). Whoever inherited መን በ (men be) wrote ዝግና (zigina) instead of ማዝግና (mazgina) just as ዘና ሰ (zena se) was
inherited, so is this.
ማያዊ/ Mayawi: (ዊት ውያን ያት) Watery, aquatic, of
water. “ጠባይዕ ማያዊ፤ ነፋሳዊ መሬታዊ እሳታዊ” Watery nature; airy,
earthly, fiery: (ፈላስ: ገ፲፮).
ማይ/ May: (ብ ማያት። ዕብ ማይም። ሱር ማያእ። ዐረ ማእ) water, a known
liquid that springs and comes out from the belly of the earth; found in the sea
and on land, in wells and abysses, in rivers and springs, everywhere; which by
its nature and properties has no specific color, taste, or smell, is clear,
pure, cold, one of the four elements; which agrees with earth in its moisture,
with fire in its clearness, and with wind in its coldness; a natural drink that
gives freshness to all who drink it, cools, and satisfies; rain, dew. Its name
is mehwu; see ምህወ. “ማይ ብዙኅ።” Much water. “አንቅዕተ ማያቲሆሙ።” The springs of their
waters. “ማያተ አፍላግ።” The waters of rivers.
“ኢትስተይ ማየ ዕራቆ።” Do not drink the
water of your urine. “ስቁለ አመ ርእዩከ አርዳኢከ ኮኑ መዐዛ ማይ” When your disciples
saw you hanging, they became the scent of water: (ኢሳ፲፩: ፱። ዮዲ፯: ፲፪። ቅዳ። ፩ጢሞ: ፭: ፳፫። ቅኔ). Water can be
bitter, sweet, or warm; its bitterness, sweetness, and warmth are from the
earth, not from its nature. Even the fluid that comes out from the physical
body, like tears, blood, semen, and everything else, is called water; it means
liquid. “ይውሕዝ አንብዕ ከመ ማይ።” Let tears flow like
water. “ከዐዉ ደሞሙ ከመ ማይ።” Their blood flowed
like water. “ወእንዘ ማይ ውእቱ ታረግዖ በጥበብከ” And while it is
water, You control it with Your wisdom: (ቅዳ: ያዕ። መዝ: ፸፰። ቅዳ: አት). The name of the
letter መ; the 13th of the alphabet.
ማዳይ/ Maday: Midian; the name of a tribe: (ዘፍ፲: ፪። ፳፭: ፪).
ማድዮ/ Madyo: (ዕብ ማድ፤ ማድያው። ጽር ማንዲያስ) An outer garment. A
garment of honor; worn by kings, nobles, and their children. “ዮና ው ዝርዝሮች ናቸው፤ ልብሰ ዕበዩ እንደ ማለት።” These are details of
Jonah; like saying a garment of greatness. “ወሀቦ ዐጽፈ ዘላዕሌሁ ወማድዮሂ” And he gave his outer
garment and also his madyo: (፩ነገ: ፲፰: ፭). But the Old
Testament scholars call it ጩፋ (chufa a type of
ornament). Secondly, according to the Greek word, instead of ማድዮ (madyo), it says መንዲያ (mendiya) and this they interpret as a
military garment like the suns rays, that blinds the eye.
ማድጋ/ Madga: Jar, a water skin; he prepared.
ማጎግ/ Magog: Gogian, of the tribe of Gog. “ወያስተጋብኦሙ ለጎግ ወለማጎግ” And he will gather
Gog and Magog: (ራእ፳: ፰).
ማጣ/ Mat.a: (ዕብ ሚጣ) Bed; A bed, a throne. “እግረ ማጣ” The leg of the bed: (ድጓ። መዋሥ).
